She actually had droopy eyelids and has had her very open eyes checked at every vet visit. With not much wrinkling on her head we thought she would be fine but she started rubbing her eyes in Dec and in Jan had the entropian surgery. I'd say she was only out of sorts for that first day. After that it was like she'd not had a thing done to her. She still has stitches and scabs but is clearly a much happier girl without those hairs rubbing on her eyeballs. No long term damage has been done and it was something that developed as she grew, so don't feel bad for Ruby having developed it or you thinking you hadn't noticed it earlier. She will be much happier after the surgery and will bounce back very quickly if my girl is anything to go by. Fostering pei I have seen the damage done when owners have ignored advice that their dogs need surgery (it was nowhere near as expensive as I expected so I'm not letting money be their excuse). Some dogs have endured years of discomfort and had their vision permanently damaged from neglect. No excuse if you truly love your dog and care for its wellbeing and comfort. Arrange to pay it off if you can't afford that couple of hundred dollars up front. Just saw Kirty's post - we only had the collar of shame on for one day because Tempeh clearly felt more comfortable and didn't bother to try and scratch. She still has little scabs and the stitches can still be there for months dissolving. She did have a funny startled eye look the first night but it settled the day after. Panzer Attack Posted February 14, 2013 Share Posted February 14, 2013 Thanks for the advice PS, fortunately the specialist has given Rudy's eyes the all clear so he doesn't need surgery after all :D Scootie was back at the vet AGAIN today as none of the drugs he has been put on are working - he had his first cartrophen shot today and will be starting pred tomorrow. He's on strict crate rest (again) for the next few days and if he doesn't improve in the next two weeks we will sedate and test for nerve(!!!) damage. The vet was pretty aghast at his condition considering his age but very kindly reassured me and said there was nothing I could have done differently. I feel like shit. Panzer Attack Posted February 17, 2013 Share Posted February 17, 2013 Pred is not making a difference thus far apart from his bloating up like a balloon. He's lost his spark and just lies down all the time, today he tried to run for the first time in over a week and sorta half-assedly trotted for about 2 seconds (in the house). He's hunching more than he has been and the vet said to bring him back AGAIN if he wasn't looking immediately better (he was confident the new drugs would work). I'm DYING. My friends are SOOOO sick of me talking about him and how worried I am. Has anyone else experienced anything similar? It's been six months since his first leg op and he's still in pain. Panzer Attack Posted February 18, 2013 Share Posted February 18, 2013 He's currently admitted at the vet for sedation, a real good look and prod around his legs and back (his other leg definitely needs surgery) and then knocking out for x-rays. He now barely walks at all, has a mild interest in food, no interest in toys (this is scary) and never barks (so unlike him). God I hope they find out what's wrong! The other things we already knew (leg needs operating, back is obviously sore). Yay I'm so glad I have all this spare cash to throw around !
