It was the first trial that I have just watched at. Usually I have been sitting somewhere trying not to vomit! I watched some of the UD stuff and that was amazing. I don't know how I am going to train Brock to that standard. All that scent work - omg!

Good luck everyone!

Yeah I tend to just use 'heel' if that is what I am after. If I am just going for a walk I don't use any command (about from stop pulling). If I am walking through a crowd then I ask for 'heel'. I didn't like the loose lead walking stuff we did at club as I felt it was confusing to then teach heeling after letting the dogs wander around. We were doing heeling patterns but on a loose lead btw, not just strolling along. So I did heeling from the beginning.

As the title says who is going to be competing/watching at Croydon this weekend??? I am rather peeved that we don't have training because of it! Have you been practising Shoey?? :p

Oh Leopuppy please do. I was going to suggest it but don't think I am very popular at the moment (because I dropped out of trainers class). I tried to find a 'trialing' club but all the local ones are really focusing on pet stuff now. And it seems to be very much focused on people that have never owned dogs before. Am about to have another fight about tricks! lol

Who Wants To Pick On Leopuppy!
JulesP replied to leopuppy04's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I did buy my house for my furry friends! When I got divorced I couldn't bare for them to leave the house and move to a normal block so I am now in debt up to my eyeballs!! -
How Did You Get Into Dog Sports
JulesP replied to leopuppy04's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
When I got my own dog after leaving home I got a border collie, Mum had always taken the family dogs to dog school (Croydon LP, so I am second generation :D ), so I just naturally did as well. I dabled a bit with trialling with Moss but he wasn't that in to it. When I got the second dog I was a bit more serious about it with her. I guess I just thought that having a working dog breed that I needed to give them a job. I guess in a way the dogs were purchased to do obedience as the last 2 I checked how many dogs in their lines had CDs etc. But they are pets first and I wouldn't sell them on if they don't work out. I have recently got a bit of a bee in my bonnet about showing! If I pursue that then another doggie will have to be purchased! I never really thought about doing herding but am a bit intrigued about it now so will go to a training day. Prior to, well at the same time, I show ponies! 2 very full on hobbies is making life a bit tricky so I am considering options at the moment. -

Thanks I was very proud of my little beastie today. I really didn't think that he would work for me in the beginning but now we are enjoying it. He really is a lovely little critter to have around! -

Looking good Leopuppy. I picked up the same thing as Dogdude (which he told me off about last weekend, lol) and I would maybe like to see you shorten your stride a bit before turns etc. It just looks a bit smoother, but it might be the video! -

I don't think I am going to be able to get there in time. If I don't - have fun! -
Barfers - What Mince Do You Feed?
JulesP replied to Sayreovi's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I use mince from the supermarket, human grade. I don't use pet mince as it often has lots of preservatives in it. You use very little mince in BARF though as meaty bones are better. P.S. I actually wrote 'human mince' at first -

I didn't think that Roxy barked that much or was feral! I thought all the doggies were very well behaved. -

Well Ed's was pretty fast, just not in the right direction ;) Dogdude if you are happy to go back to stays on lead could you then do them with your class? -

I wonder if he is doing it because he thinks he can get away with it because you feel less able to correct him in case you disrupt the other dogs? Going back to doing stays on the lead might be good for him anyhow. The correction time is too long if you are a couple of meters away, the dog has already had its win by the time you get back. I usually go right back if I encounter a problem. It is much easier to give advice on here then in person ;) -

Yeah we should round up heaps of border collies for Oscar. I can bring my old one next time and put her on the other side. -

I was thinking about one of those on a bit of string. He does like playing with little furry critters. Is very gentle with them, just puts them in the middle of the garden and then herds them up. Don't think the critters like it, I have to keep going and rescueing them! -

Shame you didn't make it WMR but glad to hear your son is ok. It was great to meet everyone, gave me lots to think about. I tried a couple of different toys when I got home to try and hype Brock up - he was scared of most of them! What a sook. Reckon I could use the cat but don't think the cat would like it much! -
Possibley. I looked after a friend's dog who is very shy and it took a couple of days before I could pat her. I would probably prefer that people that were looking after the dogs weren't trying to give them commands etc. It is too easy to stuff your training up.
-
My thoughts are that you either have to work with your Mum so that Kinta does obey her or your Mum needs to stop giving Kinta commands! My girl border is totally mine, is happy to say hi to other people but not too happy to work for them. Brock is very much a mummy's boy. He will work with other people but I have no worries of him doing a runner when off lead as he sticks to me like glue.

BC Lover this is why I stopped grooming. I think I would have punched someone if I had continued. The thing that used to scare me is that these were the dogs that people were prepared to get groomed, what about the ones that didn't even get that.
