Does anyone know where I can find handmade dog collars and harnesses. Like the ones I see on Etsy. So many beautiful choices but I would prefer not to have to pay the postage and also avoid the risk of buying overseas.

Nothing wrong with buying from overseas, I've bought a lot from overseas and have never had a problem :D

Also they can get access to a lot of things we can't over here and for a lot less in price which means the end price is also a lot lower.

I bought some harnesses from finland- used paypal. $15 postage and they arrived in less than a week!!!!

That was faster than most places I order from here in sydney!!

I agree with Clover- a few more details and I may have some recommendations.

I've got a few Finnish companies I can recommend if anyone is interested -- they all make lovely, unique things and the quality is impeccable.

If you have a sewing machine, maybe have a go at making them yourself?

Once you've learned where the hardware needs to go (which is easy to figure out, just looks at collars you already have), they're very easy to make and work out costing about $5 each to make.

I'm definitely no Martha Stewart (I can make exactly two things with the sewing machine) but with a bit of practice, I can make one of these collars in about 30 minutes (the plastic hardware could be replaced with metal, these collars are just for tags so don't need to bear much weight).

The bits and pieces for making collars are actually very cheap and easy to get. I also managed to make myself a front-attaching harness by just drawing up a rough design and figuring it out as I went.

Really funky and colourful collars and harnesses made by KANA, I really want one of her collars but can't decide what to get lol. If the webpage doesn't work for you properly here is her FB-page.

An online shop that specialises in custom-made, decorated sighthound collars, Designdog.

Carlo Collection

Wulffi's collection

Ämmä-collars

There's a few. Most of the websites are in Finnish but Google Translate can probably deal with such simple wording and I'm always more than happy to help if anyone needs translations.

edit: I know plenty of people who have gotten collars from the places listed above and not once have I heard a bad word of any of them. :)

You can buy different widths of ribbons-off-a-roll....all sorts of designs and patterns, at Lincraft (or similar shop). You can then make collars like Hardy's Angel's

ps...love the little bow HA

Thanks for the suggestion... Unfortunately I have no sewing talents whatsoever... If anyone I know sees this suggestion they would be laughing... Years back a friend tried to teach me to use a sewing machine... I don't think she's recovered yet...

Try this one, i just ordered one from these guys, it hasn't arrived yet, it's local (Sydney NSW). One of the makers is a member here on DOL, I spent a long time talking to her husband about the quality of leather and components used when I ordered, and am very convinced they are of the highest quality. Very expensive, but in this case you get what you pay for.
