  1. Congrats to all the nominees! And also... Go Shell
  2. I am sure Ruth can help you out - she makes great collars But just in case, K9 Pro also have inexpensive good quality leather collars; http://www.k9pro.com.au/categories/Dog-Col...lars-by-K9-Pro/
  3. Daisy isn't terrible and admittantly i haven't been running as many training sessions as I'd like to but she's just not nailing the entries with the confidence I want to see. I am sure it is something I'm doing wrong! She normally picks things up pretty quick. On the plus she is building a bit more speed now.
  4. We definitely should, because Huski's dog (read: Huski) is not going great at weavers.
  5. Who could forget you and Callie?? Are you coming to the workshop next month?
  6. Gayle, I definitely want to get to UD with my next dog. Daisy has only been entered in a handful of trials and I've pulled her from the ring for a break (my nerves are what stuffs us up) but she's trained to do everything up to CDX (with the exception of full out of sight stays - haven't been bothered to train those yet) and she can do a couple of the UD exercises which I've just trained for fun. I don't know that we'll ever get to UD because I don't know if she has the stamina necessarily to hold the level of drive I'd want for that length of time but I guess we'll see Realistically I want at least a Novice title on her but I'd like to aim for a CDX too. Anything really would be a bonus considering she was a pet we bought for my mum and I didn't start training her till she was two!
  7. Reading Huski's thread in Training the sound like a LOT of work - great for an active, sporting home. Are you interested in doing dog sports? All of the ones I've met have seemed more active than what the OP sounds like she wants. What about a Finnish Lapphund? Most are active without being over the top. Not sure if they'd meet you grooming requirements though.
  8. So sorry to hear that Gayle Watching them getting older is so hard to do, I hope she goes peacefully
  9. Kroll Gardens is massive, but the last few times I've been there it has been full of rather feral dogs. I haven't been in ages though so no idea what it's like now. Nudgee Beach is ok too... can have the same problem though :D
  10. I didn't say anything because I knew that you would not have even considered it I was more concerned about lurking readers than about you, Huski - I know you're too smart to get a new dog without doing all the research. :D That's cool Star, I knew what you meant I just wanted to make sure everyone knew a dutchie was definitely off the table :D PF so far they are at the top of my list
  11. Thanks Star There is definitely no chance - ever - that I will own a dutchie so no one needs to be concerned about that
  12. Yeah I have, but they don't really appeal to me, not sure why. I am thinking seriously about a couple of the gundog breeds
  13. LOL I obviously haven't met enough standards! There is one we always see the farmers markets who is just THE loveliest natured dog. She is so calm and well mannered and just a lovely lovely dog.
  14. They are lovely looking - and the two I know down here are lovely dogs - though one is a barker. One is a Trackiing Ch. - lovely worker. Can't remember is anywon has suggeted a Lagotto - but maybe ba bit much grooming? I haven't thought of a lagotto, but I don't really want anything that will need to be clipped or will require a tonne of grooming (because I am lazy). Oh all the standards I've met have been lovely, I do like them, in fact my mum is really smitten with them I also know they are still a working dog, though the ones I've met have been quite calm and placid and I haven't met one yet that would have the level of drive I'm after. They are taller than what I'm looking for too, maybe one day
  15. It's important to remember there is a big difference between prey drive and aggression. No-one here is suggesting that all dogs that attack or kill other dogs are acting out of prey drive. We also don't know for sure that the two dogs in this case were acting out of prey drive, considering none of us have met them or done any temperament testing on them. The point that I think most of us are trying to make is that killing these two dogs will never solve this kind of problem. The only way these kinds of incidents will ever be reduced is if we had more wide-spread education about canine behaviour like prey drive, what it means, how to control it, how to select a dog that is suitable for your lifestyle and abilities. Euthanising these two dogs will not stop these kinds of attacks from happening. If the only action ever taken after these kinds of incidents are that the offending dogs are PTS, nothing will ever change and these things will keep happening.
  16. I've never seen pics of Large Munsterlanders before, they are lovely looking dogs!
  17. Thanks again everyone for all your suggestions At the moment I am still really loving the idea of an ESS or Brittany. But I have a few breeds to research into now and definitely need to speak to breeders and owners and meet a lot more of the dogs I'm considering. Wish I could have a puppy sooner rather than later
  18. What OsSoSwift said but I also put it on cue because I wanted a cue to say 'stand with your front paws on that random object'.
  19. Just to clarify, I only put a cue on the behaviour once I was happy with it. I shaped it to begin with.
  20. I've always said 'up'. I've never had the drop problem before so if you can - I'd only C/T for him being in a stand.
  21. I love Dobes Mon, but they are bigger than what I am after for my current situation. I will seriously consider a Dobie next time I am after a big dog though, they are probably my number one choice
  22. How does DWD cabaret work Maree?? Will you be giving us a demo?
  23. Lucky I'm bringing the beagle, it sounds like we will have an over flow of crazy BCs
  24. I think Steve will have enough of the challenge with me and the evil beagle Will be very interesting to see how Tyson goes!
