    Growling

PF is just trying to understand the situation better, MM. When you post on a public forum like DOL, sometimes you will get responses that you don't agree with, such is life No reason to get upset over it.
  2. make sure you do post something Huski ..... its great to watch other people working with their kids. Lexi is my little pocket rocket I loved watching her in your clip! A pocket rocket indeed You might be waiting a while until I film something that I'm not incredibly embarrassed about
  3. Wow Ptolomy Lexi is great! Love all the videos guys, keep them coming I don't have anything particularly worthwhile to add yet but might share something as Daisy's drive training progresses
  4. I find the general guideline of 5 minutes per month of age helpful for some breeds.
  5. What are you feeding him on?
  6. maf101, I am all for early socialisation but I would be very careful about taking her out before she has had her first vaccination. I would wait for eight weeks before taking them out and about - and I would avoid areas were lots of other dogs go like parks and dog beaches. Hope she feels better soon, poor little love. Sounds like you are taking good care of her!
  7. If they like playing with toys I would play tug of war! Trick training is fun too.
  8. Hmm haven't thought of roo meat. Will definitely investigate it! And soaking the vegies in meaty flavours is a great idea too, thanks Leema I probably use half a small handful? Not very many but enough to make a difference if it's fatty and considering Daisy needs to lose weight.
  9. So if you are feeding a RMB you cut some of the meat off? Raw food is definitely very high value for Daisy.
  10. Hmmm, I could try mixing the apple or pear in the container with the cooked meat so it has the juices/smell on it. She loves fruit and that might work to bulk it up with healthy/low fat treats! The last two days I had tiny pieces of cooked pork that I was using as we had a left over pork chop, never again - Daisy has been doing the worst farts I have EVER smelt, obviously pork is a big no no!! ETA: I also don't want to use dried food because it means it is something she has to chew to swallow, it either becomes distracting as she has to stop training to chew, or she swallows it whole and coughs it back up again.
  11. Warls, do you think boiled or steamed chicken would be ok too? Just thinking that chicken is soft and lower in fat than other meats. I don't want to cut her meals down only to bulk her up again with fatty treats.
  12. There are a few reasons why I don't want to use dried food, largely that it isn't as high value for Daisy as meat. I have considered using vegies like pumpkin or carrot cut into little cubes, she will eat anything and that would be good for her diet, but again - not as high value as meat.
  13. Hi everyone Just a quick question to pick the brains of the raw feeders out there! Daisy is getting a bit on the chubby side so I am cutting her daily food intake down - so I need to watch how much I am feeding her including training treats. The thing I am wondering about now is how much food I feed Daisy when we are training. I need to use high value food (so soft cooked meat is usually the winner), I can't use dried food. But because I am cutting her daily meals down, I don't want to feed her too much in treats. I've been using things like kabana, sausage, 4legs food, any left over cooked meat we have (i.e. roast lamb, steak, pork etc). But now I'm wondering if she is getting too much of the "treat" food? They are not things I would feed as part of a normal diet, but she is getting a mixture of the above each day when we do a training session. I only use very small chopped up pieces of food, but I still worry it might be too much. What do all the BARF/raw feeders out there use as training treats? I like to stay away from overly processed treats. Would using things like cooked meat (I often boil chicken to use as treats) and left over meat like I mentioned above be the best 'healthy' alternative for treats?
  14. Yes she's quite useless. I just went over to youtube to try and find a classic Mic Martin clip to link to, but all I could find were fangirly video clips of MM close ups Did you ever see the episode with the two women who owned the beagle called Crumpet? bahahaha, it was a crack up!
  15. I've watched a few episodes of DB Nek - which trainer was it?? That's terrible!
  16. The tricky thing with the escaping is that now he knows how to do it and has been rewarded for it (in that he escapes and gets to play with other dogs) I imagine it will be hard to break him of the habit. We have timber slabs and bricks dug under our fence so that the dogs can't dig out, we're lucky though as none of them have ever been diggers
  17. If he's been on the coach every day for the last five years it's going to be pretty tough on him to learn the new ground rules. He is probably a bit confused as to why you are shouting at him for doing something that he has always been allowed and encouraged to do. Especially if he is a bit of an attention seeker, he sounds like he has found another outlet to get the attention and company he is after.
  18. Could he be a bit bored? If you and your partner are busy with your baby's arrival could you be spending less time with him than normal, and he is looking for stimulation in other ways? I know it must be frustrating, but please remember he's not doing it intentionally. Also... is there a reason he's not desexed? Entire dogs can be more likely feel the urge to wander. If he is a being a serious escape artist and you have addressed the boredom issue you could look into an electric fencing system to encourage him to stop digging. I'm sure some of the posters who are a bit more experienced with containment system could give you some suggestions.
  19. And does Lestat pant away like an idiot? And then come inside and have one side of their body be really hot... why puppies? WHY??
  20. And he is in queensland! I wonder how he would cope down here He curls up into the tiniest little Sibe ball when it's cold, and he smooshes himself into his bed in the corner. He doesn't have a jumper or coat like the other dogs do but sometimes I look at him and swear he looks cold!! I know I know... I'm paranoid And Daisy for some reason, even though she suffers in very hot weather, will 'sun' herself on the deck?? I'm often like - come on now Daisy, there's shade everywhere! Why are you in the sun spot??
  21. Thanks for the clarification WS! I definitely agree a pup won't have it's full coat so won't have the same control over it's body temp as an adult dog would. You should see Micha in winter, he is pathetic Part of me thinks he actually gets cold
  22. If it makes you feel any better Daisy (who is a beagle) on her first day home took herself off into another part of the house and slept in the corner for hours. No interest in her doggy bed, or being near us or the other dogs, she was very independent knew what she wanted from day one! I know that Siberian Huskies can climatise quite easily and have very good control over their body temperature because of their double coat, and this is definitely true with all Sibes I have ever met - but I have no idea of how applicable that is with Samoyeds! Mish loves swimming any time, and likes to lie in cool areas, but he certainly has never over heated. Samoyeds could be different though!!
  23. Wolfsong, that's interesting, I know with Sibes their coats are like insulation and it keeps them cool in summer and warm in winter. I've never heard of a sibe who over heats because of their coat, they have very good control over their body temperature. Mish does better in heat than Daisy who is short coated. Is it different for Sammies because of their longer hair? I am not very Samoyed-savvy LOL ETA: Bindii, being a Spitz breed you might find he will give affection differently to your Puggy. Micha wants to be around me, but he doesn't want to be attached to my side 24/7 if you know what I mean.
  24. I would definitely say it's his breed. Some breeds are more independent than others, especially Spitz breeds. Neither Micha or Daisy were very clingy, on-you-all-the-time dogs, which is actually the way I like it! Velcro dogs are not my cup of tea. In fact as puppies they rarely wanted to be picked up and cuddled, it was just not their style. Even at 6 1/2 years of age, Micha at his cuddliest will sit near me, or if he wants an ear rub he will sometimes put his head in my lap. I wouldn't worry too much, some breeds are more independent and some dogs are more naturally aloof than others
