Thanks guys It was all handler error, and really we can't possibly have worked any worse than we did today so we can only go up from here The worst part was that I KNOW Daisy is more than capable of working well and she is normally so consistent and reliable, and it was something so simple that I stuffed up on (rushing into the ring a total mess and not spending enough time getting her revved up). Amps next time is in two weeks

Well our first trial is over and done with thank god!! I was SO nervous going in that I didn't realise the dog before me had been scratched and got called over to the ring a minute or so before we went in. So naturally I freaked out and hadn't gotten myself in the right head space for it and hadn't revved Daisy up into drive properly. It was basically the worst run out we'd ever had :( And the worst part is, is that I KNOW had I been with it and had another 5-10 minutes to get ready before going in the ring, she would have smashed it. We were actually sitting on a pass until our SFE, which is one of Daisy's strongest exercises. The judge sort of had hold of Daisy's head and because I was a mess and Daisy wasn't switched on, she moved. Perfect scores for recall, and I did group stays where we had a perfect score for the sit stay and would have had a perfect score on the down stay but she broke with twenty seconds to go - doh! None of the dogs in CCD got a quallie so had Daisy passed her SFE or held her down we would have placed first or second. Oh and on the upside the dog next to Daisy broke during the sit stay and broke the dog next to it, but Daisy didn't budge So there were some positives.

Wow you're a lot nicer than me - I would be FURIOUS if some idiot parent let their kids jump on my dog, pull their tail, whack them with sticks Even though my dogs are friendly, it's disgusting kids would do that to a dog and bloody dangerous too

You're welcome Julzjc! Let us know how you go. Bonnie sounds like she has a lot of potential.

OMG Shell Zero and Micha really freak me out. Micha's favourite game is when I pretend to be a monster and step forward really slowly with my hands like claws saying "I'm going to get you!" He LOVES it - he wooo wooos and spins and play bows me Oh, and he'll suddenly run away really fast, then I'll hide, and he'll turn around and I'll jump out and he gets so excited Awww, silly Sibe boys, they are so cute. -
Working Full Time And What To Do With Dogs At Home

My dogs spend at least 90% of their time lying around doing nothing so I don't feel that guilty working full time I do obedience so I spend a fair bit of my time with them playing training games. I've taught Daisy all the obedience basics but I've also done things like teach her to pick up and retrieve a wooden dumbell, do the scent discrimination exercise etc. The training I do with her is pretty high energy so we don't need to do a lot to give her a good burst of mental and physical stimulation. ETA: I am a mean dog owner and I do nothing when I leave the house - I don't get out toys for them or give them kongs or anything But then again they don't give a crap when I leave either -
I agree with Poodlefan. Find a trainer who can help you get the best out of Emmy. I had a similar experience with Daisy - very smart but not easy to train with conventional menthods and our puppy school teacher was totally useless and didn't help us at all - I thought it was because she didn't like me or Daisy but in hindsight I think it was because she didn't acually know how to handle or train a dog like Daisy. The two trainers I have worked with since then have been amazing and always willing to help me, understand my dog and know how to help me get the best out of her. They also know that there is no one way to train a dog and they were able to identify what would work best for Daisy and I.

My itch tends to be every four years. All three of mine have four years between them, and Daisy is three turning four at the end of the year am hoping to get another pup next year some time

I can't stand that either! I can be a bit negative sometimes, but I tend to joke about it more than I mean it seriously. The problems we have are handler related, not dog related Another pet hate of mine are people who are really up themselves and think they are the best thing since sliced bread and constantly talk themselves up, but when it comes to delivering, they aren't actually that crash hot. What does that stand for?

Evil Beagle just gets/steals her own food when she wants it anyway Hahahaha she certainly does

I would not be impressed if someone tried to feed my dogs without asking. I also generally don't like other people giving Daisy commads and then rewarding her for the wrong thing I.e. Crappy heel position, sloppy sits or downs etc. So much so that the next dog I train will have totally different words for obedience so no one can stuff them up but me

love the front on shot! Can't wait to hear all about him on Sunday Nic, do you think he will be food or prey? Or not sure yet? LOL
-
Mack can't wait to meet him Nic!
-
She's a naughty thing Flick... she wasn't supposed to go to training on Monday night either but she did anyway
-
Personally I would recommend a one on one session with a behaviourist... nip it in the bud now and then look at obedience club once you have the problem under control. If you are in NSW Steve from K9 Pro is always highly recommended http://www.k9pro.com.au/pages.php?pageid=131

Well come on LL.... we're waiting!!
-
OI! You can talk... LOL... seeing as you're so quiet and shy and stuff
-
Pffft look how well you guys have done already! I just like having someone to chat to at training, just as Seita or Maree
-
I'm sure someone who uses it will be able to come by and give you a step by step idea. I know there are a few here who have/do use it, it's not something I use with Daisy though as I need to keep her nose off the ground, but there are loads of ways to build focus and playing games like the two food or two toy game is one way.

Reminds me a little bit of Camp Tailwaggers!

I think you should definitely start videoing and uploading to youtube :D You can tell Lottie naturally just loves to work, and spend time with you We should meet up for a training session once your exams are over!
-
I think it must be because red dogs go faster ETA: I'll never forget when you let me play with Scoota! I am still amazed when I think about how awesome his LATs are! It really inspired me to teach them to Daisy and I am so glad I did as I think it looks way better than the around the back type, she's not as good as Scoota is at them though
-
Hey Beth I totally missed this! So glad you have popped by the thread Lottie is fantastic, especially for such a young dog, I can't wait to see how you guys go You guys were doing a great job at training the other night :D
-
He sounds so cute!! You should do a video for us So it could be more of a lack of focus/excitement issue than anything else? Some people use things like the two food or two toy game to help speed up downs. Might be worth a try if you haven't already?
