my pup had surgery on the weekend. now can i send in a claim form now for the surgery bill? and then another form for the 6 weekly checkups that are to follow?

or do i have to send in a form for everything all at once at the end of the 6 weeks?

who has claimed, whats your experience. how do i do it?

Best idea would be to contact them and ask, like you would for any insurance company queries as they are best placed to answer your question. They should have customer service contact information listed.

I send my claims in as I pay the bills as you wait forever for payouts anyway it just means the vet has a bit more to do but it can't be helped.

Do you get full refund on the subsequent bills for the follow ups on the same condition, after paying the excess on the first bill? I've never had to claim more than once on any codition, so far....

Same, a few years ago I had to claim and it went over multiple bills. Claimed the first one, then for the subsequent ones just put the claim number on the 2nd, 3rd etc claims - so it was the same issue and therefore claim number.... pet plan paid them each as they received them.

Yes. Full refund after you paid the excess on the first bill as it was the same condition.

With the forms that the vet has to fill in - did you just take a copy with you with you picked her up?

I'm just wondering if you had to make an afterhours vet emergency call and raced in to get your dog looked at, treated and then left again (without having the dog to stay in over night so you wouldn't have to visit again and would probably go to your normal vet) - would you take the forms with you or woud you have to go back so the vet can fill in all the details? I can see that vets would get cranky having to fill in the lengthy PetPlan form every time and after the fact.

I have just swapped over to PetPlan, I was with RACQ before and their forms didn't require a vet to write anything if you had the invoices of what happened during the consult.

Edited to say: I hope your baby girl is ok and her toe is on the mend!

Petplan requires the vets to describe in copious detail the illness/injury plus tick off a whole bunch of yes/no questions and sign the form (as well as you).

If ANYTHING is missed, the form is sent back to you without any sort of processing and the clock restarts on the claim when they receive it back.

Vets these days factor time to fill in the forms. It is common to leave the form with them and colect it the next day or get them to post it to you.

I have taken the form in the next day with all my parts filled in and left it with a stamped adressed envelope which the clinic was happy to send off when the vet was able to fill in the form. When going to the emergency vet the form isn't really in my thoughts of things to take...

I have never had a vet seem at all cranky at filling in the forms, but I haven't had many claims either :)

Same here. I fill in my part of the form carefully, sign and date and then give it to the vet to complete with a stamped address envelope. They have always been happy to send it straight off for me. I've never had a form come back but then again I'm careful to give them EVERYTHING they want. Pet plan have always paid me in reasonable time - no complaints here :)

We are with Petplan and recently had to take our girl to the Pet ER, she was transferred to the specialist directly for surgery the next day. We did have to get two forms signed but it was no problem and even though they were different ABN's for the specialist and the ER we paid one excess as it was part of the same claim,it was processed all together. Like Westiemum I just checked it very carefully and attached any extra information requested such as previous vet etc.

I opted to post it myself but only because I wanted to take a full copy of everything due to Australia Post losing a previous claim despite the fact it was registered - something you might want to consider.

They paid very promptly despite the fact it was over Christmas,we were very happy with the service. I have sent separate invoices for her ongoing care - medication, physio etc and as Goldenwei did I just wrote the claim number on them and they paid. I can only go by my own experience but so far (touching wood here) they seem to pay very quickly once they have the full information.

I always wait around 3 months for a payout no idea what I'm doing wrong

Apparently Petplan had mail stolen/ gone missing over Christmas which has meant a huge backlog of claims which they are still trying to overcome.

My claim with them has taken 7 weeks since I first sent it in and I still don't have any money back.

Part of their process is the claim gets reviewed twice by their experts which means 2 sets of bottlenecks when there are a lot of claims being processed.
