MellG Posted February 25, 2007 Share Posted February 25, 2007 Hi Guys I have a 10 month old dog, who is limping from the shoulder and has been for over a month, I have spent a fortune on X-rays, joint taps and the like, with 2 different specialists from the Sydney Uni vet Hospital, only to be told everything is normal, This weekend he had his third Bowen session, so I have my fingers crossed, we also regularly vist Peter Schofield. He is currently on 1 month course of Sylvet capsules a "hope and see if makes a difference" guess by the specialist. I am also feeding joint food, salmon oil, increased vitamin C and colloidal mineral silica all hoping to make a difference...as well as crying regularly through sheer desperation that nothing seems to be working. Some days he seems to be improving, however today he seems right back at square 1 (I am hoping this is just a temporary response to his bowen session yesterday) I have seen mention here of a natural Anti - inflam Traumeel, where can I buy this from? or do I need to order it over the net? I just feel so lost, the next test I am told is an arthroscopy although both specialists are doubtfull it will show anything as all other test results are showing the the joint is healthy, and that it is most likely muscular, I just can't seem to get it to heal. The limp has not worsened since it started, and often seems to be better, but its never 100% and we are now sitting at the 8 week mark. I don't know what to do...I am so depressed about it all, and at a lost as to what to do to get my little man healthy again, If anyone knows where I can buy Traumeel from I would really appreciate it, I am willing to try anything rather than have invasive surgery that seems pointless. MellG Posted February 25, 2007 Author Share Posted February 25, 2007 Yes it is a human treatment, but I have read previous threads where DOL'ers have used it with success on their dogs, everywhere I have asked don't stock it, so I am hoping some one here may be able to let me know where they got it from. I would also recommend accupuncture treatment - it has been very successful for Silver's arthritis combined with a similar supplement routine as you are using. I'm sure this is a silly question, but how do they cope with puppies who get over excited and jump and wiggle all over the place when at the vets? Final diagnosis was tight trigger points. There is Gladesville Animal Hospital and you could see either Pam Short or Mark Hocking(who does more with trigger points) or Amanda Paul at North Turramurra. This is where I got my Traumeel. It's quite diffuclt to get. I know how you feel though as the girl I had used it on with great success for some time now appears to need something stronger. Still is saved me from having her on metacam or similar for the last 3 years ao I am grateful for that. If we now have to go down that track so be it. Hope you can get your boy sorted out soon. Also, I don't know it this is appropriate for your problem but i have just recently - about 10 days ago started using a magnetic collar and that has been very useful for my girl. I know of young dogs who were lame because they drank bore water (heavily laiden with minerals) and ate a premium dog food (also laiden with minerals). Put the dog onto a lighter food (I think a basic adult one, or a senior one) and the lameness dissapeared. I can't think of the proper name for the problem, but this has been ruled out? Anissa Posted February 26, 2007 Share Posted February 26, 2007 Hi Mell, I personally don´t think that Traumeel is very usefull. It is actually a mix of some common homoeophathic remedies. But since the basic principle of a homoeopathic treatment is the individualisation and the very personal treatment of every dog or human a (so called) complex remedy is usually not the best choice. It is like using a lead shot gun for killing a fly: maybe one lead shot will kill it but what about all the others??? It is a common mistake that homoeopathic remedies cannot do any harm! Actually they CAN!!! I would suggest to go to a classical working (animal) homoeopath for the treatment. You can get very good results with homoeopathy. (One of my own patients in Germany (a 6 year old Samojede) has hip dysplasia and arthrosis and doesn´t need any pain killers after beeing treated with homoeopathic remedies.) MellG Posted February 26, 2007 Author Share Posted February 26, 2007 Hi Lowenhart, Panosteitis is the technical name for growing pains, this was their original thought, pano generally affects the long bones in the legs, and can be diagnosed often via xrays. Our xrays are clear, however he does have pain in the shoulder when having full manipulation under light sedation. he has had the joint tap to take fluid from the shoulder joint and that has come back clear and free of inflamation, thus we have been told its "probably a muscular problem and it will get better with time" I agee with you Anissa the Homeopathic treatments so far have not really helped, but I am willing to try anything. I can see alot of health benefits since he started Bowen therapy, in regards to his coat, general appearence etc, the limp however is still hanging around. Its just so frustrating. MellG Posted March 4, 2007 Author Share Posted March 4, 2007 Hi, we went and saw Mark at Gladesville Vet Hospital, and what do you know, 4 trigger points in his shoulder, painfull enough that for the first time in all the different tests etc, He actually showed a pain response to the point of wanting to bite at Mark when he pressed on those area's. I was amazed. So we will be having weekly sessions (probably 4 in totall) Plus I have stretching exercises, massage and heat therapy to do at home, finally I feel like there is light at the end of the tunnel.
