  1. This. Except I would write it from the point of view that I am not a fan of inside dogs, and any hint from the potential home that they would be keeping their dog inside for most of the time would be automatically turned down. Exactly.
  2. And if a dog is in rescue for months, should the rescue just wear the cost of the food, worming nd other general costs associated with owning a dog? What about the cost of toys, collar and lead? I didn't read the OP has saying Rescue should not make money or charge x for their dogs, but rescues should not place different values, significant differences, between a heinz mut, and pure bred. I agree, there is a hypocrisy to it; save a life, breeders breed for money, dont buy from a breeder while there are dogs in need of a home kind of thing.
  3. Cross bred? What contamination? The dog was an unregistered IW.
  4. Do you still have the print out of results? Thank you
  5. OT: My girls mouth / bite and get hold of their their pups for 'discipline', I guess that's punishment. And it works. When mama growls the pups know to back off or else; and when mama puts a bone in the middle of the pups' play group, as enticing as that bone is, if its mama's they cant touch it or she will wallop them. Subordinate dogs will also receive treatment similar to the above. The dogs dont smack (obviously  ), but they certainly discipline by physical reprimand.
  6. Woops just read the price range so maybe not for Central Asian :)
  7. A Central Asian? Big dogs but considerably bigger than a Rotti. Would be good with the cat and other animals it is raised with, definitely protective of family .. but may be too protective for your family's expectations ... I guess some CAS could do tracking ...
  8. They are. But you want to effect ANKC / All breed change on the basis that blanks in pedigrees ruin breed integrity. Dogs Vic want to use blanks as a registration tool to remedy the wolfhound problem - but pedigree blanks themselves are not the problem. The problem was created by a wolfhound breeder who falsified breeding records. If you want to protect wolfhound breed integrity, then petition for sire /dam dna testing.
  9. It closes doors also. So while you want to campaign to stop blanks being used and confining dogs to short life spans ... we with giant breeds who do live into their teens, because of a diverse gene pool - very much utilise and require blanks ie dogs imported from country of origin and given pedigree by International Kennel Reg/Body. I understand that there was an issue with that particular wolfhound registration, but why should it become an allbreed issue. While ANKC accept dogs with blanks in their pedigrees, we are breeding better dogs for it.
  10. As for blanks in the pedigree, big deal? I guess I am used to Anatolian ex Kangal pedigrees and the system dogs are reg from Turkey. Its hardly the sky falling in. and if the sky is falling in, isn't that a matter for wolfhound people? (So you know, blanks are not unusual in Anatolian or Central Asian pedigrees, and I guess a few other breeds too. Blanks mean that the said dog was either not registered or not recognised by re-registering body; sometimes in some places this is what has occured. It doesn't mean mixed breed.)
  11. I dont understand how it is any one's business other than the owner's of the dogs involved??? Do the dogs look like mixed breeding?
  12. A pedigree puppy from a good, experienced breeder whp knows their lines, will be a better prospect than a puppy at the pound.
  13. Hmm a family Anatolian, female might work. Female suggested based on potential size, not pot. Temperament. Activity level would be less than boxer and GSD. and guaranteed to fulfill role as watch dog, (an Anatolian guard dog would not be suitable for family situation).
  14. Megan - you can guarantee some breeds will be a watch dog. Guard dog: depends on your definition on guard, but watch dog, that is not hard to guarantee.
  15. Why would you send them a link to Oscar's Law? I mean do you know what it is? What is the actual LAW behind Oscar's Law?
  16. Wow. Why would you not want to use a dog that had proved its genetic fitness and outstanding exhibit of mother nature. Wonder why dogs life spans get shorter and shorter? because breeding is done by bureaucrats who think they know best.
  17. You need a good chiro vet. So there is Ray Ferguson @ Monash and Barry Haywood in Cranbourne.
  18. I dont think big heavy set dogs are prone to more health problems. I believe health issues, exist in familial groups, but that is across all dog breeds. Maybe you can be more specific?
