  1. Here's a vid of Daisy from last tonight: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jKwC-AZX33M I have to remember to run her a little bit before hand! Otherwise we'll get barking in the ring ETA: Why is walking in a straight line so hard
  2. Maybe try a soft leather tug, RS? I'm thinking of getting one for Daisy.
  3. So, by your definition Corvus, keeping super high value food for training sessions only is deprivation?
  4. What Staranais said Corvus I am assuming you must give your dogs access to food, toys, your praise and attention whenever they want? Because if you don't, you are depriving them. I deprive my dog of food every day unless we are training or I choose to feed her; she's hungry all the time and I don't free feed her. I don't feed her whenever she wants food, either.
  5. Initially it was because I had lots of people tell me I was wasting my time/it couldn't be done/ask why would I want to do obedience with that dog etc. But then I found that training has given my dog and me an awesome bond that wasn't there before, as corny as it sounds, sometimes watching her work brings tears to my eyes ;) as it was so difficult and at times I never thought I'd get there, but to see how happy she is to work and how much she enjoys it is the best feeling ever. I also love taking her out and seeing people change their perception of what the breed is capable of (except for when I stuff it up!)
  6. How old is Akira at the moment whiskedaway?
  7. Mish and Daisy aren't really scared of anything that I can think of. Unless Daisy could understand English, in which case she'd be terrified of the word starvation
  8. You guys are going great guns and have improved so much already! Yeah, fun... in other words, bloody terrifying
  9. They're cute and all... but not my cuppa tea If I didn't have beagles I'm not sure what I'd get... I would love to have a dog that's a breed that is more naturally inclined to work with you, just to know what it's like. I have a soft spot for breeds like GSDs and Dobies, but after meeting Ptolomy and Scoota, I quite like Tollers too!
  10. And she's sooooooo fun to handle! Especially for such a young dog! Not that I want an Aussie or anything.
  11. That's what I get when I watch utube and Macguyver at the same time ;) No it's definitely Sunday
  12. No idea Sounds interesting though! I'm a bad influence ;)
  13. I've been terribly lazy too, which is very naughty considering we have two obedience trials this coming weekend But I'm in the midst of moving house so that's my excuse Can't wait to catch up on Monday night I will try not to be bossy Watching your vid, is there a reason you get her to sit up from her down?
  14. Awww I love Lottie, she's so lovely How is her back end awareness going? Will you be back at training on Monday night, Beth?
  15. Awww puppy zoomies! My adult dogs still do it. Often when Daisy gets zoomies I'll call her over for a training session and we always have a super fun time
  16. This time next year to the day! http://www.qldstateobediencetrials.org/joo...fo&Itemid=2
  17. Indeed ;) You should come even if you don't bring a poochie Daisy can show everyone what a bloody PITA she is (Ptolomy has already met her, so she already knows  )
  18. I've never put a coat on my dogs when we are training, Micha obviously doesn't need one, Daisy seems to like the cold and she works well when it is.
  19. Brisbane  You should definitely come!! ;)
  20. LOL that's who I already use as my local vet! Susan is great We are about 2 minutes away I guess it's not too much further from Windsor - just thought I'd check and see if there was a good local vet there, if not I was going to stick with Susan.
  21. Hi everyone It looks like we might be moving to Windsor (Brissy northside). I was wondering if anyone had any good local vets they can recommend? My main vet is out at Ormeau which is fine for yearly check ups but I would like a good vet in the area I can go to if I need to quickly. I feed a raw diet and don't vaccinate each year so I would prefer a vet who isn't going to be judgmental about that.
  22. She is doing an obedience focused day in Sydney in November...... Ohhhhhh soooo tempting!!! Are there any details for that one available anywhere Ptolomy?
  23. Isn't a dog who is getting increasingly frustrated also increasing how much they want the reward  That is NOT what I said. What I said is if that was all you wanted from him i.e. you are happy to have him working at that level and don't want anymore from him, not because he isn't capable but because that's what YOUR goal is, then you don't need to go to the lengths that others go to. However, until you do decide you want more you can hardly sit there and make huge sweeping generalisations about what does and doesn't work and what is and isn't necessary in training. How can you know, when you haven't tried it nor have the same goals as others do in their training?
