  1. Go on Tiggy, the leashes are brilliant! I got mine yesterday and used it at training, it's a great trial leash as it's so light weight but has that grippy strip on it so it's easy to handle. And the purple is very flashy Sent entries off for our first three obedience trials today  Hopefully they are the only ones we will need to send off for CCD
  2. It's not as bad as in the video all year round, but you can always get hair off him. The video was not him at his worst shedding, I'd brushed a lot of it out before hand. He is brushed/washed regularly though probably not as much as some show Sibes who can be washed up to once a week.
  3. I don't expect anything. My dogs aren't trained to guard or in PP work, unless they were, it's really impossible to have any realistic expectations of what they would do
  4. Beagle was going to be either #3 or #4. There is no question about me owning one, it's just a matter of when And if Mr Council man will let me... Go on... if it's not for another 12-18 months we could get one from the same litter
  5. Siberian Husky without a doubt. The other two wouldn't even be close to what a Sibe sheds. Yeah a friend of mine owns 9 dogs, a variety of breeds but the majority are husky and she recons they shed like nothing she has ever owned before. I must say my lab also sheds loads, I am forever vacuuming and sweeping up outside. Daisy my beagle sheds heaps but it's nothing compared to Micha fur! OMG And it's ALL year round too.
  6. Siberian Husky without a doubt. The other two wouldn't even be close to what a Sibe sheds.
  7. How much does my dog shed? I will let this do the talking:
  8. Thanks Kelpiekaye, I want to prove beags can do it just as well as other breeds and we definitely had some jaws on the ground last night :p Go on RS... Beagles are way better than Aussies
  9. Thanks Bedazzled! One of the trainee judges took a huge amount of points off for my hand position so we scored something like 19/40 for heelwork. The other judges disagreed so their scores were much higher. Thanks RS :D I am so proud of her, she worked really well especially considering I revved her up to get into the ring three times before we actually got to go in And that it was one more exercise longer than what we have trained for. Thanks Kath, that is my understanding too. I said that to the judge who questioned it (that I thought it was ok as long as your hands remained in the same position) but she said it wasn't natural.
  10. The reason that was given to me is that it's not a natural position. I am happy to change but it's the most natural position for me and personally I can't see much difference between holding one hand against your stomach with one hand hanging down and holding two hands together. I don't think one way looks more natural than the other but I don't want to go into the ring and get pinged tonnes of points for it. It does appear it's only the minority of judges who would ping you for it though.
  11. Once I fix my handling!! One of the judges who was watching outside of the ring tonight couldn't believe she was only about to trial in CCD and was trying to convince me to go straight into CD - Daisy would be fine but I need the practice LOL!
  12. Thanks Tiggy  I was sooooo nervous!! I can change my hand position if it will be the safer bet, I just hear so many different things. It is a natural position for me and when walking/standing I will often hold my hands in my middle. The other reason I do it is because I am the worst fidgeter and put my hands together so I can hold them still LOL. I would hate to trial and lose a tonne of points for it. Tonight one of the judges pinged me big time for it, the others disagreed though and had we done group stays we would have scored in the mid/high 180s.
  13. A little brag for us tonight: We went to a VERY last minute mock trial tonight (i.e. I only found out about it a few hours before) so I was totally unprepared but really needed the experience (it was a judges training night). It was our first time in a ring under trial conditions, and the first time we've done a run out under a stranger. When we got there I was told three different times that we would be up next so I revved Daisy up three times and got her ready to work then each time something happened that meant we had to wait longer. Then at the last minute they needed one more dog in Novice and I was asked if I could bring Daisy over instead of doing CCD. So I thought meh I know she can work off leash and decided to give it a go. Keeping in mind that we've never done a run out in training where we've done all the novice exercises and I've never done a formal COP.... lol. There were quite a few people watching and unbeknown to me some who were reluctant for Daisy to have a run as they wanted a more experienced dog for the trainee judge. But once they were in the ring they were blown away (probably because they weren't expecting a beagle to work well LOL). We got some great feedback which was good but I am SO proud of Daisy for working so well. She passed every exercise even COP. We lost points for my crappy handling but I can fix that  I needed to do a mock trial so I could know she was capable of it and she is One thing though, one of the trainee judges commented on the way I hold both my hands together against my stomach. She said it wasn't a natural position and would penalise us for it, whereas some of the other judges said it was fine. I'm uploading the vid now for anyone who wants to have a look but I'd really like some feedback on hand position if anyone can help? ETA: Vid is uploaded
  14. Their other three dogs bark all the time, I told him that it doesn't matter what cross he is, the other dogs will teach him to bark because he'll follow their lead.
  15. Now he is saying that he actually planned getting the puppy eight weeks ago - so why did he call me and get him to talk in depth about which breeds would suit his lifestyle??? Why waste my time like that... grrr. I know it's worth it for the people who do take your advice on board and do end up doing the right thing, just frustrating when they don't. Now he's saying he chose the "breed" because it's easy to train, good with kids, doesn't shed and doesn't bark. Argh!
  16. Last night a family meber called me to ask for my advice on buying a dog. They already have three, one with a serious behavioral problem and they have a baby on the way. I asked him why he wanted a dog and what he wanted in a dog and then Spent a reasonable amount of time talkig to him about various breeds etc. He asked me about DDs and pet stores and I told him the risks and issues that come with it. He appeared to take my advice on board. He just posted a picture of a "moodle" puppy he bought from a pet store on facebook. Argh!! It's not anything like why he described to me regarding what he wanted and they really shouldnt be adding another dog to their pack at this time. Why do I bother????
  17. If someone tells me they have an <insert DD name here> I play dumb and ask "Oh, what is that crossed with?" it's funny when someone says they have a spoodle and you ask them what its crossed with, and they tell you a spaniel and a poodle.... I then ask what kind of spaniel - amazingly a lot of them don't know
  18. Go Riv and Tash! That's fantastic - well done!! Hope you got it on video :D
  19. That's our beagle x cocker spaniel, Indi. ;) She's really cute!
  20. Sibes are the best  What kind of dog is your little black one in your sig pic, Haylz?
  21. I couldn't imagine doing it to one of my dogs, but I understand when all avenues are exhausted and and the owner cannot live with or handle the behaviourial problem - however if it was me in the position there is no way I could have just dumped the dog at the vet without knowing what happened to it... I would have been there for it when it was PTS.
  22. Oh no handbags for me are another story, biggest splurge so far being $800. But I use it all the time so it's ok ETA: I got Daisy a beautiful collar from Ruthless Leather, it's the best ever
  23. I must admit I'm not a real leash or collar collector! I have used the same quality leather leashes for years now LOL. I like to buy one quality item and use it forever, there's nothing I like better than a good leather leash I am happy to splurge on something I will have for a long time. The dogs have a training collar each (a martingale) and a leather collar each too. I have two premium leather leashes both 4ft long (one was given to me), one 6ft long leather leash, a 4ft braided leash for trialling and I have a premium cotton trial leash that should arrive shortly but that was given to me as a prize for being a know it all
