  1. glad he's ok,I recently had a similar one but it was my boxer pushing our staffie thru the lower glass panel, she then jumped back out cutting her ankle including artery,(we pressure bandaged this before going to the vet) and the base of her tail, the biggest problem was keeping her quiet and the bandages intact, both cuts were in high movement areas and required repeated bandaging, the tail actually took longer to heal.I had safety glass installed and will be putting removable security panels aroud the back yard area,Ive had 3 broken windows in 26 yrs, 2 from the dogs and 1 from the cat, which is another story Ah jeeze Mac'ella, your poor Staffy
  2. Know they sell stick on privacy film at hardware stores, will be putting it on the 2 bottom rows of glass so he can't see out, until such time as the glass can be replaced with laminated glass. I'm assuming if he can't see out the incentive to doosh the glass will stop [he has done it on numerous occasions with no drama...this morning was just bad luck with his mighty kung fu doosh].
  3. Thank you all for the well wishes as well throughout the day, it really helped me a lot
  4. The boy is now home, got a pic as he walked around but he's now settled on his bed fast asleep :D The vets and nurses were so impressed with him - they said he was the quietest Boxer they've ever seen. Vet also said he was a very lucky dog in that he just missed major arteries as wouldn't be here otherwise as he probably would've bled to death on the way to the vet Scary thought. Just glad he's home and well and safe.
  5. Update Update Can go pick him up, all went really well and he's fine . Oh am in near tears as have been on tenderhooks all day worrying on the inside. Just want my lil Squirt back home :D
  6. Also news on Koda SA Police News Police Dog Koda is now in a stable condition after being stabbed twice this morning at Elizabeth Vale. He is pictured here recovering after surgery. Thanks everyone for your concern and best wishes. A man has been arrested and charged with numerous offences following several incidents at Elizabeth Vale this morning where a police dog was stabbed. From about 7.30am this morning, Elizabeth Police were searching for a man allegedly armed with a knife who had tried to steal a car at Elizabeth South. A short later the same man allegedly broke into several homes at nearby Hogarth Road Elizabeth Vale. Police patrols with assistance of a police dog patrol located the armed man and he was pursued on foot over fences and through a nearby reserve. At the intersection of John Rice Avenue and Philip Highway police dog Koda was released by his handler to stop the armed man. Koda detained the suspect, who then allegedly stabbed the dog on two occasions. The armed man was then quickly restrained and arrested by police patrols. Police dog Koda a German Shepherd, was rushed to a nearby Vet by his handler and has since undergone emergency surgery and is now in a stable condition. The 30 year-old man from no fixed place, has been charged with attempt aggravated robbery, four counts of theft, aggravated serious criminal trespass after he broke into two homes, aggravated assault police, property damage and injure animal. The arrested man has been refused police bail and will appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court tomorrow
  7. An update - apparently Scout is ok and in recovery. Vet nurse wasn't sure if he was to be able to come home or not tonight as they may want to keep him in overnight. Waiting to hear back as the vet was in a consultation at the time.
  8. Ah good news on Koda SA Police News Hi everyone, Koda the Police Dog here. My friends at the Media Section have let me log on here to give you an update on how I’m feeling. I’m a bit sore, but am starting to feel better. My handler and the rest of my collies……oops, I mean colleagues (it’s hard typing with paws!) at the Dog Operations Unit will be looking after me over the next couple of weeks, and I’m sure I’ll be back on patrol soon. Thanks for all your messages of support, it has brought a wag to my tail! Anyway, I can hear my dog bed calling me, so I had better go and get some rest. Woof at you soon, Koda! Hoping to hear some good news for Scout - feeling somewhat anxious now [think it finally kicked in after the numbness of shock wore off]
  9. No the one at Golden Grove vets4pets
  10. Koda is in recovery now - they can prolly work on Scout now [haven't heard anything yet, but they said to ring back around 6pm]
  11. The red ring is the window pane that was dooshed.
  12. Ah thank you, didn't know about the difference. Laminated makes much more sense
  13. I want to replace it with safety glass or something and also cover all the 6 lower panels so they can't been seen out of to stop future dooshing. Just glad it was a small window and he didn't cut his neck or chest open
  14. Ah no it is police dog Koda who has been in the headlines a lot of late catching many criminals - news so far isn't good from what I'm reading. ETA: latest news is he's in recovery now
  15. Oh and now it's been made public, when we arrived at the vet there were dog police vans and police there, poor police dog had been stabbed in the chest and was in critical condition. SA Police News A police dog has been stabbed and a man has been arrested following a disturbance at Elizabeth Vale a short time ago. Elizabeth Police with the aid of police dog patrol were attempting to arrest a man armed with a knife at the intersection of John Rice Avenue and Philip Highway, when the armed suspect stabbed the police dog in the chest. The man has since been arrested and has been restrained. He has been taken to the Elizabeth Police Station to be interviewed. The police dog has been rushed to a vet for treatment with the injury considered life threatening. I went up to them and said that I hoped their dog would be ok and thanked them for all the work they do. They looked so upset
  16. Not a good morning Scout dooshed the front door window and shattered it [it was a small pane] but lacerated both front legs. Straight off to the 24 hour emergency vet which gladly was only 15 mins away. They applied pressure bandages, had a quick look at the damage. He's got a deep cut on the right upper front leg and the left lower leg was worse with ligament damage. Had to leave him there and they will do surgery on him [glad he hadn't had his breakfast]. Estimated bill of $1300 which in all things considered isn't that bad considering it's Sunday morning. Just hoping he'll be ok...am not in panic mode yet. But am worried with him going under anesthetic being a brachy breed and older [he's 7 now]. But his colour was good and heart rate, breathing was good, he'd lost a fair bit of blood [he was attempting his inner Pro Hart on the tiles]. /sigh but am glad he got to the vet quick and also thankful for DOL as I remember reading years ago on here about memorizing your nearest vet and also emergency vet in case of accidents. Which came in handy this morning :) I had morning brain fuzz but remembered what I needed to.
  17. Get quite a few koalas, kangaroos and echidnas hanging around the house here at night [right on the back lawn where the dog hangs out]. Dog does get excited over them, but knows when I say leave it he does - have to take him inside until what ever has decided to hang around moves on. But having said that all the animals are inside at night, always been that way, just loo breaks at night which are supervised. Didn't like the angle the article went in though, demonising dogs yet again
  18. Check my dog's nails every fortnight, usually they need a trim. So glad his dews were removed when he was born. Still use the nail trimmers as he's not as demonic any more, do have a dremmel but meh it's a corded one and can't always be bothered setting it up with an extension cord to go outside lol. But as soon as he sees the nail trimmers in my hand he gives me 'the look'
  19. Lynnette Kingfisher, hmmm not sure on this one
  20. Using VIP Grain Free Wild Game dry and VIP Grain Free Roast Meat roll for a few months now. Two small meals of the roll a day and dry food as he wants. Haven't had any problems with itchy skin since he's been on grain free and he eats all his food with gusto. Also he's producing lovely barker's eggs again which make clean ups a breeze =D
  21. Years ago when I was a young teen I used to love having guinea pigs as pets as I didn't have a dog back then. There was a wire haired fox terrier that was forever getting out and coming down to the house, I used to walk him back home all the time. One time the back gates were open the dog came in and killed the gin pigs [broke open the wire mesh on the cage and scared them to death, they didn't look munged on], the dog was just hanging around wagging his wik like he'd done good I was very sad, but didn't blame the dog...it was doing it's doggy terrier thing - just took him back home and told the owners what happened, didn't see the dog out ever again after that.
  22. Oh dear, MA comes across as being the King of Confabulation
  23. Reading the article it came across as the laws aren't new and have been in place since 1939 with amendments in 1995 and that MA had no idea whatsoever [with the rehashing of what he said]. Well that's how I read it :)
  24. They're pretty much one eyed supporters. doesn't matter how much logic or reason is brought into the equation. They start of believing and continue to do so, to the point of just accepting and defending what they believe in.
  25. Ah no, already been seeing 'but it was a puppy farm, not a shelter - there is a big difference. Moorook doesn't breed dogs!' kind of responses.
