  1. I try to train in similar places, Seita. I often walk Daisy down to our local sports field when there are tonnes of people around, several games going on, spectators, kids, other dogs etc. I feel a bit like an idiot and I'm sure some people think I'm nuts but I've also had some really lovely people walk past and say things like "Keep up the great work!" or "You're doing well with her!" or "What a well trained dog, wish mine was like that!" or I hear them commenting to each other about the well trained dog Or, like I got one day I had Micha out, "I've never seen such a well trained husky in my life!" (they must have seen some shocking Sibes!)
  2. Yep, the spatula or have you tried making the soft, wet treats smaller? If I was using the 4legs or chunkers I would cut them into much smaller pieces (into quarters most likely). Daisy will cough up dried treats when we are training too but if I use small enough pieces of soft meat she's fine.
  3. Looking forward to meeting you, AussieVee! Just one month to go today ;)
  4. I wouldn't say they are being over protective. You could try putting them on leash so you can control them a bit more easily, or as others have suggested crate them. I would also work teach them that they cannot greet people before you or get attention from anyone until they are calm and are sitting nicely. When people come over tell them to completely ignore the dogs. You greet the person who comes in the door and allow the dogs to approach them when you say so.
  5. Hope you got it on video, LP!! What a great score!
  6. Wow Seita, congrats on Ella's fantastic trial! I'm not surprised though as she is a pretty amazing girl
  7. Hey Troy, I know Sibes are one of the best breeds ever, but we've already done this thread http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?showtopic=170582
  8. ;) This is going to be the chattiest K9 Force workshop ever ;) Looks like I won't be the only one in the naughty corner then will I Miss Chatterbox Huskie I don't know what you're talking about Maree,
  9. Sounds like typical puppy zoomies My dogs still get the crazy in them and they are all over three years of age! I use the energy to play games and do some fun training, to help teach focus and control.
  10. Things that are soft and smelly - cooked pork or beef sausages (you can get a huge pack from Coles/Woolies quite cheaply - I find the dogs go wilder for it than frankfurt/kabana). If we have left over meat (roast beef/pork/lamb, or chicken, rissoles etc) I often use that too.
  11. She's a sweetie Bindi. You need to post some more pics!!
  12. This is going to be the chattiest K9 Force workshop ever
  13. Hmm, that's certainly not been my experience Than you haven't trained a border collie. I've seen and know Borders who have been trained with correction collars, the outcome and effectiveness is totally dependent on the dog and the handler If the dogs you've trained or have seen trained on correction collars "often shut down or refuse to do the particular thing because they are frightened to do the wrong thing again for fear of another collar check" they are either being trained on a tool that's not appropriate for the dog and/or the handler is not using it properly.
  14. Ruby looks great, RS! What a huge improvement in her heelwork!!
  15. Congrats on everyone's amazing results!! Nik, that sucks!! I would be devastated But what a great result - go Jedi
  16. Yep I'd probably do something similar, if the dog really had no focus or interest I'd end the training session.
  17. RIP Mega, she was a lovely big girl
  18. Don't suppose Chook is a red staffy? I had to rehome my 'Chook' a few months ago as he wasn't so good with my sons friends and cousins, but never believed there could be another dog called 'Chook'!!! Still miss him like crazy! I know its a long-shot that it could be yours, but have my fingers crossed I may get to see him again on the 20th Nov! Sorry to break it to you MsBex, but BC4ME's Chook is a border collie
  19. Only because you chose to in the face of all the explanations here. Balance : "Harmony in the parts of a whole". "To compose or arrange so as to create a state of harmony". Strike a balance : "To make a compromise". Balanced : (of a discussion) "Presenting opposing points of view fairly and without bias" So "balance" doesn't have to mean 50/50. But unless you can accept and see the explanations given, you'll not ever understand that perhaps? I totally agree with this, Erny. To me balanced just means you look at a range of different training methods, not that you apply them all evenly, all the time to each dog. Looking at the definitions above, I can't understand why being balanced could be a bad thing.
  20. no, we have DOL witnesses! Daisy has stolen donuts at DOL meets on more than one occasion
  21. Yes, poor Mish. I found his birthday toy from a few weeks ago hidden in her crate today She must be jealous that I can't take her to get her b'day toy until this weekend
  22. I think we all thought this - I showed my mum the Baby Beagle pictures and she said they were both cute and terrifying ;)
