  1. Unless it is causing problems is there a need to stop it? It is normal pack structure and she is saying she is boss of the others, the only time I would really be worried is if she is pissing on YOU or YOUR stuff... then you should stop her from doing that. When we own a few dogs at once we need to allow them their own pack structure within themselves or fights will happen, just as long as we are Alpha of all. If you interfere too much in their struggling for who is higher, that is when problems start. You could look up on the internet about body language and pack structure to help learn about what is happening with your kids... very interesting stuff. You have to also note who is higher and treat them accordingly, even if they are not your favourite. I would be really interested in hearing other points of view on this.
  2. A friend of mine had a macadamia farm and found out the hard way when her cattle dogs got stuck into the leftovers after harvesting !! Dogs were ok but were very sick for a while ! It was a bit touch and go with the old one
  3. I wont travel too far if it is only for 1 trial, but will go a fair distance if there is a double or triple on... Living in Brisbane there are quite a few trials easily accessible, I did go to Gympie and Maryborough (for their double / triple trials) a few months ago and heading to Coffs at the end of this month (but I am also doing the confirmation shows there too)
  4. Try Pro Plan... I use that on my dogs, I never have a fart out of them and their poos are nice and small and dont smell any where near others do. In my opinion it is the best premium food that I have used for my dogs. I have another friend who feeds a different premium food and her dog is rotten when he is in the car !! Even worse if she feeds him meat too (Ive had to ask her to stop feeding him meat before we go to shows !! ) . My dogs travel in the car with me and when you have four of them for hours of driving and not one fart, that is pretty good PS just wondering why you cook your dogs food and dont feed it raw?
  5. When I lived up that way I used the Caboolture Vet Clinic, they are just off Morayfield Rd, on a side road next to that little skate park and the train station, Oh opposite the Caboolture sports Club. The vet there was really nice, I took my litter up of puppies up for vaccs (had also taken the mum up beforehand when I thought she was overdue for whelping) and also a whippet that needed stitching. Really nice people and lovely vet. Dont know his name though, that was a few years ago now.
  6. I think it may depend on the breed/dog. My Elkhounds are supposed to have a soft, dense, woolly undercoat and coarse, straight outer coat. I have been giving the supplement to Kari since before she came into season and her pup is 3 weeks old tomorrow. Her outer coat has not softened at all. Thats good to hear, my breed should also have a hard outer coat, so dont need it to be softened at all. I could see the shampoo would probably have that affect but the supplement should be fine...
  7. Hi Shell Thanks for the reply - I do add suppliments to my sheps coats but its my Border collie i am wanting the spray for or similar - i want to have a coat that looks like how the american breeders have their coats - real thick and lush. Have you tried some of those products like Thick & Thicker? Some of the grooming vans sell products like that, never used them myself as I have kelpies
  8. Is anyone able to compare using Biotin against Royal Jelly? I have just been asking about growing coat back quicker in another forum and now come across this one.. would it just be a matter of trying them and seeing which works best?
  9. I feed my adults once a day, usually at night. They are usually out longer in the afternoon than in the morning.. I usually feed them when I get home so that they have plenty of time to eliminate it at that time if they want to.. If I have dogs that are out during then day then I would feed in the morning.. But at this point in time, my dogs are put away while Im not home to keep them quiet. My dogs are usually fed at all different times at night, as 1: I dont want them dictating to me when they get fed and 2: as I train most nights and show on weekends, I can never feed them at the same time. There are some interesting schools of thought on feeding at night, some friends feed their dogs their meal and then it is straight to bed, they were told by a friend that a dog that goes to bed on a full belly will be quieter and sleep better. Personally I prefer for my dogs to have a chance to empty out after a meal. I hate going to bed on a full tummy, so I dont see why my dogs should. Has anyone else heard about this?
  10. Hi Wylie, where is the best place to get the Royal Jelly from? I have a girl that is blowing coat now and taking her time about it, I want to get her coat back in order ASAP as I have some big shows coming up ! What is the approx cost and how much do you give them thanks in advance... KR
  11. If they live out at Ipswich, you could also try Booval Vets, apparently they are great and are set up for xraying hips and elbows. I would definately find out if the 2 score was actually from the hips or elbows. It can be hard with these things because as much as you can test your dogs, things like HD and ED can skip generations, and unless you have every pup in the litter tested for generations, it can be difficult to guarantee that resulting pups are going to be free of problems.. at least his breeder IS testing It can be a hard blow to buy a pedigree pup and end up with problems while something else gets a pound puppy and it is as healthy as a horse. Hope all works out for the pup.
  12. Thanks Hesa, I might just do that.... can you also take some pics of a baby beagle for me that day too?
  13. LOL thanks Hesa Hi Mirawee, I was really slack and didnt take pics from his last trial, the friend I went with was kinda in a hurry to go home as it was a 3 hour trip !! Maybe I will set him up with his ribbons and stuff and take a pic of him on the weekend if I get time.
  14. Well done! How old is he? Shamus is only 16 months old, he has been showing since he was 3 months old, gaining his Aust Champ title in early March this year. In January I decided he would be a fun obedience dog, so thought I had better start training him he didnt even know what sit meant at the beginning of the year he is a clever boy and a joy to have around.
  15. If he was going really well in his heeling I would keep going with him, but I need to get his focus back on me, he is listening to the judge and missing signals, and has started lagging, so want to get that all back on track again... No rush really, I want to enter him at Brisbane Ekka in Novice, so cant push him too much before that or he wont qualify for it. Thanks to everyone for their congrats !!
  16. I think I would giggle if I called out "Shamelesstar" but I usually just use his call name Shamus
  17. On the weekend at Maryborough trial, Shamus (Aust CH Suthenskys Shamelesstar) gained his final qualifier for his CCD title and also passed his Novice Sweepstakes too ! Proving beauty can have brains . He will now take a little time out from trialling while I concentrate on getting his heelwork better. Im so proud of my boy as he only started obedience training at them beginning of the year, and it is all so new for him. Thankyou to all those that have admired Shamus and and have given us so much advice and encouragement so far.
  18. Shamus is a pretty boy he gets confused as a girl sometimes, but you cant mistake him for a female if you check out the other end !!
  19. Congratulations ROM !!! Excellent work. I was there at the trial too with my black kelpie boy Shamus, and your girl is a pleasure to watch.
  20. I know that alot of people use them Seita and swear by them, you just have to be careful about posting about so openly that you use one at an obedience club that more than likely does not accept them
  21. Ummmm Im not so sure that I would admit to using a prong on DOL !! do you realise how many people are on this thing that are members of obedience clubs in brisbane?? People who know just about everyone??
  22. I love my retractable leads, but rarely use them for walking, they are mostly used when I am at shows and want to give the dogs a bit of exercise or to toilet them, they are usually more comfortable toileting as far away as possible from me :D The leads slide nicely in and out as the dog moves around but is easy to lock if need be. It is like anything, once you learn to use them properly they are a great tool.
  23. When I walk my 3 together, they are usually out in front, not pulling but with leads long enough they can be there and me not step on them, if something is coming I will heel them to my left. I like my dogs being out in front because I can keep an eye on them, and I like to watch them walk  silly I know, but it is kinda calming, plus I can also see if they are hurt in anyway. They all walk nicely side by side, very cute. Trying to get 3 kelpies to heel to my left is just not worth the effort Once they get comfortable and get the hang of it, they are really good, although Shamus needs to be renamed Ziggy on walks as he tends to zig zag in front of me as we are walking along. He is better with other dogs there to steady him, but shocking when alone
  24. My boy Shamus gained his second leg in CCD on the weekend with a score of 90 out 100 !! he also got 2nd place. This was a great result coming after a disaster run the trial before where he totally forgot what sit meant !!! Arrggghhhh even in the recall and we ended up with 72 poor baby looked so stressed and confused, so we had some quick patching up to do before the next one and he only missed one sit. :D Turns out the little man is working off the judge !!! Too smart for his own good I think. So back to the drawing board with his training and doing totally different exercises to what the person is calling in my ring runouts ! Next trial is next weekend at Maryborough, fingers crossed out little problem is sorted out by then
