  1. did you lose more than one? it wasn't OUR dogs :) it was someone we know ... he only had two ..now he has none .he thought the baits were safe in the laundry ...
  2. Sorry to hear of that Was a diagnosis made ? Could the dogs have eaten something to have that effect ..or had any herbal or other medication ? The first stop would be the breeder of your dogs :) They will be able to fill you in as to what diseases they test for , and if there are incidences oh haemophilia in previous generations . They need to be told anyhow, if you haven't already ...
  3. Yes, it was awful . Dogs were OK at bedtime last night - gone this morning
  4. Ok - if you know about BROMETHALIN - stop reading . I had not heard of it until today when someone lost both their dogs overnight as a result of said dogs eating rat baits in the laundry of their house . BROMETHALIN can cause brain swelling . Ataxia, tremors and seizures are apparently present . In high doses it is fast acting . One of the dogs was Don's father - RIP "Dog" . The lab part of him seems to have been his downfall ...gutsing mouse baits We use the BIG CHEESE baits ..they contain DIFENACOUM , which has a high safety margin . from the B C page : For example, a Rat would need to eat only a small amount of The Big Cheese Difenacoum bait to be fatal, however a dog would need to eat well over 1 kilogram of The Big Cheese Bait.
  5. What a very sad happening poor little ones having such a painful and short life .
  6. if he's still not eating happily ... I would suggest a second opinion . is he drinking/peeing OK now? Did the vet show you how to check for dehydration? Don't change food quickly .. and , until you find out what the problem is , try & avoid extremely fatty/oily foods . A tummy unused to handling even 'normal' food in a decent quantity just needs 'baby' type - simple and plain ...obviously meat has some fat in - that's essential :)
  7. :) glad the vet visit went ok , and hope the painkillers will give you both a good night :)
  8. BBQ chicken is great :) I'm surprised the vet didn'[t suggest something like NUTRIGEL .. it's a tasty paste which can be of help to ill and convalescing animals .... Drinking is more important . make some chicken soup (NO ONION or salt) and see if he'll drink some :) scrambled egg? Nature's gift canned food ...
  9. What a worry for you , sars - no bad back experience here , but hope the vet can be of help - you know the routine ..no jumping or steps , keep her warm ..maybe a wheat pak on her back to relax the muscles ? Oh - and rescue remedy for you both ;)
  10. Grab a cuppa (or 3) and have a read. there is a raw diet to suit EVERYONE in this thread - from simple home recipes to ready made .. :) the pros & cons, and ingredients :) RAW & NATURAL CHITCHAT
  11. "snipers" in helicopters!! They need one decent HUNTER, on foot ,preferably with patience and stealth , a noisy bitch in season ..and the understanding of how these dogs think .... After the trauma these two dogs have endured - why on earth would they pop their heads up to watch a chopper?!! ANY motor noise will send them down a hole very smartly .
  12. not a collapsed trachea , like Westiemum's old Mac had ?
  13. Oh dear - poor little baby - what a worry for everyone . The weight gain is a good thing , even if it is the extra fluid he's received ;) Sending more thoughts ...
  14. Such a happy and thriving family :) Occasionally here a litter of 'yellow dogs' appears , when properties miles from anywhere have a bitch in season- and as they have only bitches, don't worry about cages etc ...
  15. ..and what a shame we didn't know this at the start of the thread i wish you well in your journey .
  16. :) the benefit in professional help!! VIDEO from K9pro
  17. It could well be a very painful tooth or another part of her mouth . I suggest feeding her whatever's easiest for her until you see the vet . poor little girl
  18. here a light and simple vest with glow stripes ....
  19. :) providing the dog has ribs covered nicely and is bright eyed & happy , don't worry . 'Bulked -up' dogs may suffer later on ... Your pup may not ever be large ... individuals in a litter can vary in size and temperament . While that bulky look is fashionable among some owners - the dog will be healthy & happy without excess weight ....and luckily ,dogs don't feel the need to compete in the looks department ! Your dog needs a good balanced diet .Dog roll, plus soft RAW meaty bones, like chicken frames/lamb flaps / beef brisket , plus an egg or two dfor now will help. Change his food gradually to avoid a tummy upset ;) Roo meat IS lean , and is not a balanced meal at all .
  20. While I am so glad you came & got some info and support here , I am sorry you do have such a very ill puppy , and that the 'breeder' is being unhelpful and unsympathetic . please keep us posted , and I am sending more thoughts your way .
  21. Agree. The shorter hairs are spiky. The longer hairs go in drifts. They all shed but differently. and it's those short hairs which stick out at odd angles on contrasting colour clothing ;)
  22. LOL - short coats like pugs& Jack Russell tend to shed heaps, from memory !!
