  1. Well this is down right sick but I'll say it anyway. If you have a weak stomach do not continue reading! Last week Rafael passed a condom I'm not kidding, whole and intact. Evidently Raf was cleaning up after my brother when I wasn't looking! Needless to say the door to my brother's room is now kept firmly closed and is strictly off limits to puppies! I can't wait til Raf gets over the need to put anything and everything in his mouth. Last week I busted him trying to eat 5cm long frog peigirl...my friend's dog did the exact same thing....and he left me to make the enquiry with the vet about what should be done....this was a spoodle (oops just swore!) turned up a couple of days later but this also meant a couple of days of poo inspection...gee that was a fun job!
  2. That's okay Mu Shu - rest assured that Angus is a perfectly healthy weight (currently 40kg) - some danes can go through a ribby stage while their body's all even out. He eats extremely well - 4 cups of Royal Canin Giant in the morning and 4 cups of mince/ rice/ vegetables for dinner plus added extras during the week.
  3. I introduced my cat to firstly my friend's spoodle who we lived with for 18 months and then to my dane without any dramas at all. The spoodle and the cat were the same size and weight and used to chase each other around the house and roll around together. I found with Angus that Milo treated him gently when he was little (I got him at 9 weeks) and just reinforced his message with a swipe across the nose when needed. Milo thinks there is nothing better than Angus' feet hanging over the side of the couch for a good smooch. IMO - I would be leaving the puppy there alone for the 1-2 hours rather than her going to your parents as otherwise you get a dog which you can never ever leave alone. Good luck with your puppy!
  4. Angus is 6 months and he still squats. My friend's dog squated until he was around 3!
  5. Thanks Becky in Oz. It was an entirely preventable accident which makes me mad. 13 young people (and 1 teacher) with promising futures ahead of them were taken from their families unnecessary when, if people had done their jobs properly, would not happened. Another student was left parapalagic. Dad (through being in forestry) had a lot to do with the Department of Conservation who built the platform and was not surprised the accident happened due to their usual corner and cost cutting. Essentially DOC built a viewing platform which was not securely anchored into the ground and over time it got looser until 28 April when it gave way entirely throwing them all into the dry creek bed. There was a government enquiry but in the end no charges were laid as DOC had immunity from prosecution. One thing I learnt which brought me comfort was the fact that Cathy was good friends with a classmate called Kit. After the accident, we realised we knew Kit too - used to play with him every weekend for several years when I was little as our fathers played cricket together. Cathy and Kit never knew the connection.
  6. Is it the mucus which makes it possible coilitis? Angus does not have the mucus in his.
  7. Today is the 12th anniversary of the day on which my best friend was killed along with 13 others at Cave Creek in NZ. She was just 16 years old and our families had been friends since we were babies. Cathy was such a huge animal lover too. Time has meant that Cathy is not in my thoughts every day and when I do think of her it is usually of the good times such as horse riding with the horse that liked to pig jump, our Mums telling us off constantly for talking until the early hours of the morning and the silly letters we used to write to each other. But today it hurts like mad. I hope no one minds me posting this in Rainbow Bridge given Cathy did not have 4 legs or fur - but her nickname was Alien!! I miss you Cathy. xx
  8. Can I jump in on your thread too?? I was about to post to ask an almost identical question. Angus gets the mushy stinky poos everytime he has a bone and does the stop start thing. He gets feed RC Giant and a mix of rice/mince/chicken/vegetables or fresh puppy mince.
  9. HI Gingerpuff (PS love the name!) I started Angus on Nutrience at recommendation of petstore (all dog fanatics) and Angus went really well on it. However this was only a holding measure until the Royal Canin Giant Puppy came in. I am a big fan of the RC food especially as they have breed specific foods as well as general purpose ones. I pay $105 for a massive big sack. His coat is healthy, his weight gain is gradual and he is also in great condition. He loves it too! My cat has RC too and is in beautiful condition.
  10. Turns out from a PM to Vilsen that this was not the same supplier who advertises here that I was not happy with. Placed an order, product not available so got personal email saying will possibly be back in the next week, I emailed asking for an alternate product - no reply, ended up having to go and buy it from the shop as was about to run out, emailed saying I need to cancel order - ever got the courtesy of a reply. I should add that I had paid for this order too via online CC - have not actually checked the card holders statement - assume was not charged!
  11. I suspect Angus will eat anything given to him but he has spat green beans out! FYI - the best thing to bind and upset tummy is rice, chicken and pumpkin mixed together.
  12. Angus had had hisnfirst injection when I got him at 9 weeks (at 6 weeks), he got the second at 10 weeks and the next at 14 weeks - every 4 weeks. This was the usual C3, C4 and C5. Just speak with the vets - they will clear it up for you!
  13. I am not too different from Bruno06. Angus is a 5.5 month Dane who is 34kg and grows about 2 kg a week. I feed Angus a real mixture. For his breakfast he gets Royal Canin Giant Puppy kibble. For dinner most of the week he gets a mix of rice, home made and pureed vegetable soup, human grade mince (or blade steak or chicken), sardines and a little bit of chicken stock. Other nights he gets his kibble with sardines (great for coat) or puppy mince or a whole raw egg (I leave this whole with a tiny crack to get his interest going) He gets a pig's ear during the day and a couple of his toys have either a few pieces of kibble in it or some dried chicken breast along with peanut butter. I found he threw up after brisket bones and he just breathed chicken wings in! Yoghurt on kibble is a really good idea too - it can help with the farts!
  14. Hi! I am not an expert but you could try carrying a water pistol with a little lemon juice in it and give him a squirt when he bites - that way too it seems like it is coming from somewhere else and not directly from you!
  15. I have read that you can buy special bowls or place objects in the food bowl so that the dog has to eat around them which slows them down. I think there has been a thread previously but otherwise speak to your pet shop.
  16. There are some sprays etc which you can buy from the pet store specifically for this purpose - I think some are citronella based.
  17. I experienced this problem with Angus too but I did not use a crate. He had blankets etc on a trampoline bed (daytime bed). He would pee on it and then would also sleep on it so I ended up with smelly pup! Yesterday I discovered that the cat has taken to peeing on his daytime bed and he was still sleeping on it!
  18. Thanks swaY - I think he has been chewing a lot more in the last week - the main object of his attention is the training pee pads which is down while I am at work! Any question - do you walk Sway on a short lead or a longer one? I have just switched to a short one with a padded collar as he is being a bit headstrong with the leaping pounce - mind you the puppy trainer is here for a session tomorrow and that it on top of the list!
  19. Good Evening Angus is now 18 weeks old and seems to be going through some teething - is it normal to have a bit of bleeding as the new teeth come through? I cannot really tell in the mouth as he has dark gums and the jowls however there are blood spots on the stringray toy I got him today which he has been chewing. Thanks!
  20. I have been told you realise they have started to fall out when you stand on one in the middle of the night in the dark kitchen!
  21. Hi Tree That's distressing to hear about your Angus. I hope it is something short term - you'll have to PM the kennel... I think $500 does not sound too bad - I was speaking to the 2 guys from Bondi who have the massive Harli Danes and they told me to get insurance very early on as one xray alone will cost several hundred dollars because of size and drugs. Was it you or Sas that told me that there is a great vet at Homebush for Danes? Good Luck and keep us posted.
  22. To the little angel that we did not know but who managed to touch so many lives with her courage and maturity - I hope you have now found your peace. To Paige's family - my deepest condolences. I am glad that you have Jet to provide you with some comfort at this time. Sarah x
  23. Thanks for keeping us updated Amber - I imagine that it is not easy for you to sit in front of the computer and post an update - putting something down in black and white makes it all that more 'real'. I am so glad to hear that Paige can spend her last days in an environment she is comfortable in and surrounded by the most important people to her rather than strangers and machines. It seems that Paige will be well looked out for on the other side and I hope this brings her parents some comfort at this time. xx
  24. Have a water pistol or small spray bottle somewhere on you, when they jump they get a spray in the face (even add a little lemon juice into it) - this way too the "punishment" is not coming from you (such as being told off) - it took about 4-5 goes with Angus and he soon got the message and now he does not jump. I found the worst time was when I came home at night after being at work - I used to leave the bottle outside the front door so I was prepared. He would get sprayed and would go sit on the couch for a minute then come over to me calmly.
  25. I read something recently that the anxiety can be due to the overload on the senses - all the sights etc whizzing past - the solution was to put the dog on the floor behind the passenger seat where they can see you but not everything around - use their favourite mat there for security too.
