  1. Now you're being nasty! The question was only asked with the intention of causing trouble, and to find a reason for another dol slaughtering. I can understand why Bub chose not to answer.
  2. Excuse me but my dogs do not have issues. And yes they get to be dogs so please keep your nasty comments to yourself. No offence but I don't see showdog's comments as nasty at all and she certainly didn't imply that your dogs have issues, what she said is that spoiling and humanising dogs CAN CREATE issues. These are dogs not children and they'll be fine, you worry too much I also don't see how showdog's comments were nasty. Just stating some facts. Bub, I'm sure they will both be fine. They probably won't even notice that you're gone. There will be too much to do and too many other dogs to play with.
  3. I'm sure its probably ideal not to bring kids to the salon while you're getting your hair done, but sometimes people just can't get around it. Where I worked, one of our regulars was a single mother, with no family or anyone to watch her 4 year old daughter while she gets her hair done. She's the sweetest kid, she sits in the toy corner and draws pictures to give to all the staff I don't think it is unreasonable for parents to bring their kids to the salon if they are well behaved, and they should be able to do so without having their kid attacked by a dog
  4. I've only just seen this, so I haven't read all the posts, just wanted to put my 2 cents in. When you are working on someone's hair, you really do need to concentrate, especially when you are cutting. If you have your dog in the salon, there is no possible way that you can have your eyes on it at all times. If it absolutely has to be in the salon, it should be confined. It is incredibly stupid to allow a dog to freely wander around a busy salon, where all manner of people of all ages will be coming in throughout the day. Parents also need to supervise their children, and as much as it annoys me when people let their kids wander around the salon unsupervised, it is still the responsibility of the salon staff to make sure all chemicals and equipment are stored out of reach of small children, and how many salons have a box of toys sitting off in a corner for kids to keep themselves amused? So it is somewhat understandable that a parent might feel comfortable to just let their kid go off and wander around while they are getting their hair cut. Almost all kids that come with their parents to the salon would not be sitting right next to them the whole time. I am of the opinion that this incident is entirely the salon owner's fault. You can't expect people not to bring children into the salon, but I think it is reasonable to expect to be able to bring your kids in without them being in danger.
  5. Thanks  Thunder has stopped for now but I'll keep that in mind for next time.
  6. Darcy is not scared of thunder, which I guess is a good thing but unfortunately he seems to be under the impression that thunder is in fact someone in his territory :D We've had thunder here for about 20mins, its slowly getting louder, and Darcy is running around the house like a retard, growling and barking and trying to figure out where the noise is coming from. Its driving me crazy, what can I do to calm him down?
  7. It doesn't matter, as long as they're good. But preferably someone on the coast I might try the one at Bateau Bay, I think the in-laws take their girl there too...
  8. I used to really like the vet we have been seeing. He is really nice, genuinely cares about the animals and always seemed to know what to talk about, and gives lots of great advice. However, I'm starting to think we might need to find a new vet. The short version is: We had an incident with his vet nurse when Darcy was a baby, he is now very nervous when we take him there. This was almost enough on its own to make me change vets, especially since the vet refuses to acknowledge that there is a problem with her. Recently, we took him in for a visit, because he had some bald spots on his face that I was sure were ringworm. However, when the vet looked at him, he said it was mange. We did what he told us too and soon enough the bald spots all went away, eventually. The vet told us it was highly likely that he would develop more spots, and told us we should have him desexed and not breed from him. Just today, about 2 months later, I felt something just under the tip of his ear, it felt like a scab. I had a look, and now I'm not vet but I am 99% sure that it is ringworm. Its easier to tell without so much hair around it. Now I'm wondering, were the other spots we found before actually ringworm as well? Or was it mange? Part of me thinks I should have just trusted my judgment in the first place, but another part of me thinks, the vet must have been right, because it went away with the treatment he gave us. So basically, I want to take him to a different vet and see what they say, but I have noticed that there are not a lot of competent vets on the coast
  9. Our vet told us that its only the oral medication that causes problems. I personally wouldn't. Demodex is highly toxic, I'd be very reluctant to subject a dog to a second very toxic chemical. Is there anything else we can use? I've found a few fleas on him over the last few days and I'm hoping I can stop it before it gets really bad.
  10. We are currently using demodex dog wash to treat Darcy's mange. Does anyone know if its still ok to use Frontline on him at the same time?
  11. Ooh now thats a good idea I'm always looking for new kong stuffing ideas
  12. You can teach your pup to toilet in a specific spot, just keep him on a leash when you take him out, and don't let him go until he has done it in the right spot. Your puppy goes to the toilet on the deck because he is not toilet trained yet, he is still learning. Don't make a fuss, just clean it up. If you catch him in the act you can distract him by making a noise (clapping loudly, stomping etc) and if he stops, take him to his spot to finish. If he finishes in the right spot, reward him. It is ok for the puppy not to go to the toilet immediatley after he eats. Keep taking him out until he goes, and watch for signs that he is looking for somewhere to go.
  13. Oh Mel, i've only just seen this RIP Buffy
  14. I know! Much as I believe Martha to be the best pup in the entire universe, Darcy is driving me crazy! I want to cuddle him! Its very distracting when you are trying to work and he is sitting there staring with all of his cuteness. I keep having to stop and cuddle him and then I get nothing done
  15. As she gets older, she will be able to hold on for longer. Most dogs won't soil in their crate and will cry to be let out if they need to go. If she doesn't cry, she most likely is still sleeping or just doesn't need to go. As mentioned above, as long as you can hear her cry if she needs to go, you don't need to get her up.
  16. Name: Darcy sex: Male Date of birth: 7th April 2008 Age: almost 4 months Colour: black and white Breed: BC Hobbies: Chasing birds, burying bones, barking, being naughty. Loves: Sausages, apparently and jumping out of his crate first thing in the morning and doing laps of the house. Hates: Being left at home alone.
  17. Our 15 week old puppy keeps getting onto the furniture. I have tried everything I can think of to stop him but he keeps doing it. The biggest problem is climbing onto the dining table, but he also gets onto the lounge and he tries to get on the bed but he's not quite big enough yet I think he knows he isn't meant to be up there because as soon as I catch him he gets down. He also gets down on command, but the problem really is him getting up in the first place. He also steals things, we try to keep everything out of his reach but its hard when he's getting onto and into everything. And the problem is, he knows when he has something he's not supposed to have, that I'm going to try to get it off him. So he runs. I don't want to chase him because then he will think its a game, but I don't know what else to do. I shouldn't complain too much though because apart from those two problems, he is pretty well behaved :D
  18. I wouldn't leave him crated for that long either. If I am out for more than an hour or two I generally leave my puppy in his room, which is the room we nomally crate him in at night. He has toys in there and his crate is left open for him to come and go. If you don't have a puppy safe room to use, you can use a puppy pen, make sure you put it on an easy to clean floor.
  19. She will get used to it. I was lucky, we have been able to put a collar on our puppy from day one with no more than a bit of a scratch at it To make it easier for her, try to distract her while its on, put it on while she's eating, and play with her while she is wearing it. Have you just left it on her, or have you been taking it off? I wouldn't leave it on her all the time personally, take it off whenever she's home alone or when she's sleeping. But apart from that, try to leave it on her as much as possible, because the more she wears it, the quicker she will get used to it. What kind of a reaction is she giving you when you put it on? Whatever you do, don't cuddle her or baby her if she is sulking, you will only reinforce her idea that the collar is bad. As for tightness, you should be able to easily fit two fingers inside the collar.
  20. This goes both ways. If he pays half for the rent he should get a say too. If he doesn't want to have the dog on the couch/bed/inside then why shouldn't he be allowed to say no?
  21. Its at the very bottom of the page, 'what to do if you discover a mess after the fact' I think it would be quite funny to watch
  22. I was googling some information on toilet training, and one interesting article suggested that the way to make your puppy go to the toilet where you want him to, is to scold any messes you findin the house (yes, scold the mess, not the puppy) then move the mess outside or wherever the toilet spot is, and praise it? Sounds a bit odd to me, does it really work? Here is the link: house-training
