thanks anyway nadia, but my poor girl is on a special diet as she has had some crazy health problems of late... hopefully we can get her on to something that will put a few kilos back on her soon!

Where is this leonards that everyone's talking about anyway?? Is it a human butcher or a pet supply shop?

Is the roo and chicken mix from pet barn labbelled "semi lean mince"??

Lenards is a human chicken products outlet, like a butchers but specialising in chicken.

Their chicken pet mince, is simply offcuts from the making of specialty chicken dishes, and frames etc minced.

So it is from human consumption quality chicken.

It's a human chook shop, a franchise, there's a store locator on the website HERE.

(Okay, I'm feeling like a goody-two-shoes... :D)

Just went to look in the freezer but I only have the chicken mince left. It certainly said chicken and kangaroo on the label cause that's the only way that I knew that that is what it was... if that makes sense! ie I wasn't relying on the lean/premium/semi-lean description. It was from the PetBarn near Chatswood.

I made up a huge pulp mix (filled the entire kitchen sink ---- bluuurrrk) with the kangaroo /chicken mince and all the veges and additives and offal etc - so I'm still feeding it but it's not in the original wrapping. :D I'll have a look next week when I'm in Sydney knobbles.

Hi all,

I used to work in a chicken shop and my job was bagging up the pet mince. Haven't tried it with coco yet, but we never had any complaints. There was one guy that used to come in and buy a few kilo bags for himself...

By the way, slightly off track, i saw a thing on better homes & gardens the other night where there was an underweight dog with dr harry and he recommended a particular bit of meat that you get from the butcher, grill it and scrunch it up, and it acts as an appetite stimulant. Does anyone know what he was talking about?

Cheers

Lozzie

What colour should chicken pet mince be? I just bought some from my local chicken shop and it is really pinky red. They told me it was Maryland pieces and carcases all ground up but I'm not sure I believe them.

I buy my mince from Lenards and it is a nice pinky red colour, it is ground frames and offcuts etc. The colour comes from the frames etc. Lenards do not add preservatives etc.

I find chicken mince good for dogs that need alot of food or that drop weight easy.We fed our danes it and they where perfect weight but our smaller dog kept putting on to much weight. You dont need much and mix it with biscuits. Its how i get my fussy dog to eat biscuits.
