There is a constant stream of people coming to the internet and social media for the first time. Not everyone sees something over and over again and stills falls for it. The educative process (in anything) is an ongoing process. :) :)

Hey Ziggy You are going to get such a good present soon. :) :)

I have read only one post and that is Sheridan's. Thanks for the laugh. Straight from the shoulder as always This topic has been so done to death that I am surprised there are any responses.

7 X 1 Day Old Gsd Puppies Need A Mum
Loving my Oldies replied to Tazar's topic in General Dog Discussion
They are lovely Kanati. I hope you feel as proud as you should: of yourself and your Whippy Mum. I reckon that girl is going to be a real stunner, she is already looking impressive. I imagine there will be heaps of tears on both sides when they go back to their human mum. She must be missing her girl so much. -
Pretty low. But good that you followed it through and your usual groomer was able to warn the other. So many tricksters out there. I answered the door the other day and the chap said he was from Energy Australia and could he look at my latest bill to ensure I'd received my $3 rebate. I thought: Huh? I'm not with Energy Australia LOL. I'm sorry I didn't get his name and report him and Energy Australia.

I sure as hell wouldn't be testing the the wagginess of their tails - LOL. I worry that dogs so close to fences are targets for baits

Unless there is some medical reason and I don't really know any (others might) you never take your dog's water away. My dogs sleep as long as I do. For instance, I slept until 11.30am this morning as I had an insomniac experience and didn't get to sleep until after 4am. Not a peep out of the dogs ---- 5 of them. Sounds like he wants to minimise the chances of having to get up and take his dog out for a wee in the middle of the night, but I'd never take the water away from my guys. If they need water, they need water! If they need to pee, they need to pee. Welcome to the life of dog ownership Yes, I understand that, minimax. But as you say: if a dog needs to drink, it needs to drink and water should be always available. How long does puppyhood in terms of having to take a dog out, last. Too bad - a puppy's needs have to be met. Yeh that's my point. I was agreeing with you.

Three Years Ago Now Kuga, A Very Special Old Man
Loving my Oldies replied to hortfurball's topic in Rainbow Bridge
Two years! I so remember this lovely old man. It certainly takes a while for the smiles to come instead of the tears. Thank god they do, otherwise it would all be too hard. -
How do you pay proper tribute to another person's loss and grief? How do you express your admiration and amazement at another person's ability to express, in words and deed, love and generosity and care for other people? I can only try. I have known Rachel for many years and yet have never met her in person. We've come close, but never actually made it. There have been many emails and phone calls and, from Rachel's side, beautiful and thoughtful gifts, delicious batches of home made treats for my dogs, and, most treasured of all, a wonderful poem when my Mufti died. Anyone who has been on DOL for several years would know of Rachel's ability to love totally, open her heart and home, give of her time over and over and over again. Despite seeing terrible things in pounds and having many experiences of loss herself, she has never ever given up doing her utmost for dogs and other animals and people in need. She fearlessly took on challenges when most of us didn't even know there were challenges to be met. Any animal who comes into Rachel's orbit is blessed. She is one of life's special people. Your losses have been huge, Rachel, and my heart aches for you and your boys. And for the other dogs who are experiencing the pain and confusion of loss. Please know that we hold you in our hearts. We know you are in pain and we deeply deeply mourne with you. Rest easy, Blacky. You were part of a special family.

Retractable Leads - A Menace ?
Loving my Oldies replied to DakotaJ's topic in General Dog Discussion
Coogie That is the story that everyone who wants to purchase a retractable should be told. That poor little dog. I'm glad the owner was traumatised as well and hopefully got some sense after that. How can people NOT think something like using one of those things through? -
Retractable Leads - A Menace ?
Loving my Oldies replied to DakotaJ's topic in General Dog Discussion
A little bit off topic, but I saw the funniest thing yesterday. I was gardening in the front garden and two young men were walking a dog on a long long lead - not a retractable, just a very long lead, probably 8-10 metres long. The men were in the middle of the road and naturally, the dog was all over the road and the footpaths and having a wonderful time. As the dog passed my front fence, he came up onto the footpath while the men kept walking on the road and between the dog and the men was a light pole - LOL. I watched with interest to see what was going to happen. The men were now level with the dog and the lead was against the light pole making a sort of triangle if you can visualise it. One of the men gave a jerk of his head at the dog, the dog turned, raced back around the light pole, out onto the road to join the men, and they all continued happily on their ways without a break in stride. Although I am not in favour of these long leads and retractables, I was impressed at this show of training/understanding. -
Meet Oliver... The New Foster
Loving my Oldies replied to westiemum's topic in General Dog Discussion
Here is Kisho's thread, Westiemum - just to give you some idea of how bad skin can look when the dog hasn't been treated. Kisho was shaved before I met him, but apparently he was about three times the size because his coat was so matted. See posts 48 and 56. You commented at post 63 LOL and then the change starts 65, 77, 78 and 88. http://www.dolforums.com.au/topic/185303-fosters-join-the-myrtle-street-moochers/page__hl__kisho -
Meet Oliver... The New Foster
Loving my Oldies replied to westiemum's topic in General Dog Discussion
Westiemum, a lot of that looks like his pigmentation actually. If he isn't scratching, I would say that all is good. To show you really really shocking flea allergy, I'll try to find Kisho's thread and link it here. Two years down the track from rescuing Bunter, he still scratches and because he is elderly and the potential side effects aren't worrying, I give him a half cortisone tablet every three days. Since getting rid of Bunter's fleas, I haven't seen one, but every so often, all the dogs go through frantic scratching episodes and I reckon it is just environment: heat, grass, pollen, whatever - same as humans. I'm on 2 antihistamines a day as well, otherwise I scratch until I bleed, no matter how hard to will myself to stop -

He is a very beautiful dog, Sheenat. You must be proud because beauty is more than skin deep.

Meet Oliver... The New Foster
Loving my Oldies replied to westiemum's topic in General Dog Discussion
Yes, WM. I think people sometimes forget that these little rescue babies can go through a heap of experiences in a very short time. Handled by different people, unfamiliar travel, etc etc etc. It is a testament to their remarkable adaptability that they bounce back so quickly. What's one of the best songs from "Oliver" . . . . . . Consider yourself one of us . LOL. I reckon Oliver is feeling one of you and yours very quickly. -

Pancreatitis, Westiemum, but I think if he had anything as bad as that, he would not be the happy chappy he is. He may just have a tummy ache (if anything at all) from more food and better food than he is used to. He has been pretty well vetted, so I think it is just something to be aware of at this stage. Didn't mean to scare you. -

Oh yes! I meant to comment on that too. I found that out many years ago when I thought one of my dogs was being playful and bowing
