  1. She cant be toilet trained.....who cares....she is priceless. ♥
  2. I have to disagree about the obedience. I trained several pekes up to trialing standard when I was breeding them in the 80's-90's. They were very easy to train & eager to work. Sadly, divorce stopped me from trialing them but I think that they would have got their titles easily. Several have got their obedience titles in Australia & I know of one in America that went through to UD. The biggest problem I had was the inability of the older peke breeders in Victoria being unable to accept that they could be trained for anything but showing. http://www.dogzonline.com.au/breeds/profile.asp?dog=43981 http://www.thepekingeseclubofamerica.com/p...t%20a%20toy.htm Wow that is very impressive....if my Toby wanted to do that he could....but if he doesnt want to do it he is the most stubbornest emporer I know.
  3. Since the idea is to replace the Elizabethan collar, I would certainly hope so!! In fact, I would have thought safer, they won't get it wedged in the dog door for example.... That is an excellent design Ruralpug....after recently having one of my boys with a cone on for 4 weeks and then given the diagnosis for another op and another 4 weeks with a cone on I had to chose for the Pugs sanity to have his eye taken out. I think he could have tolerated your design there cos he could have seen what was going on around him.
  4. Sorry off topic....Hate to get technical but you can actually milk a billy goat....I will get the ladies name and stud if you like. ;) :D I will pass on that one thanks.I hope the goats are de- scented! Pungent milk. Oh dog no, wouldnt touch the stuff.

  6. I cant speak for other breeds but the Maremma is brilliant. Thye are not aggressive at all and they accept what ever and whomever you accept. Remember Ive got 8 kids and Ive had Maremmas for almost 20 years - thats given them a fair work out. Ive had them in paddocks with up to 500 sheep and in my lounge room. We only have a small flock now and the paddock dogs and the sheep come in and out of the house yard to act as lawnmowers occassionally without missing a beat and still sit at the kds feet and lap up any affection they can grab. ive a bitch that was put with the sheep when she was 6 weeks old. When she is in whelp and about a week to go I bring her in and bath her and introduce her to her whelping box. She sits for 2 days with her back to me and would go back to th elambs if I let her. Within the 2 days you would never know the difference between her and the one thats been inside all her life. She allows the kids to help her whelp and doesnt batter an eyelid as the visitors come and go around her .She's never been house trained but she would blow up before she went to the toot in the house. If I let her near the lambs I have to bind her tummy because she stands and lets the lambs feed from her. Lots of breeders allow them to whelp right in the middle of the flock and lambs and pups are usually born in the same week or they give them a barn where they can come and go and never miss a day's work. Mine get maternity leave. I like em close to me and to be handled as much as possible because even though you want a good working dog you also dont want one that you have to worry about with the kids or that you cant handle. They go to work at 6 to 8 weeks. The last champion I bred works with goats all week and is gentle and fantasic with the adults and kids and has never lost one to predators. He came out of the paddock each week end - had a bath and ran around the show ring with out missing a beat. As pets - they are perfect and I love them so much I cant ever imagine not having them live with me. Ditto for the Pyreneans. They are bred to live with the flock and the shepherd in the high mountains in summer and spend their winters on the farms in the valleys. Generally though they will not kill anything unless it makes a stand. Not killing does not mean they are not highly effective - predators soon learn to keep a distance! They are in fact more effective because they dont kill (and it is not good for such a valuable asset as a LGD to be risking injury in a fight). It is not about 'agression' either but the instinct to protect and guard. If the 2 dogs came back what would 1 Pyrenees dog be able to do?
  7. So one cant protest to Puppy farming, or animal cruelty etc without also supporting the demise of our pets and life partners being our dogs?

And that was a beautiful testament to your breed, it gave me goose bumps. :D
  9. So if I had dogs on my property at night, I would want them killed (sounds awful, but that or my sheep) by my LGD.....due to still having 4 skin kids at home and them getting little visitors now and then, which LGD breed is going to be more human friendly but still aggressive enough protecting the flock? Is it as cut and dry as that?
  10. That is a great video....I am going to look up others to watch now. ☻
  11. What is the difference in the appearance of the Mareema and the Pyrenease? It may well be a Pyrenease that was next door and up the road too.
  12. That is the only option if you are an animal rights person. You guys need to know who you are supporting. Animal rights hero syndrome = no more domestic animals slavery = no more dog breeders = no more dogs. Only dogs that can be recommended by any self respecting animal rights hero are dogs at the animal shelter. When the last dog is born, mission complete. Now you can start on stopping people from having having children = no more humans = world a better place. Easy enough to understand. Be Green Go Veg !!! So are you saying she is associated with PETA?
  13. Is this one u describe necessarily the most dominant one? Isnt it the case that the most dominant one, is the one least shy? Or not necessarily? Each breed is different....my examples are PUG puppies, no dominance at 8 weeks of age, balls of bouncing little clowns. ☻ Specially if someone has come to visit them. Also litter sizes are different..Pugs of mine average if I am lucky 5, so there may only be 3 pets to choose from, and I know the temperment of my Pugs and they are all the same. They will all have different personalities of course, so would be good to meet mum and dad.
  14. LOL was going to click print and then saw 137 pages...best saved and read. :D It is going to be a fantastic read thankyou so much for that Steve. I have bookmarked the Amarcord site, another few hrs needed to search it properly. I think the Mareemas popularity a fews years back has helped me get a pre conceived idea about them....but now I see that they simply werent managed correctly by the owners, and hence end up in rescue. There is one up on the main road and it guards 2 horses, is bored sh!tless and spends all day running the fences barking at cars. Our next door neighbour 2 properties up had one when we first bought this place and while we would be walking our paddoks it would run down and over the creek and scare the bejeebas out of us....it would snarl and bark until we backed away. So once again thanks for the links.
  15. I voted yes yes and no....I dont mind the photo being taken, but the poll is would I want that photo then put online...a big NO.
  16. Spoke to the Compliance Officer today and they gave the dogs back to the owner....as insufficent evidence that they were the dogs that attacked our sheep. Fortunately the dogs were "visiting with friends" and actually live a fair way from here... dont know why they would have visited on their own? or why the owner hadnt at least done a door knock looking for his dogs? All I know is that we are down to 10 sheep and 3 lambs and wont buy replacement ewes until we have a LGD. Thankyou to all the people in the thread for their help and advice.
  17. Shazzapug ... animal liberationists like Ms Dalziell dont want people to buy dogs from registered breeders - registered breeders are on the same hit list as pet shops. To be eliminated. Souff Yes I realised this....if you watch the link in my other post the RSPCA's rep comments do reccommend reputable registered breeders as other option.
  18. The best attitude is the one that is happy and eager to come up to them, not the one hiding or sulking away from the others....I have no idea of this future pets breed....but in my breed attitude is the one saying look at me, you must be here to get me!!!!
  19. He does the same thing on the 7pm report on Puppy Farmers.....does he have his eyes closed when he takes delivery of the puppies for his shop.... http://www.oscarslaw.org/index.php
  20. Oh ok....well it doesnt matter which batch has a dominant then....the breeder will tell you from which puppies to choose from.....I would pick the puppy with the best attitude. I always say there is this puppy and there is this puppy....one is big and one is little...people always say they want the little one. Dont pick the little one. Attitude gives way to accepting and eagerness for learning/training.
  21. What are you breeding for? For what reasons did you breed batches of puppies?
  22. Mine has only recently allowed me to lead him in the front yard....I am hoping he will allow me this honour in the show ring next week....other wise he will get the accelades from the crowd again at how important he is, again. ♥
  23. I thought it was very well done by the young assistant, being the only one to get this footage I was disappointed that the only option given was save a dog from the pound.....a reputable registered breeder and where to find one would have been great.
