being on several KC and Ag show committees we have been discussing this subject a lot lately, quite a few people have said they cant afford to take time off work, on a Friday or a Monday to show, so will only do doubles, I know several friends who send their dogs to show wih friends to be shown while they are at work, people are worried they will lose their jobs if they constantly take time off for shows. another is the costs of just getting to and staying a weekend or more is getting far more expensive, I know when I have been away this year I have shared rooms with friends which brngs the costs down, a bit. also the costs of entries which have to rise to keep Kennel clubs & dog sections at Ag shows financially viable we seem to be between a rock and a hard place. We are working on getting better sponsorship for our KC's and local Ag shows to offer better prizes whether that be Cash N Sash or actual Sash N prizes, its getting harder as business's that are also struggling tend not be as forthcoming as they used to be with sponsorship & donations. We are also working on getting a greater variety of Judges, we are trying to get judges whom may only have one or a few groups, and whom have never Judged out in the Western Region, and are willing to travel, we have found that Judges who have never had Judging appointments or only a a couple of appointments seem to attract better entries as exhibitors will give an "unkown" or "new" judge a go another quite common complaint from exhibitors is getting the same Judges over and over for GS's, sorry but it cant be helped, there are only so many All Breeds Judge that can do GS's, so it is inevitable we have repeat appointments for GS's we do try and limit them to one or two groups or officiating GS's only, :D if it wasnt for our smaller KC clubs and Ag shows in our regional areas, as opposed to going to Newcastle, Sydney, or anywhere in the Sydney metro area, a lot of people would never show, or have never taken uo dog showing or Obedience etc,

Not forgetting she has also handled BRTs which are in very short supply .....IMO rare breeds tend to aim "higher" - they often compete against numerically smaller groups of their own (if there is even competition) but then aim to be highly competitive in the group lineup....... I agree I think being in a rare breed makes you work that much harder in presenting a top quality example of the breed, My 3.5 year old BRT girl is a BIG winner , Multiple RUBIG, and class in groups and Shows from Baby through to Aust Bred, she is a great example of her breed, I have had breed specialists go over her, overseas judges go over her and Australian Judges whom have judged overseas and seen and handled/judged numerous examples of the breed, all of whom have complimented her on her excellent bred type, structure, bone, temperament and classic BRT movement its lovely when we have Australian Judges whom have seen them overseas and know what to look for, they more often than not award her well, :D for 3 years it was a bit sad to be the only one in NSW, but now we have quite a few young ones coming through, our two babies I am running on now which are cousins to my older girl, have huge shoes to fill their GR CH sire has 10 X BIS All Breeds, 25+ BIG's etc etc, their imported mum is a BIG winner and so on through their Grandparents, they both are now 7 months old, both multiple classes in group from Baby, Minor , Puppy classes as well as BOB RUBOB'S, and like someone else said they could have been nil awarded, so rare breeds can and do get their GR CH's, it might just take a little longer, mainly for judges to learn and know more about the breed and know that yes these are excellent examples of their breed and put them up, I also show BC's and that can be just as hard to get a GR CH title, lol

Rules On Showing Bitches In Whelp?
Libertybrook replied to Libertybrook's topic in Breeders Community
thanks for the replies guys, we were discussing this rule and other rules the other day, and we were not sure if or when NSW was going to follow DOGSVIC in changing the rules for showing bitches in whelp. it would be nice if all our states CC bodies could have the same rules and regs for everything, it would make life so much easier, and stop a lot of confusion, ;) when people and dogs travel interstate for shows and Royals/ specilaties :D -
Just curious, I thought there was a rule on showing pregnant bitches??? correct me if I'm wrong,
-
We will eventually have a website etc up and running when we do we will post links and details on here and other social network sites our new committee are looking forward to seeing you all at our shows

I think sweeps are great for getting babies used to what happens in the ring, the noises, clapping cheering , barking dogs etc, the moving about the ring, meeting other babies, and getting used to the judge going over them, mouthing them etc, otherwise you only get one chance for only a few minutes in the ring if you only enter their baby breed class. :D
-
woo hoo way to go miss sessy !! congrats ready set go ! thanks for the results guys, sounds like everyone had a great day ! I shall give Yvonne a ring tonight and see how the BC's went
-
does anyone know any results from Cowra Ag show today ?? :D thanks in advance

Hi Troy, that Breed standard you have put up is the old standard, a few things have changed since that one, including heights and tail description, the new one came out in January along with the name change. ;)
-
Also just curious.... with the Ekka starting in a few weeks will there be restrictions on animals eg: horses and dogs... travelling to and from certain areas to the Royal that will/wont be allowed onto the grounds ??? or is it not that contagious ?? unlike the horse flu out break a couple of years ago, that stopped so many horse events from going ahead.

Hi Rain, I know with my babies have clippered off their "baby coat tips" only on their body with a comb attached so as not to go too short,t evens up the length, I didnt clipper their legs or tails, I have lightly scissored their legs & tails, shaved under their necks, shaved their ears and bottoms with a No 10 blade, they have been getting bathed and blow dried since 6 weeks old, I started show grooming at 8 weeks, you can use a coat spray, just remember baby coats can be difficult and tend to be soft, lol, ;) and all over the place so dont expect a baby to look like an adult coat, remember their adult coat can take up to 2+ years to come through properly and hold its shape. some people take their babies in the ring still in full coat, in baby class I dont think it matters too much, but I like to tidy them up and also it gets them used to having all this done so when they are older and bigger and stronger, they wont fidget or even blink when you have fiddle about with them, lol

now I think someone please correct me if Im wrong, the distance for a National specialty is 1000km's, the Distance for a club specialty is 250km's?? or outside the Metropolitan area?
-
hhmmmm so does this mean that all our country dogs who mainly compete at country shows and have to travel hours and 100's kms to get to our LOCAL all breeds shows and often compete against so called "city faces" (and still manage to win mind you ;) ) and manage to get down to the city for "specialties" and win/place, do you class us as petrol Champions ?? still dont understand the motives behind this thread and why was even started :D ;) Quote: LuvmyGSD.... :"The title Australian Champion is very easy to achieve and can be done so (especially in country areas)" and dont think that we are a bunch of easy beats out here in the country either thats a very condescending attitude

I saw a judge non-award several dogs only last weekend, and the judge was very good and explained why,so it does happen, bit hard to place at a specialty, when there are not enough of your breed or breeders in the country to even have a club let alone a show, and up until just recentlly she was the only one of her breed being shown in the last 3 years in NSW, I have travelled interstate for competition, but she is still a BIG, class in show winner etc, under both local and international judges, now thanks to the arrival of new babies from interstate, now we will have 4 or 5 competing on a regular basis in NSW, hopefully ;) the sire of the new babies is GR CH and has had 10 x BIS all breeds, their imported mother is a BIG/RUBIG winner, so under your criteria they would also have to win at specialty level to get their titles ?? and we regularly have the so called big city faces competng out here against us country bumpkins, lol, and they dont always win :D I also show a "common breed", we have had two litters in 10 years, first litter produced a GR CH, 3 CH's, BIS, Multiple BIG's class in show wins at all breeds and specilaty level, class wins and placings at both Sydney and Brisbane Royals, two pups from the recent litter are being shown both nearing their titles, and we show in both the city and country, Country people have no choice to use a lot of PETROL/DIESEL to get to shows, lol

also have patience, lots of patience, some get it really quick others can take a long time and be consistant, always make it a happy fun experience and always try to end on a positive note, five minutes a day is usally all that you need when they are little and in baby class. plus all the ideas everyone else has said I have seen dogs that are big feral clowns up until well into Junior class then one day their brain clicks into gear and wow there is nothing worse than seeing a flat overworked baby who seems disinterested by the time he is in minor class, so keep on smiling and relax and have fun

I have only ever used ultrasounds to confirm pregnancy at 4 weeks, our last one in March last year we could see 4 puppies, we thought great !! she had 8 healthy babies, wouldnt rely on them for numbers, lol a friend had an ultrasound done at 6 weeks, couldnt see anything, then a couple of days before her due date, she had her xrayed because she didnt look quite right and was worried about something going on more sinister it showed one pup who was born by ceasar two days later, fit and healthy

Accommodation In Gulgong For The Mudgee Shows In August
Libertybrook replied to Hunterhound's topic in General Dog Discussion
there is the Gulgong Motel, its not flash but they take dog show people, I dont think the Ten Dollar Motel take dog people anymore but you could try, or you could try the Prince of Wales Pub or the Cenntenial Pub they may take dog people, other than that you will have to try Mudgee, its only 20 minutes or so back to Gulgong, not sure which places will takes dogs anymore though, thanks to previous dog people wearing out their welcome plus its getting harder to find accomodation in the area with all the contractors staying from the mines etc, and yes the Henry Lawson caravan park is usually booked from one year to the next by exhibitors as they are one of the few places that allow dogs. there is camping allowed at the grounds but no power. if I can get a list of places I will post it on here if that helps. -
I have one CH in past Champions and she is well and truly alive, 10 years old but retired from showing she only comes out for veterans classes or for veteran sweepstakes which she loves doing, she has GR CH and CH kids still in the ring and now has Grand kids going around the ring, I have another whom will be on the past CH's list soon, as he is also retired but again only comes out for specialties & veterans etc, so it can be for both alive and passed on dogs !
