  1. I have already spelt out why her sage advice slipped past the electrical fencing in my mind. And, at the risk of having to spell it out yet again, this thread, nice or not, was started to get advice and experiences. By the way, what did you have for dinner tonight?
  2. Pardon me, Greymate, your Wreckit is showing. :) :)
  3. That part of her post was lost to me because of her talk about trapping. :) And she is one of those posters I don't pay a great deal of attention to because of her aggressive manner. I had to google to find what POCTA stood for. Thank you Trish.
  4. Yes, Sheena, they don't worry me because I have been on DOL for a long time and I know the way they work, but my blood boils for those who come here seeking assistance and they are treated very poorly. There are several DOLers whose posts I generally never read because they aren't not posting to be helpful, they are posting to try to annoy the OP, others, and/or to show off what they think is their superior knowledge. It is pretty sad really, and mostly I just feel sorry for them; in my opinion, they are not even worth the extra 30 seconds it takes to click on the Ignore function. :)
  5. I've just remembered: SASH, the Small Animal Specialist Hospital at North Ryde laid artificial turf as a place for them to take the hospitalised dogs for walks, wees and poos. The stench is absolutely unbelievable and how anyone could have authorised this is beyond my comprehension. Naturally is is cleaned and hosed down, but apart from its total unsuitability for such a high dog use, I would have thought it would be a huge breeding ground for infections and disease. The last time I went there, I had to absolutely steel myself to walk past it.
  6. No, I didn't know that Trish, and that is exactly why I started this thread: to get people's advice and experience. Wreckit just loves living up to her name and all that was needed was a calm explanation as you have given, not snide and nasty. And, yes, I do realise that, at the end of all my queries, I may just have to live with the situation as it is. And that is absolutely fine and I will have to make adjustments to ensure that Gussy gets enough food. I don't understand and never will that people come to DOL to ask questions and a certain few, we all know who they are, always try to make out that the person asking the questions is stupid and ignorant. Well I'm here to tell you that I am not stupid, but yes, I am ignorant of very many things and the way to become "unignorant" is to ask questions. The only result posters of Wreckit''s ilk achieve is to make themselves appear nasty, impatient and ill mannered. And they worry me not a scrap.
  7. Just get the names of rescue groups from the PetRescue website.
  8. If a dog is up for adoption, ie stayed the required time for that particular pound from time of impoundment, that is what happens. What does EIO stand for?
  9. I hope so!!!! Makes me sad thinking of him nearly drowning. I don't think a doggie just brought back to life would have such beautifully pink tongue and gums. LOL
  10. Somerset Regional Council's internet will be going into meltdown with people pointing out the anomolies in this story
  11. Yes, I was interested in that too and was thinking of places to put it to deter Tippy, but inside my yard so would not be a problem for people walking by or visiting. Anyway, you can turn these things off, can't you?
  12. That looks really lovely - great house too. (Quite off topic, but the photographer should be up for false advertising as it makes some of the rooms look huge, but the layout diagram says otherwise ) The best mulch I have found is Eucy mulch. The eucalyptus smell is lovely when first laid, but naturally, that seeps out of it after a while when exposed to sun and rain. Weeds do come through, but they are very easily picked out. Much easier than digging out of lawn and gardens which aren't mulched. I love the look of gravel paths (despite problems outlined in another topic ) and raking is a lovely relaxing pasttime. Very zen :D :D
  13. I agree. The dog isn't bloated and if you look just behind and to the right, there are stakes around a bush. I reckon he is in his own yard and has been having lots of fun in the mud.
  14. Hence this thread about electric fences. Electric fences are not an option, unless you want the RSPCA on your door step Hence this thread about electric fences.
  15. Makes me sick to think of it. They had rolls and rolls of it when I was at Bunnings today. Should be outlawed - LOL. Sorry KHM :).
  16. This seems to be the most likely candidate at this stage.
  17. She did when she was younger. This is the neighbour's cat and post #4 will give you some idea why I won't be talking to them or the Council about him. http://www.dolforums.com.au/topic/246439-can-you-see-what-i-see/
  18. 1. Yes, I am aware of the roller tops for high walls and fences. 2. As T. says - such a system would not work in my place. 3. Considering most of the neighbourhood has seen me in the past walking the block with my cat following along behind, I have no right to nor intention of reporting any wandering cat to the Council. 4. Since becoming a venerable old lady, Gussy cat rarely leaves the front yard although she did join me on the footpath this evening while I was weeding. :D 5. Yes, I am well aware of the danger to our wildlife and believe that any new kitten should be brought up inside. Unfortunately, hell will freeze over and our wildlife will probably have disappeared by the time that happens. 6. That is not to say that change should not be attempted and legislated for. Microchipping was legislated in 1999. Nearly 14 years later, does anyone know the percentage of dogs and cats who end up in pounds are microchipped.
  19. Thanks for that. I have discussed this in the Cat Forum, tried all sorts of different foods and strategies, hence now considering what appears to be the final option and that is how to keep Tippy out while maintaining good relations with neighbours and not harming any one or anything. :) :)
  20. Please practice tolerance by noting that this thread was started for the purpose of asking people's advice and experience. :)
  21. Aussie3, this thread is not about ranting, rather one for reasoned and polite advice. If you want to rant, do so by all means, but not here. Thank you .
  22. I have an indulgent chuckle at this  Lil Moonbeam is gorgeous, Jules, so striking and 'tis wonderful that she is giving you such joy.
