  1. ;) I only hope that they allow Jet to be with Page to comfort her in these hard hours. It certainly makes you pause for thought about complaining about the trivial things such as a late train.
  2. Shower - flat floor so waltzes in etc - probably actually a response to the fact he had a shower today for his bath!!! I am with you on the theft swaY - he loves to bolt off with my clothes, especially when I am getting dressed and I have lost track of how many knee highs he has ruined!!!
  3. He is a great dane so he is 24kgs of fun!!! He is being so contrary - I went out for an hour this morning and left him to have free run of the house (as opposed to being confined to one room). I left a pee pad down for him in the usual spot- he did not touch it (not even shredding it which is the fun new game!) but went out into my little side courtyard and did 1s and 2s on the pavers - which I want him to be doing when he has free run so I was very pleased to see that. However, despite the whole house being open as it is over 30 degrees at the moment, he just snuck off and peed on the shower floor!!!! Does anyone have a two year old child they want to swap????
  4. Thanks guys! I am making sure I am asserting my dominance as the scratches down my back get a little painful - he can reach very high!! Little does he know that in about 3 weeks time he will be leaving something behind when he visits the vet! Both testicles have already descended. I have to admit to getting cranky with him a couple of times which I hated doing so cuddles afterwards - I ignore him when I come home, turn my back when he jumps etc, do my things and then acknowledge him etc Right - must be off - I am about to make myself unpopular and give him a bath! Hmmmm...he must have heard that thought cos he just farted.....
  5. Tony - can you expand on what you mean as I am not 100% sure what you are asking? I am doing nothing different to what I have been doing all along
  6. Angus has had a real change in behaviour and I am not sure if it is just a stage???? All of a sudden he is pulling on the lead after 6 weeks of being good - maybe it is because he now has all this confidence and fear has not yet been learned? He is jumping up on me a lot more and even turning my back on him and walking the other way is not working on him. He is turning a deaf ear in the park when called to come despite knowing the command very well. He is still sleeping on his bed on the bedroom floor at night but sneaks on the bed in the middle of the night when I am asleep. I can't tell him off cos of time passed but he is put back on the floor. He has started grabbing me around the wrist and tugging me. He has also started peeing on his night bed if it is left down - I think this is a way of ensuring he is allowed to sleep on the bed - he gets thwarted as I have a back up now! Please tell me this is a stage!!! He is 16 weeks on Monday.
  7. I think it relates to the fact that Hills are owned by Proctor & Gamble or someone else who also make cosmetics in other areas of their business and they test on animals. The issue which everyone had with Eukanuba related to a PETA visit to the testing facility in the states which showed some pretty horrid things. Give Nutrience a try - it is really good value for money.

    Chew Toy Ideas

I have realised that it is not a good idea to give a chew toy which is the same as something you own which you do not want chewed eg shoes! I was advised to give Angus an old t shirt of mine when I left him as it would have my scent and make him feel more secure - yeah well...now he likes to steal my clothes at any given opportunity. I let him chew on the towel I used to bathe him and now I find he runs off with my towel when I am in the shower! I find kongs, iceblocks flavoured with stock and treats etc and pig's ears or trotters great (be sure to reduce food allowance). Angus loves his soft toys (ones which squeak and rattle) and an empty soft drink bottle which makes a horrific noise on wooden floors! Take him to the pet store - he will chose something!
  9. Hi! I asked Angus' trainer this too. The muzzling only works if you are strong enough to hold the puppy. You place a hand at the back of the neck and wrap the other around the muzzle coming from the bottom around. If you hold correctly you will not block their nose or wind pipe. You then need to hold the puppy until it calms right down. If he is still wriggling or pulling and you let him go then you are 'telling' him that if he keeps wriggling etc eventually you will let him go. They will get the idea very quickly. It is now a matter of seconds before Angus goes still - which is good as he is now 22kg!
  10. Hi I got Angus the day off class one or the day before - the trainer told me it was best to wait a week to allow him to settle in and become used to you as the dominant 'dog'. This extra week allows him to become more responsive to you and also any tummy/ bowel upsets from the change in environment have passed. Good Luck! Oh - and congrats on new puppy and good luck for the operation.
  11. Well Angus aka Houdini has done it again...he has learnt to escape from a room with a shut door. I come home to find he has escaped and been sleeping on the bed :D As I had not been expecting this, the result was one pair of pj bottoms on the couch, one thong/ jandal now with breathing holes and teeth marks on another casual shoe and a kong on my pillow! SwaY - you trust the face at your own risk!!
  12. My friend's dog used to do the same thing with Milo's tray - he also used to rummage around in the garden for Milo's and any other neighbour cats' poo - not always easy to stop this one. It is to do with the very high protein content in the cat poo. Only harm is the really smelly breath!
  13. I have half of my backyard as riverstones and Angus (12 wks) frequently chews on them (better than the furniture!) - but they are all large so does not swallow them. Our old German Shepherd used to carry stones around in her mouth constantly which did cause damage to her teeth but I am talking about most of the time (we lived on orchard). You used to know when she had snuck on the bed while you were out as you would find a stone under the pillow!
  14. SwaY - I am with you on the drool one - here it makes a pretty necklace but who could resist this face??? I knew I would get to your request of ading more photos!
  15. I would prefer that than him under the deck chasing frogs with the cat (that was last night) and trying to dig to the bottom of the contained beds - half of my backyard is riverstones which he likes to chew. I also imagine my orchids and gardenias would be shredded! I prefer housework to gardening as the lesser of 2 evils!
  16. I should count myself lucky then! I left Angus in the bathroom for 2 hours on Saturday. Usually he has his own room but the bathroom was cooler and is large too. I opened the door in time to see him coming down the stairs. He had opened the bathroom door (I know it was latched shut), his kong was in his normal room, his greenie was on the couch, he had peed in his room and his teddy bear was on my bed.... Thankfully there had been no further attempts to rearrange the garden! This would indicate that he played houdini soon after I left. The same door handle is on his day room so I just waiting and in preparation - I gate off upstairs and raise chewable things out of reach (heaven forbid leaving the remote behind the cushion!)

    Bathing

    oops posted it twice!

    Bathing

Hi If I have no dog shampoo at hand (usually Aloveen sp??) - I use my Dr Bronner's Natural Castile Soap (currently almond) - used to use this on the spoodle and his coat was beautiful (and never shed I might add!) - I get it from the health store GNC. Spoodle got washed every 10 days or so. Angus - I washed him this weekend for the first time and he is 12 weeks today.
  19. Hi - hope the PPS is going better now! I am midway through our course - it was $100 for 4 hour long sessions. It starts with pass the puppy so they get used to different people, then it is time for the puppies to play for 5 mins, then we work on an obedience task - we are told how to do and it is demonstrated, each puppy then gets 1:1, then it is play time again, then a 2nd task, then play time and then a chat about something like feeding, toileting etc - all very interactive - more of a discussion based on what people are experiencing. All the time the puppies are playing, the trainer is talking, explaining behaviours, answering questions etc. Angus goes home and crashes on the couch!
  20. Not sure how this one will go down... A trainer taught me to 'muzzle' Angus - placing a hand on the back of the head and from below circling his muzzle and holding him until he calms down. This does not block his nose or his trach and is based on dominance. When he calms down he is told he is a good boy - he happily then goes back to what he was doing but without the teeth. In only 2 days there has been a marked reduction in the nipping etc. Now only if I could stop him walking up behind me when I am walkign and nipping me in the inner thigh!
  21. Thanks Yasimum - that sounds perfect for me as I am in Newtown and Angus likes rides in the car! I am familiar with the park as used to take friend's spoodle there - including an unforgettable incident of fishing him out of the canal after he decided to go swimming..... - this was after stopping trips to Centennial Park because of the duck ponds, Sydney Park for the same reason and ditto for Victoria Park at Broadway too!! Funny how deaf they can become suddenly!
  22. Hi I am looking for some recommendations for obedience training in and around inner west Sydney. He finishes puppy preschool in 2 weeks and will then be due for his 3rd vaccination and he is pretty good on commands but I need to be able to have total confidence and control of him due to size. Also - anyone to stay away from? Thx
  23. I am a touch confused - I was told by someone that yoghurt is good for puppies. This was what the breeder also advised me. I was told it was especially good for farting puppies and my wee Angus does this soooo wonderfully It seemed to have helped but then he got a bit loose in his poos. His puppy trainer told me that this was likely to be a reaction to the yoghurt... So I am putting it out to all those experienced - is it good or bad? I otherwise feed Nutrience Dry Food with the intention of adding mince this week.
  24. HI I am having a similar problem with Angus - he will pee outside on command but poos are a different matter - it is as if he does not make the connection for toilet. I tend to keep an eye on him all the time but guarantee the minute I don't he has snuck one in! It is usually when he goes for a drink. As I do not catch him I cannot do the NO and take him outside. He is now up to 15kg so it is a bit hard to keep him on a lead by my side etc I am still having troubles with him peeing on his bed during the day when I am not home and shredding his pee mat but this will improve once he has better bladder control. I have decided not to use a crate. I have just been away from him from Thurs Afternoon to tonight and he has grown sooo much! I was relieved that his training had not been undone - I had left very specific instructions with my friend. I suspect he was left unsupervised in the backyard at some stage as my garden beds have been artistically rearranged (thankfully they are about to be replanted anyway!).
  25. There we are - now I have added an avatar and some photos The top one is taken around Xmas time (he was born 5/11) and the other 2 taken last Wednesday when I got him. The avatar ones was taken on Saturday.
