  1. The only sympton we saw was blood in her urine. She had this 3 months ago, was treated for a bladder infection, and it came back. When we had her urine sample checked this time, the vet said there ws another infection, but there must be a reason as to why she got another so soon, hence the tests and x-rays. The only other thing, in hindsight, was that she had a go at our greyhound Harry on Monday. They are normally the best of friends. The vet said this could have been because she wasn't feeling well, but that's a guess. Maybe she was out of sorts, but we certainly didn't think anything of it. We had a foster dog here for a while, and since he has gone, she's been a bit more bossy of Harry, but nothing serious, and we thought that they were just reaffirming their pack order. In hindsight, though, she could have been feeling off. She certainly seemed fine, played and ate normally, as sooky as ever.
  2. Yes, Felix, I have used flea drops on her, but not all the time. When we bought our house when lived in Charleville, the yard was infested with the buggers! Now mainly use them for summer time to prevent ticks, since I live in a tick area. She's eatnen well tonight, and seems fine. It's scary that it could come back any time, and we wouldn't notice anything. We will be getting her checked every month from now on, hoping it won't come back, even though it probably will at some stage. Thanks for your wishes and I'll be looking at any cancer sites and groups for more info.
  3. Thanks Rappie. I'm pretty sure that's what the vet called the drug. I was in such a daze at the time, it didn't really sink in. Now I can have look for info on it. And thanks, olly, as well. We hope that with treatment it will take a long time to come back, if ever. I was absolutely devastated on Wednesday, but now feel that we will do all we can to keep her well, and keep our fingers crossed! Omwards and upwards!!
  4. Just wanted to know of anyone's experience with bladder cancer. Flash (my gorgeous great dane girl) had a urine sample tested on Tuesday, vet told us to take her in on Wednesday morning with a full bladder for ultra sounds and x-ray, and turned out she had bladder cancer. She was operated on on Wednesday, and came home yesterday. The vet said he got all the cancer, but it usually doesn't get cured, and will probably come back. She will be put on a particular anti-inflammatory drug that works only on bladder cancer cells, suppressing them, and apparently that will help her longevity. I don't even know the name of the drug yet, 'cos I was in shock and trying to deal with the fact that my baby is sick. We're seeing the vet next week again, for removal of stitches, drug supplies and questions we come up with. Any info and advice would be appreciated. Thanks! Jaana
  5. ACDs are great dogs, and a great ACD is an awesome dog. Sorry for your loss.
  6. RIP Bear, you'll be playing with Max until we all get there.
  7. Thanks all. It's hard to believe that he's gone. It must be sooooo much harder for my Mum.
  8. My Mum and Dad's malmute went to the rainbow bridge early hours of Thursday morning. My father is overseas and I got a phone call about 2am on Thursday. Mum said Max was having a fit (he suffered from epilepsy) and could I go around and help her get him into the car so he could go to the vet. When I got there, Max was lying on the driveway towards the back of the house, and he was very still. I thought that he might have died, but then thought that his fit had probably ended, and he was just lying still for a moment as he did after fit. I walked in through the gate, and as soon as I saw Mum, I knew he must have died. It had only just happened and Mum was trying to feel for a heart beat. I tried as well, but he was gone. I rang the vet back to let him know, and both Mum and sat, stunned, just watching Max. I ended up staying with Mum for the night. We just sat up and talked for the rest of the night. This dog was rescued by my parents from a family who had gotten this pup, and then never taught it anything. He became too much of a handful, and was virtually uncontrollable when Mum and Dad took him at the age of 7 months. They taught him, loved him and nursed him through pancreatitis and his epilepsy. He was so much loved by my parents, my brother and his family, and DH and I. R.I.P. Max, we will all miss you forever, and you brought a huge amount of joy and love into our lives. :D We will see you on the other side.
  9. They certainly get to you, don't they. Glad to see that all is well.
  10. Great idea! I love doing crafty things, and the more ideas the better!
  11. I changed to Interceptor for our grey. I was giving ProHeart monthly, and Drontal every 3 months like I do with our great dane, but Harry the hound threw them up. He's been fine on the Interceptor.
  12. I'm trying not laugh out loud at work! Flash has always burped. When she was a pup and we had not had her long, I noticed that halfway through her meal she would sit down, wait a little while, burp, and then continue eating. Now she does it after her meals. She doesn't fart much, and they usually aren't smelly. Harry, on the other hand, doesn't burp, but boy, can he do a smelly fart. He also does the playbow in the morning, and lets one go, and they are soooooo stinky. They both eat the same food, so I'm not sure why one smells and the other doesn't! Jaana
  13. I use them all the time and they are the cheapest I've found. Also, their service is very good and fast. Jaana
  14. Flash and Harry love chicken frames. In the summer, they get them frozen, a chicken icicle! Jaana
