-
Same Ok change in plans... looks like I will be going now

Forget about learning anything from Steve this workshop, I've just taught you one of the most important life lesson right there! Chocolate freckle + strawberry and cream = best thing ever!
-
Sure, send her over, you can have Daisy
-
OMG I can't believe you remember that!! hahaha. I had a packet of chocolate freckles and a packet of strawberries and creams (you need to eat both of them together at the same time - seriously, try it!) at the last K9 Pro workshop at CT. I had them zipped in the pocket at the top of Daisy's crate during the workshop and forgot they were there... until Daisy unzipped the pocket and ate the whole bloody packet ;) Thankfully she waited until no-one was watching her to do this, unlike that DOL meet with the box of Krispy Kremes...

We are looking forward to meeting you too BL! The beagle is called evil for good reason though, so I'm sure she'll do plenty to live up to her name! (and in front of everyone, to ensure EVERYONE knows how she came to be called the evil beagle)

So excited you are able to come this time gsdog2! Can't wait to finally meet you and Indi

Erin, I agree with you in that most people who do their research well before getting a beagle find them a pleasure. I think the trouble usually occurs when someone hasn't done enough research or get one for the wrong reason (i.e. they are sooo cute etc). ETA: I've been told by people who have worked with customs dogs that Daisy has more drive than most of the beagles there so maybe that explains it :D

Yep they sure are and I think that expressions suits beagles to a T. They can be a really stubborn, hard headed typical hound though and I think a lot of first time owners are not necessarily prepared for this. I was and I still found my beagle a challenge but she is still to this day the most scent driven beagle I've ever met. I could hold her up by her collar with her front paws off the ground and she would still be sticking her nose forward trying to scent, I used to be able to shove steak under her nose and she wouldn't even notice it was there. Actually, on the occasions we've gone to beagle meets and been at a park full of beagles, she was always the one off miles away on her own with her nose down :D I've made it work for me but I think if she'd gone to an average pet home they would have found her a challenge. She is a very active and busy dog, and is not afraid to challenge you. Here's one for you....

Ok I've got a new goal to add to my list... I'd really like to have Daisy ready to enter an agility trial by the end of this year! I don't know how we'll go with that as we just started agility for fun, but hopefully we'll get there :D
-
Go Nicole!! What a way to start the year
-
Eventually... when we're not so crap Hopefully it won't be too much longer, but I don't have a lot of room to practice at my place :D We go back to class soon so hopefully that will give us opportunity to work on it in a bigger space. ETA: Go Ruby!! She's doing so well!!

	You mean like this?

Great work RV! Getting a dog to overcome a fear like that is a huge deal! are you wanting to work towards doing an ET with him? I am very thankful for my slow hound!! She is a good learner dog in many ways :D

I think we are slowly making progress on our 2x2. We just did a session and Daisy is going really well. I haven't done anything with her in a couple of days and she was giving me heaps and really nailing each entry. The last session we did she was still sometimes running through the poles on the way back or entering from the wrong side if I made the angle a bit too tricky but she got it each and every time today. Fingers crossed we keep it up
-
Great work with the girls RS! Your handling is MILES better than mine so I think you are doing a great job :D Edited because I wrote handler instead of handling

I trial in obedience and have just started agility training, I have volunteered at both clubs as a steward etc at trials because I think it's important to help out and you learn so much from doing it. I am also instructing at obedience club this year.

	Same

Daisy is sociable in that she'll get along with anyone, though she doesn't like rude dogs. But she's also quite independent and will happily run off on her own scenting, in fact she very rarely wants to actually play with other dogs. She's also not that interested in people, people who ask me if they can pat her are usually a bit disappointed because she'll rarely show an interest in getting a pat!

	Well done AD!
-
LOL Raineth my beagle certainly loves the sound of her own voice!
-
Awwwww I love Wikki, she's so lovely.

Totally agree with you Cos Beagles are HIGHLY trainable IF you use the right methods. They are smart dogs, I love living with mine because she's so easy to get along with other dogs, my cat, she's great for dog sports because she's confident and isn't timid or easily fazed by things. I think the right first time owner would do fine with a beagle if the breed suited their lifestyle and they had a good breeder who talked them through all the pros and cons. I work my beagle off leash all the time and I don't have any problems, but I put the effort into training her.
-
I dont see how? It is obvious when a dog has missed or mistaken a cue by performing another one. If the judge is aware of what command words they will be using I can't how it would be an issue. ETA: what Cos said. Also, I don't think the rules should change as I don't see a problem with it being at the judges' discretion. I've never seen a judge who has refused for a person to use non-English command words when they've requested it anyway.
-
I don't see what the big deal is? Who cares what words people use as long as they aren't offensive (I.e. Swear words) and are still one syllable. Plenty of people use different words for each command even within English, I've heard a range of words used for the recall command, drop/down etc. Why would a judge need to learn another language if the triallers tells them what words they are going to use? I plan to have two different sets of command words for my next dog and some of our 'working' command words will be German which is pretty common in dog training anyway. I honestly fail to see what the big deal is.
