  1. Saw this via facebook in the news... Elderly Sydney dog walker bashed Sorry if this has already been posted, had a look and couldn't see
  2. Poor Orange I do so hope they catch those involved and Orange get some justice.
  3. Friends moved to Melbourne, bought a Rotty pup and he got parvo from the backyard they did manage to save him but was a lot for the pup to go through
  4. If it's any consolation I got the 'devil' of the litter  Yes he was a little monster as a pup, but with training and setting boundaries from day dot, I didn't have too much trouble with him. He matured into a placid, well behaved boy - now nearing on 7 he's a lovely older boof, who still has his moments of 'devilment' and I wouldn't have it any other way :D
  5. lol the koalas in mating season make for sore ears...loud grunts from the males and screaming from the females
  6. If you open the video [by clicking the link to open in a window] you'll see the share link which will put it on your timeline
  7. It's something I don't quite understand....destroying habitat helps koalas??!! Have a very healthy koala population here, heck they hang around the house. There are dogs all over the place around here as well /shrug. Notice they just scamper up the nearest tree if the dog is outside when they're near and wait til the coast is clear, then go on their way.
  8. maybe a case of an increasing throw away society /shrug
  9. Thankfully ol Scout doesn't care for the roos that hang around the house anymore. Currently have Mumroo with a little Chitlin in the pouch :D The only thing he barks at is the foxes who steal his outside toys  Great photo though Pers EFS
  10. always have DOL open in an app tab [Firefox], so it always loads up as soon as my browser is opened. Sometimes days pass as I keep forgetting to refresh But generally try to have a quick read of things [remember more so if I get an email reminder about a thread I'm following or the like].
  11. When I used to go to training, I met some people [neighbours] who co-owned a Stafford. They shared him on a week by week basis, he was a happy well adjusted dog who behaved with both sets of owners. They shared 50/50 the costs in looking after him and if one set of owners had to go away [holidays or what have you], there was always a place for him to stay and be looked after.
  12. just saw the promo for it and was about to post
  13. Tye and Scout used to hump each other [both desexed boys]. Could always verbally tell them to stop by saying 'no humping'. They'd always give the look of 'awwww kill joy'. They never humped any other dog but each other, nor did they hump legs of people or other inanimate objects. Since Tye passed away, Scout has never humped anything else. I just think they had a thing for each other and Scout lost his hump buddy
  14. 1) What was the reason why you stopped training your dog? To be honest I attended to socialize Scout as a youngin and to gain his training certificate for cheaper yearly registration [basically pass grade 2]. So once he got his certificate I felt he was adequately trained for being a pet [doesn't pull my arm out the socket when on walks and behaves nicely in public]. Scout started training at 18 weeks old and finished up when he was near 2 years old. 2) Do you feel your dog is well trained enough? For general pet life, yes 3) Did you not get results from previous training attempts? Yes I did, Scout learnt to heel beautifully and pay attention to me. If I stop he automatically sits and waits for me to move on again. 4) Is training too far away/ too often/ too expensive? The training I attended isn't too far away, it's within my Council zone and is run by the Council/volunteers once a week. Was only about $25 a year if living within the Council zone. 5) Are you simply too busy? Yes and no, depends on the week. 6) Did you find training boring? No, I always enjoyed training nights. 7) What would prompt you to start training again or would you not start training again regardless? If I get another pup later on he will attend training until he gains his certificate =]
  15. Scout... around 5 weeks 9 weeks 5 months 1 year 6 years
  16. lol rabbit pez dispenser
  17. Scout loves my horse's and goat's poo, he even loves freshly dropped roo poo [which is in abundance around the house with the local mob of roos hanging around]. His favourite game is horse pom pom poo, if he's lucky to find two bits of horse poo with some horse hair binding the two together....holds one end and swings it around  EFS
  18. Scout chases his tail, more so on cue now a days. 'Get your Wik' is his cue to do it. His natural play with tail chasing was how he learnt to spin on command. It's not something he does all the time, only when he's in the mood for it [in wally mode]. But yes he was actively encouraged to do it [and voted so]. It's never been a problem with him, nor become an obsessive behaviour.
  19. Did have trouble with a prowler months ago...was at night [nothing taken,] but Scout [a Boxer] could smell them from inside...woke up from a dead sleep smelling at the door, then barking madly. When I let him out, he had his nose to the ground tracking a bit and could see where they'd been. Found the gate thing blocking off the back of the shed and whatknot wide open. Guessing Scout disturbed and whomever it was hightailed before he actually got outside. He has a very deep loud bark =] Do feel much safer with a dog around that will be alert to anything that is amiss I have to admit.
  20. My old Husky who I'd adopted at 7 months old was named Blizzard, changed it to Tasha with no troubles [just did the name association with everything she did and she picked it up in a fortnight].
  21. Well actually, nearly lost one of my Huskies to a cat. Big old roaming Tom cat attacked one of my dogs and he got rather sick had to have vet treatment to pull him through. Thinking he got a severe infection that went into his bloodstream. The old Tom came into the backyard and pounced on my dog, they tumbled around and eventually off an embankment, the cat was firmly holding on with teeth and claws /sigh. Never knew who he belonged to, but he was the resident meany picking on anything that moved. I sort of laugh about it now after nearly 20 years...but at the time I was so angry.
