  1. Oh - I have also fed raw turkey legs, they are HUGE and the dogs go nuts for them - lots of meat on them and pretty cheap too.
  2. My dogs aren't that small but I feed raw turkey wings quite regularly and have never had a problem, the dogs love them

    Dog Treat's

For treats I feed boiled chicken, any left over bits of meat we have cut into small pieces, kabana/sausage, occasionally the 4legs dog food cut into halves etc. But for teeth I just make sure I feed lots of raw meaty bones, chicken frames/wings, lamb necks etc.
  4. There is a Dog Obedience club at Chermside too They also run puppy classes. http://www.metrodogclub.com/
  5. I've only ever seen the vegie oil ones. I normally pour the oil over Cherry's and Shandi's dried food (Cherry gets a tin of sardines once a week or so too).
  6. Same here too - I get the no name ones from Woolworths and they come in packs of 3 - works out quite reasonable. Me too, I also buy the woolies brand tins of mackeral.
  7. You could try a raw/BARF diet? Or Artemis grain free.
  8. Oh that sucks Kyla... I have had problems with Cherry too. She can't stomach red meat. Purcell's also have chicken wing tips for about $2 a kg, I got a huge tray yesterday for just over a dollar. Perfect size for Cherry and the cat Before that there was only one butcher I knew who had them and they came on tiny trays and weren't always in stock.
  9. I find it more economical to make my own - although I have started buying the Dr B's BARF chicken patties for Cherry. Kyla, I went to Purcell's butcher yesterday (on Sandgate Rd in Virginia) and they have beef mince (not pet mince) for $4 a kg and minced chicken offal for a $1-$2 a bag (must have been 1-2kgs a bag). So much cheaper than buying the BARF patties and it doesn't take long to make a mixture up. I was really excited about finding the minced offal as that is going to make it even easier (and less yucky) to make up my own mixture.
  10. My dogs get fish a few times a week
  11. Kelpie-i what an awesome looking dog school! Forget moving to Sydney, we need you in brisbane
  12. I have taken Micha to group obedience class as part of distraction training. But we were also working with a behaviourist, and it was a few months before I felt his focus was at a level where he could work that closely with other dogs. The club I go to has a yellow ribbon policy, you tie a yellow ribbon onto the dog's leash and everyone knows that means that dog needs space. Generally the instructor would point out the yellow ribbon dog to the rest of the class before commencing so that everyone was aware there was a dog that needed a wider berth. I've never had a problem
  13. I think the turkey legs are bigger than Cherry But $1 each - what a bargain! I will have to go to Purcels more often! I paid $5 for two today Cherry will miss out on the turkey legs but it would be funny watching her, she'd give it a real go and would sit there guarding it forever I don't feed pig either, but that's mainly because I've never come across any good raw pork bones - always so much more exxy than lamb, chicken, turkey or beef! ETA: OMG I just went on the Jack Purcell's website. I am so going there this week!! I had no idea how huge they were!!! I'm excited, I just need a bigger freezer
  14. Your very welcome :D And yep I'm a woman It is worth having a read of this FAQ about BARF, it gives you an idea what to feed and in what ration. I feed 80% RMBs and 20% vegies, fruit, offal and extras (like fish and yoghurt). http://www.njboxers.com/faqs.htm http://www.barfworld.com/html/barf_diet/ba..._specific.shtml put your reading glasses on Midol :p My dogs wouldn't eat turtle anyway... (BTW - you should see these turkey legs. They are bigger than lamb shanks! they are huge! the dogs are going to be beside themselves when I give them one )
  15. To give you an idea, I just go to woolies or coles and see what they have! I look for any cheaper off cuts they have, the butcher is great for it too, I regularly buy and feed: - lamb necks - lamb forequarters - lamb shanks - lamb flaps - chicken frames - chicken necks - chicken wings - turkey necks - turkey wings - turkey drumsticks - any beef bones that look nice and meaty Tonight I got beef spare ribs on sale for $3 a packet! the dogs will love them I get my beef mince from Coles (low grade mince) for about $6 a kg and mix in a few kilos of raw blended/pureed or grated vegies like carrot, celery, apple, pear, pumpkin, broccoli etc with offal (usually chicken livers), about 1kg of yoghurt and a few tins of sardines. I feed this a few times a week to get the right ratio of vegies and offal. So far so good I also feed the dogs tinned mackeral or sardines once or twice a week
  16. I've had a couple of glasses of wine so I'm nice and speedy tonight The only RMBs that I don't feed regularly are brisket bones, they aren't meaty enough and whilst they are great to give the dogs something to chew on, they aren't something I would feed as part of a regular diet. Other than that I can't think of any RMBs that I wouldn't feed Some people avoid chicken necks if their dogs aren't chewers, but mine are so I've not had any problems.
  17. LOL huskyheaven, they are all BARF threads anyway!
  18. Not at all! I've never had my Sibe have any bad reactions to meat, I buy what I can and what I think they will enjoy. Today Woolies had a lot of lamb on sale so I bought that and popped a lot in the freezer, they also had these giant turkey legs that the dogs will go nuts over! Is it sad that I get excited about the meat I buy them People I know in other countries like the UK and the US get to buy their dogs lots of gamey meat like Bison, I wish we could get it here!
  19. I was just curious especially for people who feed it every week. Sometimes I feed Cherry some cooked meat scraps (although not so much now she reacts to red meat).
  20. Onslow'smum is there any particular reason you cook the mince?
  21. Aimee, there are loads of goodies you can put into some raw mince to feed regularly. I buy cheap quality (not pet mince) beef mince from the supermarket and mix all pureed raw vegies like pumpkin, celery, carrot, apples, broccoli and then add natural yoghurt, sardines and offal into the mix. I feed BARF so I have to get the right balance of ingredients, and also feed lots of raw meaty bones, but there are lots of things you can mix into a raw mince mixture that you could feed to Ruby along with her dried food ;)
  22. Mine always ate raw meaty bones even when they were eating kibble, so I just changed them over completely to BARF once their dried food ran out. I just go to Coles or Woolies and browse the meat section to see what they have That's where I normally get my lamb necks and forequarters from, and I get the beef mince from Coles as they have a low grade human quality mince for about $6 a kilo. A poultry butcher in my local Westfield has wings and frames cheaper than the supermarkets, so I shop around and know where is the best place to get various meat from. The coles near me often puts more expensive cuts on sale the day or two before they expire, I have been able to get two big pieces of Ossu Bucco for less than $2 - the dogs had it for dinner that night!
  23. Welcome to DOL Martymonty Have you asked your breeder about the pooing and urinating worries you are having? They are always a good place to get initial advice as they know your puppy best. Failing that, I would also take her to the vet and get her checked out and make sure she doesn't have any worms, a bladder infection or other health issues. When it comes to the food, IAMS does have a relatively high grain content compared to other foods so you could consider changing her slowly over to something with a better quality food like Eagle Pack, Artemis or Royal Canin (there are loads of dried food suggestions in the Health forum).
