  1. There's also the licensing and distribution issue. For example in Australia you will pay $15-20 per tablet for a Praziquantel based all wormer to treat 20 kilograms - the same tablet can be bought overseas for approx $1. If you send these all wormer tablets to Australia by mail, customs will not let them through. It's nothing to do with the product contents but licensing / protection of Australian prices. (You get ripped off for worm tablets in Australia - they hike the price because they can :)) Incidentally you can legally bring the tablets into Australia on your person.
  2. Maşallah You do not need the approval of others to know you are doing right thing by your breed and dogs. All the best. :)
  3. relevance? I mean I could write all sorts of 'this house' goings on that would be totally irrelevant to 'your house' - and there would be no ethical correlation between them. I would be ceasing breeding if I did not have a bitch that was worthy of having more than three litters. in fact atm I have one bitch who is raising 4 puppies in -30C, whelping room temp 0C max. Big deal
  4. Exactly. OP, be very wary of veterinary 'minimal risk' quiffs. It's all stats and figures until its your dog and your dilemma ... and by then veterinary repro theory has moved on, and your dilemma is a shrug shoulders "oh we have advanced a lot since then ... we now recommend ..."
  5. If your bitch is a good producer then I would not stuff up her hormone cycle by terminating. Have the puppies. Hopefully you can register them. For sure you can find good homes for them. Good luck, it's not the end of the world and ignore all the tsk tskers
  6. What is the situation with this female? Does she have a rescue group overseeing her?
  7. I do not know but am interested to read answers to your question.
  8. Not so, have you seen these? :D Ride On Unicorn
  9. OT ATM I'm tending to think intense resource guarding over food is genetic. Just watching a few generations of dogs and who does what and who doesn't. The correlation seems to be 'did the parent also resource guard', and not much else.
  10. hahaha yes this is true ... I remember when I had my first Anatolian and needed to catch a taxi I would ask the operator can I bring my dog operator would ask what type of dog and i would say a big labrador  it worked :) ummm wonder if you had just said mastif if all might have been ok? I am not sure. People associate Labrador with friendly and harmless. So a big Labrador is just a bigger version ... mastiff can have slobber connotations and massive size connotations .. this is not good for a taxi request :)

  12. Awwww...so darn cute :) yes very cute indeed
  13. In 2012 the Anatolian Shepherd Dog Club Of Victoria Inc became affiliated with Dogs Victoria. http://www.cobankopegi.org/ Although the ASDCV is affiliated with Dogs Victoria, it is functioning as a national breed club for breeders/owners. You really need at least four or five people willing to put in time and money to start a breed club from ground up. If you PM me your email address I can send you some guidelines from Dogs Victoria on the roles / responsibilities of Management Committee members. Regarding shows, um that shall be interesting  RE a National Breed Council: As other posters have said, the hurdle requirement for a breed club to hold a National Breed Council position with the ANKC, is for the breed to already have, either: 3 State affiliated breed clubs or 2 State affiliated breed clubs + 1 multi breed club. If you have breeders/owners interested in starting and running a breed club, you could affiliate the breed club in the state where the affiliation requirements and those willing/able to participate, are the best suited for what you have. In Dogs Vic, the President, Secretary and Treasurer must reside in Victoria, but other Committee members do not need to. As long as individuals are members of Dogs Vic and their own State CC, they can be on the Management Committee of an affiliated club.
  14. Another tick for Mark Singer. He has worked with one of my Anatolians - HA reactive dog. Mark Singer is the only trainer I recommend for ASD and CAS owners in SA.
  15. Use block. it's quicker. and will prevent my norty posts leading you astray. Plus, it means your crappy posts and my crappy posts won't take up this thread. Big bonus.
  16. Guess I was thinking of your gratuitous comment in the recent Halti thread. But whatever you say. Yawn. I love you too Curlybertie, but I don't follow you in threads. Maybe you should do the same, it might help you.
  17. I am not sure if it is indicative of a wider acceptance of titre testing, but recently I had a dog o/s whose RNATT and rabies vaccination had expired, but instead of the dog requiring another rabies vaccination, the dog only required another Rabies Titre Test for import to Australia.
  18. Well Curlybertie, you know we all deal with incongruity in our own special way. Some people, like your good self, say it with flowers; other people, like my bad self (or good self) say it with no flowers. But I would say in general, we all get as good as we give. ETA: woops, you sent me emoticons and I did not give any in return. Here:
  19. My apologies Lilli for the typo which I have corrected in the original post should have read ' every MONTH' if you looked at the collective data from Australain export sectors you would see just how many pedigree dogs and cats are purchased and sent to these countries, these are the registered ones there are also many who just get sold from BYB to overseas 'investors' as I said some are going to reputable breeders and kennels etc. Others however are just a commodity and are purchased, received and bred till death just for fur/meat/illegal fighting and in the greyhound instance already broken down dogs are filled with steroids and raced or go to fattening farms and sold on to recover initial outlay. Photo's of cute children with lovable dogs mean nothing unless you were there to see the pic taken anything can be photoshopped. I am not pointing the finger at any one culture or country just asian countries in general is where the high incidence of this is happening. Thank you Stan's mum for seeing my point and supporting what I was endeavouring to convey that every dog irrespective of its breed deserves a chance to have a life HUNDREDS of pedigree dogs and cats exported from Australia every MONTH oh my goodnesses, I guess that is why there are less pedigree dogs and cats, they are all going overseas!!!
  20. I wish the dog luck :) As I am not sure you know 100% what you are doing
  21. My understanding of haltis is that their purpose is to aid walking at heel, not for the purpose you describe. Mark Singer is in SA and he is excellent; maybe you should consult a trainer for guidance with your dogs behaviour and what lead / collar to use. NB: Your dog being reactive to other dogs may or may not be to do with lack of socialisation as a pup.
  22. Why would you need to post pics of greyhounds - "every week hundreds of DOGS and CATS are exported worldwide from Australia " Hundreds? No need to bold your statement lilli...amazingly I understand. You are in a thread about GREYHOUNDS...if you have nothing of value to say about greyhounds why don't you toddle off and attack someone else. A thread about greyhounds - that then goes on to claim, hundreds of dogs and cats are exported from Australia each week, with the inference being for the meat trade. The plight of greyhounds is tragic yes, and the dog meat trade in Asia is tragic also - but hundreds of dogs and cats are not being exported from Australia each week - nor is it an 'attack' to question this exaggeration.
