    Feral

Vale Feral... the world's most annoying, pushy, vocal and affectionate cat. I miss you so much already. Can't talk at the moment - will write more when I can see the keyboard through the tears. The end of an era xxxx
  2. Oh no... I have no words other than to say I am so very sorry for your loss.
  3. Ah yes, the old disguise-a-Shiba-as-a-Dingo trick... In 2001 I was at the Royal showing a Shiba bitch - I got BOB with her and a friend of mine, being a smart arse, loudly proclaimed as I got back to my bench with dog & ribbons in tow, "WOW, look at what the baby Dingo won!!!!" Within seconds I was SWAMPED by people wanting to pat a real live Dingo I could have killed my friend - he thought it was hysterical... just wandered off back to his bench and left me to it! :D
  4. In what world could even the most uninitiated dog person think a Yankee baby could be mistaken for a Bulldog????????? Gobsmacked!
  5. Ah, the Royals... they are an endless source of entertainment I remember going to Sydney Royal in the 90's with Border Collies and there was a lovely Border on the bench near us... Mr Joe Public, who had been standing in front of us for a while and was ever so knowledgeable about everything, loudly proclaimed to his kids that "this dog here is a Tartan Terrier"... ...the dog's name, as per his bench sign, was Ch Kennoway Tartan Terror
  6. :p Oh I am so sorry for your loss ST, hugs. What terrific pics, and what a gorgeous girl she was! Run fast and free Jenny, I am sure you will be very much missed.
  7. Amen to that! We see lots of vacc receipts and they vary greatly in price, although the best vet receipt I have personally seen was a client who came in with two small shih tzu X malts, one male, one female, and for desexing each dog & a booster vax was $800 and some odd amount... that's not together, that's EACH!! I can't see any way to justify that, no matter how expensive supplies are. Sorry, OT :D
  8. RIP Sammy So sorry for your loss Pebbles - it never gets any easier does it? He looked like a gorgeous little guy and sounded like a real character. Hugs to you :D
  9. No words can help - but I am so sorry for your loss.

  11. Oh, that face.... Rest well sweet girl. Condolences to all who loved her.
  12. Hi there, Probably not much help to you but we own boarding kennels, and currently have two diabetic dogs on our books (it was three up until a couple of months ago but sadly our oldest diabetic customer recently crossed the Bridge). Dog 1 (who is no longer with us RIP Charlie) did not bring his own diet in with him when he boarded - we just fed him a low-fat biscuit (was usually Advance Weight Control which is our low-fat biccie of choice but did vary very occasionally) and a measured portion of Tucker Time dog roll 12 hourly. This boy was a regular (at least once every 6 - 8 weeks for 2 1/2 years) and we never had any issues with his levels/appetite/general health whilst staying with us - just kept his diet the same each day and at the same time. We miss him, he was gorgeous Dog 2 is a very recently diagnosed diabetic, when she boarded with us for the first time recently she was only 8 weeks post-diagnosis, and they had just managed to get her levels sorted out. She came in on one of the Eukanuba Vet Response Diet biscuits and a measured portion of Tucker Time dog roll 12 hourly. Not sure how much the biccies were but Tucker Time is about $12 retail (i think? haven't bought it retail for a long time). She had a fantastic appetite and was doing really well on that diet. Dog 3 is the bane of our existence - he is a gorgeous dog but we have had more issues with him & his appetite/levels than any other dog - we do take comfort in the fact that it's not just us though, he does the same at home! He is extremely fussy, and his owner has not helped the matter by catering to his whims - although it is a hard call when you are dealing with a dog who needs to eat... you can't really 'wait him out' for too long! He is also a regular visitor, and up until fairly recently was on Hills W/D diet (dry & cans). This has just changed to Eukanuba Wholesome Naturals Turkey & Barley biscuits (as he was not eating the dry W/D at home) and wet W/D cans - however, he flatly refused to eat the W/D cans during his most recent visit last week (and I can't say I blame him - it is vile stuff! Not remotely appetising - doesn't smell, look or feel like meat) So we tried with no W/D & just biccies - wouldn't eat that either After consultation with his vet and trial & error (and eating something one meal but refusing it the next two ) we managed to get him to eat his biccies as long as they had steamed diced chicken tenderloins mixed through it Anyway, I digress a little but I guess what I am trying to say is - there is no way that Hills is the only food that diabetic dogs can eat, and if your vet is telling you that you need a second opinion. Not sure what state you are in, but if you can get hold of Tucker Time that would be something I would be looking at if I was you... it is usually sold in vet clinics and pet shops/stock feeders. They do make a calorie controlled variety (although the diabetics we have board with us are all on normal varieties - but they are not eating it as a sole food either) and it would have to be way cheaper than buying Hills cans from your vet. Here is a link to their website, they do have a store locator thingy Might be worth looking into? Also, as Baifra said, the most important thing is keeping that strict routine up - same food at the same time with an occasional treat is the key I think. FWIW, I think you should seek an opinion from a different vet - maybe one who doesn't necessarily push what he sells/ doesn't stock Hills? Hope that has helped a little, and not confused you more ;) .... best of luck with Matilda and good on you for giving a 'special needs' dog a second chance!
  13. Just saw this - a beautiful tribute to a lovely dog. Rest easy Hottie. Sorry for your loss Borzoimom, it never gets any easier does it?
  14. Run free gorgeous Paddi - you lived a great life :D :p So sorry for your family's loss Kirty
  15. So do you want breeds now? Gave you my prefix already, EDENBRAE (registered but not used since 2001) - has only previously been used for Border Collies; now I have Dogue De Bordeauxs but not planning on using it for them for quite some time yet!! ETA: Great idea Sway, will be a greatly used source I am sure!
  16. Mine is unused for a while now but still registered - EDENBRAE
  17. Hi Bronty, Perfect!! Thanks!! Will save Leigh a lot of hassles
  18. Hiya, Not sure how much help this is going to be to you immediately, but we have been investigating ways to "jump-proof" our 6 ft + high exercise runs at our boarding kennels... so far we have come up with 3 ideas: 1) Completely cover the tops of the runs - we wanted to avoid this if possible and anyways, it's not really practical for a backyard situation at all 2) Angle tops on the fences with cyclone wire between - this does work really well but tricky & time consuming to do to our existing runs as we have used kopper log poles as our posts so modifying those is going to be a pain - might be OK for your fences though - only potential issue is cost 3) Whilst surfing the net we found a link to a product available in the States called Coyote Roller, see here - this is such a fantastic idea IMO, my hubby is going to try and fabricate something similar as apparently this system is not available in OZ. Works by making it impossible for the dog to get a pawhold on the top of the fence to give itself leverage to get over - they just slip off the roller. Works on any height fence too! WIll let you know how we go! This particular project is a little way off though, need to finish several other things on the go at the moment first. Best of luck, sorry I couldn't provide immediate help but some ideas for you to throw around anyway...
  19. We have been using Applecross Vet personally for 15+ years and they are excellent, however the holistic vet we have had recommended to us by several of our boarding clients (we have boarding kennels) is Carolyn Jackson at East Fremantle Vet Clinic - couldn't tell you how much she charges etc as we haven't personally used her but apparently she is very good. Hope that helps, good luck with your kitty!
