Hey Ness, Didn't have any trouble with left turns. I've felt like he lags a bit so I have been working on getting him up more.
-
I think the video clip is a little too extreme for me. The doggie must get a sore neck! I like them to look a little more natural than that. I did get told off for Brock being too far forward on the weekend, which has me a little stressed. He was in the shoulder/leg position. I was walking a little bit strangely due to breaking my tailbone the weekend before. I don't want to go in a trial and get told he is forging the whole time. Anyone doing the shoulder/leg position been told off in a trial? I don't ask for heeling at all when out on a walk. But I don't go anywhere that it is needed.
-
Were do you like your dog to be heeling? Nose level with your side or shoulder level with your side. What do you think the benefits are? Have you evr got pinged in a trial for forging or lagging because of your preferred postition?? And why is the rule so vague???

Yeah well done Leopuppy & Leo!! And everyone else too!

Was Berwick on today?? Who went and how did you go??

Dr Bruce's Vets All Natural Complete Mix
JulesP replied to helen's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I've used Phuds from Browns herbal which is a similar product. Not sure how the pricing compares. My dogs both liked it. My fatty girl did get fatter on it. You don't need to soak it overnight, you add boiling water and wait about 5/ 10 mins. -

It is so cute when they say hi to each other, isn't it? I nearly stayed at home today because Brock was doing the big sad eye thing! -

Yes I feel guilty when I take Brock out and leave Fern at home. She does have the cats though and likes to sit with the horses too. She looks pretty damn sad! But neither dog carries on if I have to take the other away. I haven't trained for this as I don't have an issue with either of them getting upset. You think Brock is quiet you should see Fern!!! Fluffy - non argumentative! -

Gawd LP I like being fluffy on this forum.... If someone has an only dog and goes to work then yes I think that they are doing the wrong thing by the dog. I have no problem with people saying that they keep the dogs seperate if it is for the dog's benefit. But it seems that people are doing it for their own ambitions - to get a better competition dog. I don't like that. Doesn't mean I am going to dob you into the RSPCA, the world is made up or lots of different people and I no longer care if people agree with me or not I do believe that dogs, no matter how long they have been domesticated, are still wild animals. They certainly revert to feral behaviour quickly enough when dumped. A litter of pups born wild are going to take a lot of handling to tame. No pack/herd animal likes being alone. Humans included!! -

K9 none of my comments have been about your neutralisation training. -

JulesP replied to whatevah's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Mainly because they are pack animals. I don't think feelings come into it. Dogs are not supposed to be solitary animals. Look at all the behavioural problems that are caused by dogs being left alone. As for being left outside and the rest of your pack being inside that must be rather painful for a dog. They don't know why you are doing it, they would just see it as being turned out from the pack. Which in the wild could mean death. Sounds dramatic I know, but you asked! -
Keep New Pup Together With Other Dogs Or Apart?
JulesP replied to whatevah's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
You were talking about keeping them seperated during the day/night though. Not about when training. I wouldn't have one in the house and one outside. Think that is a bit mean on the dog left outside. -

JulesP replied to whatevah's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Well obviously I train my dogs and I have said that I wouldn't keep them seperated. They don't carry on if I take one off without the other. But the cats are part of the pack and usually hang around with the dogs too. I would never have a single dog either. -

If she has told him off I don't tell him off as well. Sometimes I tell her to tell him off instead of me doing it! She likes to think she has a job! -

You should see my old dog K9, she is a classic! She does tend to tell pup off for things that I have told him off for, like chewing the hose and being too rowdy with visitors. Then it is just things like not jumping fences. I have farm height fences and they could easily jump out but it just doesn't seem to occur to them to do it. And staying on their beds when in the house. Pup sees older dog is happy to stay on bed so pup stays put too. I haven't had two young dogs at the same time yet though. So I imagine that would be different. -

JulesP replied to whatevah's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I've always kept the dogs together. Part of the reason I have 2 dogs is for the dog's sake so it would defeat that purpose to not let them be together. Their wellbeing comes before any competition aims I might have and I believe they are happier together. I have never had issues with injuries but none of them have been very rowdy. I have also not had any problems with them wanting to be with the other dog rather than with me. They have all been very focused on me, maybe that is a breed thing. When out they pretty much stay with me even when off lead. When at home they are always watching to see where I am. I don't let them socialise much at dog school as I don't want them to think of that as a place to play and do their own thing. So maybe I have neutralised them without realising it. -
Have Judges Become Too Pedantic?
JulesP replied to Tapferhund's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Yes you should approach the VCA rep on the day if you think that the judge has done something outside of the rules. Takes a bit of bravery to do this I know. -
I suffered badly from nerves in the ring too. I just had my dog working 110% so that when she dropped points due to being worried about what the hell was wrong with Mummy she still got good scores.

Joint Guard is a doggie product. It costs a fair bit more than the human version.
-
A thing to keep in mind too is all the doggies that live to a ripe old age and only ever got fed Pal!!!
-
Nature's Gift say that they only use human grade meat on their website. There is a bit of grain in it though - rice & wheat. No corn. Quite high protein levels though 26% for 100g.

Soft Dogs And Distraction Training
JulesP replied to JulesP's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Yep at Croydon but would like to join Berwick as Saturdays work better for me, horse stuff is usually on Sundays! The clubs are the same distance but Berwick feels like much further away as I have to go over the Dandies to get there!
