  1. LOL Aidan, I found that one on youtube earlier today! He looks AWESOME! I'd love a dog like that - I love his looks, his size, his attitude he looks like great fun. Will definitely be youtube'ing hunting videos! Thanks TSD
  2. There was a time where I really wanted a GSD! But I see SO many in obedience (and very rarely in agility) who just seem to plod around the ring. They have no speed, and it seems, not much drive. I have only ever seen one WL GSD in the obedience ring though and she was quite lovely. A bit bigger (same with laekenois) than what I am after for the moment though. I do love the look of the sable WL GSDs I'm not a poodle person per se, but I really like standard poodles. They are great to train and they are brilliant once you have them working with you. Not sure about sports though - haven't seen too many standard poodles in fly-ball or agility. But that could be because I don't watch a great deal of either of these activities. I like standards but they are probably too big for what I am looking for at the moment. I've seen them in agility before and they do look quite fun to run in the ring!
  3. Hmmm will have to look into TTs! Corvus do we have GHTs in Australia?
  4. I have met any TTs in person, Corvus. I will need to suss them out. They look at a bit small? How big are they normally? ETA: I've never met any PWDs, either. I do like the look of them though.
  5. LOL I like a challenge but I would be miserable living with a lazy dog! I need something that's still active... a lazy dog would drive me up the wall! Beautiful dogs though
  6. Wow thanks so much for all your suggestions and info! Thanks Quick, it is definitely something I need to do more research into, I don't know anything about field ESS. The show line ones I've met definitely haven't been what I would describe as very drivey but then I haven't met that many so I definitely need to look into it a lot more. I definitely want something that has more drive than Daisy but I don't want anything that I would be miserable living with! I've not considered HWV, I will look into them too But no one would be surprised to see one in the obedience or agility ring, everyone knows they are a good dog sports dog, I really like to have breeds that are a bit unusual or ones that you may not see around in the ring very often. I know tonnes of people who have Aussies in dog sports, they are a bit too BC-ish for me. I know that sounds terribly picky as I do really like them and I think they are lovely dogs (just as LuvLottie how much I fawn over Lottie whenever we catch up for training) but I'm usually the only person with a beagle at a trial, I like to compete with breeds that are a bit uncommon. I haven't ever seen an ESS in obedience or agility, though I do reckon they are more common in obed/agility than say a beag or a Sibe. Wow thanks so much for all that info TSD! Dallies probably aren't quite my cup of tea (though I remember REALLY wanting one after seeing 101 Dalmations as a kid :D ). Is she very prey (toy) driven or is she more of a food driven dog? I do like GSPs, just not enough to own one ;) A person at our obedience club has a GSP and she is lovely just like Coco but for some reason I don't look at them and think "OMG I have to own one" if that makes sense? ETA: Valls are a bit small for me. I do think they are cute but just not for me!
  7. Mish has four Matrak dogs in his pedigree so I am sure they are distantly related in some way, Mish doesn't have Matrak Mychaela in his pedigree though so I'd have to see an extended one or see Mychaela's pedigree to know for sure.
  8. Thought so Mish's sire was a Matrak dog, I can spot them a mile off Now I know why I think Wolf is so handsome
  9. Boxagirl, a bit OT, but Wolf reminds me a LOT of Mish. Does Wolf have any Matrak or Bluemooska lines in him?
  10. My Boxer is smaller than my husky :D about border collie size... the females aren't big :D One my list if I ever venture into a different group (love my utility dogs) is Brittany but I like clingy-ish dogs Which do you find drivier, Boxagirl? My Sibe is both very prey and food driven. If I ever got another Sibe I'd want one just like him (another reason I'm not in a hurry to get another Sibe - Micha is after all the best Sibe in the world, and any Sibe I ever own will forever be compared to him :D)
  11. I like Boxers but yeah bit bigger than what I'm after for my current situation. For those who have recommended WSS, what is the difference between them and English Springers? ESS are the only non-beagle breed I am leaning towards at the moment. It would be one from field lines though from the limited research I have done. I quite like kelpies, the ones I have met have been lovely. But not sure they are quite what I want and I don't love them looks wise If I was after a small dog it would almost definitely be a rough coated JRT! They are spunky little dogs, I really like them. What worries me about getting another beagle is getting one that doesn't have as much drive as I am after, I know you can temperament test and everything and I am really keen to see what would happen with a beag I raised the "right" way from eight weeks, but I do have some reservations. The benefit of an ESS from what I can tell so far is that if I got one form field lines it would be more guarantee that I'd get the drive and temp I am after. Beags are everything I love in a dog though.
  12. I can appreciate how other people would like them, they just aren't for me
  13. I thought you were coming to visit anyway?
  14. You can compete in QLD without pedigree dogs, but you can only register a dog on the limited associate register once or twice I believe. I will definitely look into Pyr Sheps! ETA: I like Keesies but yeah... not the coat (not when I have a Sibe - that's enough grooming, thank you!)
  15. Sorry I didn't mean that they were like BCs temperament wise, but are sort of in the BC/lab/goldie type pile for me :D I do really like them though and if I was going to go for a more common dog sports breed it would probably be a Toller (though I know Tollers aren't all that common numbers wise, I'm not making much sense am I? :D )
  16. Are Pointers and Dallies very drivey? I know they are relatively active breeds. I actually quite like ACDs, but not sure I could own one. Though the well bred ones I love have temperaments that quite appeal to me. I like Aussies but they are probably a bit too common for me (kinda like BCs, Goldies, Labs etc). At the moment a working line ESS is probably appealing to me the most, I've never even considered them, but they seem quite lovely and on paper are ticking all my boxes. I know nothing at all about them though.
  17. Thanks so much for all the recs guys! Do we have them in Oz?? No I've thought about Tollers, haven't ruled them out entirely but probably a bit BC-ish for me (did I mention that I'm super picky? ) I love Standards but I don't know if they'd really be drivey enough for me.
  18. Probably a little smaller than what I want and not really my thing look wise I don't mind people-focused dogs, super clingy ones that want to be with you constantly every waking minute of the day tend to grate on my nerves though. No not entirely, I am just not sure if they are quite what I want. I know some with decent drive like Soaks but then all the other ones I've met have been quite mellow and low drive and I'm a bit worried about ending up with a coach-potato lappie :D
  19. Yeah I didn't realise how big they were, I have just been looking at them and I think I will be ruling them out for size. Flat Coats remind me too much of labs/goldies No offense to anyone who owns them but I am not a huge fan of a lot of the retrieving breeds. Obviously, there are exceptions to that, with the breeds I listed above. LOL don't know about showing... maybe if the right dog came along I'd give it a go... ETA: Rally, Mini schnauzers would be too small for me. Daisy is 15kg and I really wouldn't want anything much smaller than that. Maybe a standard? I don't know much about them though.
  20. Yayyyyy It will be worth it just for all the wine we'll be having :p
  21. Ok, I'll preface this by stating that it will be at least a year or more before I can have another dog, but I am quite research obsessed so always like to plan ahead. Daisy is already four years old and I know in the next two years I'll be wanting to add a pup to our household to train for dog sports (at the moment, it will just be obedience and agility). I am thinking about getting another dog to do dog sports with, I want one from puppy hood from a reputable breeder. I am really keen to get another beagle so I haven't ruled that out, at the moment it is my first preference. But I am also open to getting a new breed altogether. I want to get another Siberian one day but not while I still have Micha as I just couldn't deal with two times the amount of husky-shedding (LOL). Seeing a video of TSD's English Springer Spaniel the other day made me realise how many awesome breeds are out there that I haven't even considered. So I wanted to ask in here to see what everyone would recommend What I want: - Medium size (no bigger than my Siberian who is just under 30kg, and no smaller than my beagle) - Has a reasonable amount of drive - Has a naturally confident/outgoing/sociable temperament (obviously a lot of these things will differ puppy to puppy) - I'm not afraid of having a breed that will present a bit of challenge, in fact I prefer it - An active breed What I don't want: - A BC, Goldie, Lab, Staffy, toy breeds or any of the really common dog sports breeds - Anything with a really long haired coat - Anything SUPER high drive i.e. a WL Mal (I want drivey but not that drivey) - Breeds that are super people orientated/clingy - Low energy breeds Breeds I like but don't know a lot about: ESS, Soft Coated Wheatens, Brittanys, German wire-haired pointers, Harriers (and heaps more I can't think of right now) Sooooo recs? ETA: It may seem like there are loads of breeds that fit into my requirements, but I should have prefaced with the fact I am quite fussy. I have to look at a dog and know just looking at it that I could own it. Yeah. So... fussy
  22. Sorry, yes it is coming from her vulva. it is definitely not urine, it's got a sort of gluggy consistency, it's not bothering her at all but I've never seen it before.
  23. I just noticed today that Daisy has all this clear coloured discharge around her vulva, it doesn't look red or anything and it doesn't appear to be bothering her. Does anyone know what this means? Do I need to take her to the vet ASAP?
  24. Less than a month to go! Who is definitely coming?
