  1. She has had a family dog previously but I am sure he was a teenager when he died last year so she would have been pretty young when they got him. So you could basically say she is a first time puppy owner Oh and I hope Taavi wasn't being taught auto sits!!!
  2. Agreed I would prefer to be asked to leave if the judge isn't considering my dog rather than hanging around in the sun while they run out their preferences several times more! It is very strange how rules change from State to State given we are meant to all show under ANKC rules though
  3. Lappy puppies are very cute and fluffy You think they are huge until you pick them up Given my dogs live on acreage very definitely! But they only get shown occasionally now anyway. The other two regular show dogs get washed twice a year (for the Classic and the Royal - both times at least a week out as I get the honour of washing them :p) then get hot towelled before shows. Arlo I think gets washed every month or two. He won't be getting washed again before the Royal which means he would be about a month from his last bath Banjo gets washed before nearly every show but then again he gets into mischief on the farm
  4. That would be Taavi :D He is "my" new show dog Or at least I have been told I am showing him at his first show at the very least Or I should say one of them as I met "my" other one, Anikka, last night who just arrived from Victoria I am managing to get more Lappies in the ring in WA, but seem to have been nominated to show them Both owners have been told they have to learn as well though Oh and to answer your FB question as it is easier on here - Lappies don't get washed that often. Ours really only get washed before a show (and then usually a week before) or when absolutely needed
  5. RS I was thinking of organising one for the three Lappy babes who are currently in WA (1 x 8 wo and 2 x 11wo) so Pippa is welcome to come too Might see about the weekend after the Royal (Sunday 8th October?)
  6. Happy birthday ST Hope you are thoroughly spoilt
  7. RnH, lovely new puppy! Can't wait to meet her in person Ptolomy, great news about Scoota CC, lovely photos of Gibbs And if I missed anything else it isn't my fault as I am still recovering :p RS, I have a 3/4 acre paddock that is pretty well puppy proof ;) Bottom of gates just need to be blocked and the rest of the fence has been fixed to keep Varda in (she got through a very very small hole which is now blocked ) Oh, and Banjo is the only dog who has discovered if you jump into the horses water trough you can get through to the next paddock We had 11 Lappies enjoying it yesterday and the only escapees were when people weren't quite enough going through the gate
  8. I got a rug from Itsmeg which I am very happy with
  9. 5 girls in season at once i think i'll stick with my two At least they love their crates its a bonus I would prefer 5 girls in season at once rather than spread over the year! CC, at least it was a nice day for Daisy to be outside BG, well done to Booker
  10. Booker looks like he is enjoying showing :D Mason, good to hear your boys are getting on well Happy birthday Ari
  11. Oh forgot to say too... MG (you change your name more often than a lot of people change their undies ) contact the company you bought the food off and let them know it hasn't been delivered. They should chase up the courier. And if not at least they know not to use that courier atm.
  12. 5 weeks until I find out if there is any chance of us getting a new puppy in Jan (then 4 weeks after that to see if there is a girl then 6 weeks after that to see if girl is show quality...) Good news after my last few days
  13. I am confused about why your husband didn't just tell him you were out. It was the truth wasn't it?
  14. I know of a Kelpie pup who was highly agressive at 12 weeks of age. Thanks to her my old Kelpie is now agressive when tied up or in a crate if another dog runs up to her (or was last time she was put in that situation which was many many moons ago)
  15. Tumbleweed, I have to watch that with the Aussie girls I do agility with. They don't always independantly finish an obstacle if I pull off slightly early as they watch my body language too much! Part of it is a training issue but since I only see them once a week (or less atm ) it doesn't help :p RS, I wanted to do a genetic councilling postgrad degree - but for the cost and needing to get over to Qld a couple of times a year to do prac I decided it was too hard
  16. Tumbleweed, Kyte looks lovely! And yes, Aussies are MUCH easier to train than Sibes
  17. I don't like kids... had an 8yo at work yesterday who said he felt like he was going to throw up  I pointed to the bin Strangely, his Mum ignored him even when he actually did go over to the bin! Speech Pathology is a lot harder to get into at Curtin than OT. My aunt is in her final year of OT after initially wanting to do Speech. She got in under a Psych degree with the intention of swapping after 1st semester but even getting HDs she didn't get in! So she changed to OT and after a year or so of trying to get into Speech (while still getting all Ds and HDs) she gave up trying. She also decided that she prefered OT because it was more broad rather than only being able to get a job in Speech if you do that degree. Vision impared people are scary... it is very very frightening to know the visual acuity and visual fields of some people who still drive
  18. Do pet shop animals have that same restriction? I would have asked them Glad everything worked out ok Josuki
  19. Either desex or neuter for either sex or spey for bitch and castrate for dog. If any of the terms above were used I would know what they are talking about though
  20. I agree, I did see a couple pulling on the weekend and even with my love of the gsd it isn't a very good look. The judges don't seem to care. There aren't many GSD shown unless it is a more "specialist" judge but the ones that do get shown seem to do quite well. There are some nice dogs that I would even consider taking home - and I like the chunky "old style" GSD :D However, I hate new people showing GSD as they seem to think it is ok to run their dogs up our Finnish Lapphunds butts to stop them in the Group line up We have "trained" most of the regular showies although there are a few who don't seem to consider the fact that our dogs are a lot smaller than theirs Quite a few Lappies across Australia have become ring shy due to GSD handlers not having their dogs in full control either in the line up or in the marshalling area... Whinge over
  21. Happy birthday Bear! And belated Happy birthday Emery Why? Are you going to show your new boy? He is pretty cute The info for the show classes is on the Dogswest website under current events I think. Classes on Tuesday with Helena are probably the best ones? 5 week vaccination was a waste of time at best and a problem for the immune system at worst Even 6 weeks is too young in my opinion. 7 weeks then 12 then 16 is a better option. Although it seems really strange that they are doing them 3 weeks apart rather than 4 anyway?
  22. Um, too late But I have a few things left in my shopping basket that I decided to leave until next pay :p So if you and J do come up on Sunday we can discuss it I was going to send you both a FB message as well as Mum asked if you were going to stay for dinner (the dogs you bring won't be an issue)...
  23. When we had the "studio" fundraising shots down at Canine I had to keep putting my hand in front of Banjo in order for them to get the focus ok as he was too black :p They had photographed plenty of other black dogs that night too and didn't have a problem Ptolomy and Mim, I hope your mothers are better soon!
  24. I don't dislike people for having a difference of opinion to me - if everyone thought the same thing then life would be boring But then I can usually argue both sides in a debate anyway
  25. Yes I would. But then I can't think of many things that would make me "dislike" a person without knowing them. If I had clashes with someone on the forum about how a dog should be treated/trained then they obviously wouldn't fit the above statement to me personally ;)
