  1. Okay - who can help here? I would love to have this converted to black & white with the background gotten rid of. I saw some of the earlier posts which keep some of the colour in the pciture - I would love the pink head band to stay. This is my niece Athena who is 4.5 and she dressed up for me and did a dance and song which my sister emailed me (video link is in video forum). Thanks!
  2. Just remember - lamb + dogs = bad farts!
  3. Hey Lee - pop into the dane thread in the Breed Sub forum - someone may know the answer but we would LOVE to see pics of your dane!
  4. Sorry no music with them - could not figure that out - this was first attempt at Youtube!
  5. I agonised over whether to go the IV etc when desexing Angus and in the end opted for the stock standard desexing. I declined the blood tests too but regretted this several months later when he was not very well and had to have full bloods and did not have any benchmark to compare the results to. PS you should come across to the Dane thread in the Breed Specific Forum (under General) - we are the friendliest, less argumentative bunch here and there are some very experienced dane owners there who are always really willing to help. Sway who posted here is one of them!
  6. Good to hear it has gone well! I went through the same dramas with Angus (dane) who had a limp which came and went and seemed to shift but there was no tendereness etc and the vet was telling me OCD etc etc xrays xrays xrays (over $700 quoted) but I turned to dane owners on here for advice and the issue of panocretitis (growing pains) was raised. I was feeding a giant breed specific puppy food but looking at its protein level plus the other food I was giving him it was suggested there was too much protein in his diet. We switched to Eukanuba (23% protein I think compared to over 32%) and kept him quiet for 6-8 weeks. Also started on Ester C on his food. Since then - no problems with limping! Am glad I waited!
  7. How about cooking up a mix of pet mince from Lennards, mixed vegies and rice/pasta - this can be a very cheap options - I could get 4 feeds for Angus out of $7 (using home brand pasta and vegies).
  8. We were at the vets the other day and a dog came out of consultation and was coughing and did a little vomit. The nurse then came out from out back and commented about the cough and the client said - Vet has diagnosed kennel cough. I moved myself across the other side of the room ASAP and the nurse told her to put her dog in her car and come back and pay but she had walked there so had to stand there and pay. After they left, Angus then had to move into the same area. I am keeping an eye on him but he is healthy and fully immunised so fingers crossed.
  9. Try having a toddler running towards an 85kg adult dane and 51kg puppy dane who are playing together (including jumping) and me having to scream - STOP at her - they barely bumped into me at one stage and it caused me to stumble - and I would have outweighed her by a heck of a lot!
  10. Hey PB - have sent you a PM - Sydney Animal Hospital on Erko Road have puppy pre-school and I highly recommend it.
  11. I think the answer to sleepless night varies from puppy to puppy. I was lucky with Angus and we only had a few nights of getting up between 2am and 3pm. We then had a week of 6am starts which saw me carrying him outside as he would get up and pee immediately. Within 2 weeks he was sleeping from around 11pm to 7am. Now (at 10 months) on the weekends I sometimes have to kick him out of bed after 10-11 hours From 9 weeks (when I got him) he was only getting two meals a day - 3 feeds a day is ideal puppy word where we do not have to work (which we do so we can afford to have the puppy!). For the last couple of months he is not overly interested in a morning feed and I am more inclined to use the allocation to stuff a kong or treat toy. If he is tuckered out before bed time then he might sleep longer and as his bladder grows, the middle of the night wake up will gradually get pushed further and further back and he gets through the whole night!
  12. Try popping into the dane thread and asking the question in there - there are some very experienced owners who will be able to give their views and practices specific to the breed.
  13. you give up and laugh as the goofball decides they are capable of stalking pigeons and then race around looking up to watch where they went :D
  14. I can only speak from having a giant breed but have been advised that I should restrict walking Angus on road/ footpath etc for the first 18 months and certainly no running on these surfaces! This is because the growth plates etc are still developing and the impact can cause damage. As a result - Angus' exercise is confined to playing the park and only on the road/ foothpath to get to the park. When I go to Sydney Park (15min walk) I drive down to avoid walking him on the hard surfaces for the 30 mins.
  15. The advice I was given is to you Ester C (I got it from GNC) as it is estervised (sp?) which means it is easily absorbed as oposed to normal vitamin C- I just sprinkle it over Angus' food and noticed a difference quite quickly.
  16. The less poos means the more the dog is using from the food - hence if you feed cheap dry food which has cereal as main ingredient, most of it comes out again as their body does not use it. Whereas if you feed a super premium (like you do with Royal Canin), protein is main ingredient which the dog digests hence less poo. I was cooking Angus a mix of brown rice, frozen vegies and mince (human grade or the pet one from Lennards) adding a stock cube for flavour. I have read that brown rice is better than white. I am wondering about feeding cabbage and whether it has same effect on dogs as humans - wind. A couple of other things I have picked up from this forum: - not adding water to kibble ( I don't do this); and - when adding new foods into the diet, introduce one at a time so you can see if there is any sensitivity - its easier to do it this way than having to work backwards! Good luck with it.
  17. I have had Angus on a restricted diet as he seems very sensitive to any changes and he is now only eating Royal Canin Giant (will slowly reintroduce one food at a time). He farts BAD! He is lucky he is so big that his head is far away from his rear end... Am going to look at the new Royal Canin for Sensitive once he hits 8 months (time to change from Puppy to Junior)
  18. Sardines are popular here too - except the cat won't touch them perhaps because of the oil?? Angus now recognises the tin and gets very excited! I learnt my lesson the other day - do not hide the contents of the tin underneath the mince/ rice/ vegie mix in the food bowl as the boofa stuck his nose in and shovelled it all out so he could reach his precious sardines!
  19. I've read that pumpkin is good for an upset stomach.
  20. I wiped the wall down with white vinegar this morning as an interim measure and then the idiot went and licked it... How does he do it - he rubs along the wall with his mouth open - they are at his head height. I think the second photo might have been from his nails as it was by the skirting board. Thanks for the suggestion. I have Bite Free (same as Aeroguard) here and will try that.
  21. I was told this would confuse Angus but he seems to have picked it up okay. He is 6 months old and I toilet trained him in about 5 days aged 9 weeks. I started out by placing the pad outside and taking him to it when it was toilet time (having already taught him to pee outside) and getting him to pee on it. When I needed him to start using it inside I got him to use it once outside and then brought it inside and left it for him. Once I am home he seems to know that it is the different routine and asks to go outside if the door is closed. This happens even if I have not yet gone into the bathroom and picked up the pad. Hope this helps.
  22. Hi I need something to apply to paint work to stop Angus from chewing the walls - I now have 5 patches. It seems to be a new bad habit - 3 of the marks have happened in the last week. Not good when it is a rental...
  23. I use the pads while Angus is inside during the day - once I am home he knows he goes outside. So...I dispose of the pad everyday. They are pretty absorbent - I find the Masterpet ones the best -the other main brand I see in PetBarn does not really absorb. A friend used to use old towels which would then get a soak and wash. Seemed to work quite well.
  24. Hey! I know it is not Surry Hills but Sydney Animal Hospital in Erskineville runs a puppy pre-school on Wednesday nights - over 4 weeks. All about socialising. Must have had first injection. I believe early socialisation outweighs the risks of parvo especially with dogs which are perceived as dangerous. Kylie the trainer was fantastic! Hopefully you will bring pups down to Sydney Park on weekend afternoons (4pm, the flat area in from the chimney stacks is the most popular) once they are vaccinated. There is always staffies there and it is great for socialising them. Pet Barn in Alexandria (opposite Vic Basement) is a fantastic place for stocking up and the people there are great and very knowledgeable. I am no expert but I know that I would have had a basket case on my hands if I had waited 16 weeks to get Angus out and about. Good Luck!
