paola Posted November 8, 2006 Share Posted November 8, 2006 Dear members,i have a female greyhound call ellie,she come to live with me last week...today she have some blod in the bed,when i come to check her,she was cleaning her vagina..i call the vet and he sayd that she is in season,something that im not sure y understand....this last sunday she have the registrations papers done,with the cousil for life,plus every single paper..this month she was going to be desex..now,i dont now the precautions to take with ellie!!!...she is 2 year old and ,from today we make her room in the loundry!!!.i like to have some opinions with the members who understand about season...thanks a lot,PAOLA. jbbb Posted November 8, 2006 Share Posted November 8, 2006 Hi Paola, A dogs season means that she is ready to mate with another dog and have puppies. The season will last about 3 weeks, and you need to take precautions during that time. Just keep her away from other dogs - dont let her outside by herself, as dogs can jump very high fences. Keeping her inside is the best thing to do, but remember that she needs to be given attention - you cant just lock her in the laundry by herself the whole time or she will get very lonely. You should also make sure she gets outside for toilet breaks. You can take her outside when she is in season, but just make sure that no other dogs get to her. tramissa Posted November 8, 2006 Share Posted November 8, 2006 (edited) Seasons can be managed. Don't leave her unattended in the back yard, keep her inside the house if you have to go out. This stops her from jumping over fences etc to get to males or males getting in to her. paola Posted November 8, 2006 Author Share Posted November 8, 2006 thanks a lot,the laundry and the garage have doors to conect with the back yard... ,she is more afeccionate now that before..we have a walk everyday to the bus station with my daugther in the morning and at 3pm..she look relax..and tired sometimes...thanks for the good advices..regards paola. New Age Outlaw Posted November 8, 2006 Share Posted November 8, 2006 My girl Cleo is also on at the moment - I usually don't take her out of her yard at all until it is over, because you just never know who you might meet (eg entire dogs) - I'd rather save myself (and her) from any trouble. Is she an ex-racer or from a pet home?? Would be a good idea not to walk her while she's in season though... it will encourage other dogs to visit your place as well as possibly escape to get to her. paola Posted November 8, 2006 Author Share Posted November 8, 2006 thank everyone,i was making ellie walk with me everyday until today..i was scare of the other dogs..ellie its the daugther of :go wild teddy...she is call:go wild mouse in the greyhoud certificate,the lady who was fostering ELLIE,explaing to me that she have a season long time ago...but i was sorprice today with the news...im taking more care of my girl now!! im a dawn sindrome school teacher,and im not working in australia..i have every minute of my day to take care of my son(who star the school next year),and to ellie...my daugther its 7 and come home at 3.30 everyday...ELLIE,was having a walk everyday 2 times,in the morning,and afternoon...i think for the opinion of the member in this forum,i will have ellie only inside the property...and having a walk in the back yard....SHE LIVE INSIDE THE HOUSE WITH US!!!!....she is a good girl,and just love my kids..thanks for everything...regards paola. Paola, her season will last about 3 weeks, and it's actually when the blood disappears that she will be ovulating, so keep doing what you're doing for the next three weeks or so. The vet will charge more because it is a much more difficult and dangerous operation. Much better to wait, unless you know that a male has already got to her. Sammy, we desex all of our greyhounds at GAP, and responsible rescue organisations always desex, but it is not clear who Paola bought her dog from. She may not have bought it from the breeder, and a lot of people that rehome their ex-racers do not get them desexed. Paola, I hope you didn't pay any money for an undesexed ex-racing greyhound. That is quite typical that a greyhound bitch will come into season as soon as she is moved to a new home. It is always a priority with us to get our bitches desexed as soon as we possibly can after they arrive to avoid this happenning. Even if a male dog has mated with her, she can be desexed a week or 2 after she has finished her season - that is, when the bleeding has stopped. However, it is better not to let a male dog near her, and if you have secure fences which will not allow her to escape, and you watch her when she is in the backyard, she should be safe. paola Posted November 8, 2006 Author Share Posted November 8, 2006 thanks everyone...she come here un-desex because she will be...,i call the foster mum yesterday night,she sayd that ellie have the last season like 6 month ago.. my fence its very secure,aluminium arrownd the house(2 metres tall) she is an inside pet-dog we are having extra care at his times the foster care mum was very sorprice yesterday with the news,(we are always in touch) my vet its going to have a complete check on ellie after the blood stop she is eatin well.. and she sleep in my daughters room the foster mummy come to have an inspeccion in my house GREYMATE:i paid already a little more for the registration because she was not desex.. and she is not going to be desex,until the season finish. thanks a lot for your reply. the agreement sayd,that she will be desex the soon its posible.. the foster care dont askme for anything..and she drive 1hour,45 minutes to come to see me.(a wonderful care lady) I realy apretiate everything from you member...i love this forum,and im very happy to make good friends here.. any q??...very welcome!!! regards paola. Most Vets would prefer not to as there is a huge amount of blood flow to the area during a season. There is no point putting the dog under for a risky surgery when Paola sounds quite responsible.
