  1. Where did I say there was no unwanted pups, kitten, or adults or cross breeds in the pounds?? Sorry but a lot are strays off the street, most with details that are not up to day so owners can not be contacted.. And the problem is too many animals..
  2. This is what I see the petition asking for...
  3. That might be why most dogs are surrendered but this is not the case for surrendered cats and kittens.. I have two mum cats here and they have 11 kittens between them now if they were not fostered then that would be at least 11 kittens that would have been euthansied and maybe the two mum cats as well.. Multipule that with the amount of kittens and pregnant cats that end up in pounds and shelters every year and you would have thousands and thousands of cats and kittens being euthanised.
  4. I am all for desexing of pets. I think what we have to remember is that most of us here on DOL are responsible pet owners and don't allow our pets to breed will nilly because we are educated on being a responsible pet owner.. I think that desexing should be made cheaper for those that can not afford it as for them it is very simple to surrender unwanted kittens and pups to pounds and shelters and I agree that desexing animals would reduce the number of animals being euthanised every year, especially with regards to kittens..
  5. I didn't get my numbers will be taking my ozshow confirmation with me.. Also can not find the printout of the address, can someone tell me please... How many in the toy group? I thought it would be an early show day..
  6. This really pees me off... I am so over reading about how pure breds are so full of health problems... No one is collecting data on cross bred dogs and recording their findings on their health problems...
  7. It is a story that the media have blown way out of proportion, not that that is a surprise...
  8. Well done, Pep and Chloe... Can't wait to see more, and hope we can be there cheering you both on...
  9. Sitting here in tears thinking about the thousands of dogs and cats that end up just like Sam..
  10. Mine as well. You are truely blessed to have such a wonderful friend.. What a wonderful gift to cherish forever..
  11. One little kitten passed away on Sunday in my hands on the way to the vet, I am so sorry you had to suffer and I didn't get you to the vet on time... I made the desicion to have his little sister PTS, she was losing weight and was going down hill, I did not want her to suffer like her brother did.. The vet took her from me to give her the needle and I could hear her crying, I so wanted to yell out stop but I didn't, the vet brought her back to me and I held her until she took her last breath.. I feel so bad I have never had to make this decision before and it is so hard to come to terms with that I a desicion I made ended a life... Run free you two little ones I am so sorry that you did not make it.. I will do my best to make sure your brothers and sister make it..
  12. I used the first few letters of my girls names, my prefix is Mocharli, for Molly, Charlotte and Lily, you do something similar with your lab's names..
  13. Isn't that always the way with children and pets, when you think they can't do something they come right out and show you that they can... Chloe has done such a great job training Peppi, with support from you.. So when and where is their first trial???
  14. Hi.. I hope someone can help, I am after one of this grooming boxes but iI want it in light pink. I have seen it in the light pink at a dog show recently but I can't seem to find where to buy it from.. I have found it in the hot pink colour but it is not the pink I want... https://www.petcetera.com.au/index.php?l=pr...etail&p=858
  15. He should be charged as well.. So heartbreaking, what those poor dogs went through....
  16. My Miss Charlotte is a licker, one of her nicknames is Licky.. She tends to lick my husband, children and visitors more then me, only because I know when she is about to come in for the lick and I say No Lick.. She also licks the other 3 cavaliers faces all the time, it is like she just wants to mother them and keep them clean...
  17. It is the oldies I am always drawn to, I am off to the pound this morning and I will stop and spend a little bit more time with the oldies...
  18. My Miss Charlotte does this, but my other 3 girls don't.. Hi Renae, You could contact the cavalier club of NSW rescue co-ordinator.. They recently helped me rehome a male cavalier I rescued from the pound and he know has a wonderful new owner.. I know what you mean by making sure that your cavalier goes into a great home and after talking to the cavalier club i felt very confident that this home was perfect for him.. He has been gone now for 3 weeks and his new owner is so wrapt with him.. http://www.cavalierclubnsw.com/rescue.html
  19. The puppy farmers are only going to give them glossy websites, not photos to the realities of puppy farms. Ok maybe i worded it wrong, I meant that there is a lot of websites out there telling the public about the evils of puppy farms, and information that the public can use when looking for a pup so they don't end up with a puppy farm pup.. I don't think you worded it poorly Miss Molly, I'd sugest most people reading this knew what you meant. There is plenty of info out there if the general public cared to know, or wanted to know, many don't. I don't think many people want to know.. I recently did a animal companion course with a class of around 30 people, one of the students did a presentation on puppy farms, (mind you now i call them puppy factories as farms makes most people think of rolling hills etc), most of the class didn't know about puppy factories and sadly most did not want to know, some would say oh will never buy a pet from a pet shop, but they would still shop in that pet shop for other things, one reason was the pet shop was just down the road and the nearest one that didn't sell pets was further away.. A girl I knew brought a pup from a pet shop, I told her all about puppy factories etc, sadly her pup was killed and guess what she went and brought two more pups from a pet shop. Even though she knew i attended dog shows, knew how to find her a great breeder etc she wanted them then and now, people like that you can't teach..
  20. So what exactly will these 'shows' entail? I've read that all dogs will have to be examined by a veterinary surgeon prior to 'exhibition' (very time consuming) and that the general public will be much more involved than they are at ANKC shows, but other than that everything appears to be very vague. Other than testing for working ability (possible, but will be difficult and once again extremely time consuming at an all breeds show) and ensuring that every dog can do the job for which it was originally bred (even more difficult as some of those jobs no longer exist) I cannot begin to imagine how one of your 'shows' is going to be conducted or what is going to be required of the exhibits. Ok off topic but how can every dog be examined by a vet? Now most shows have hundreds of entries, you would quite a few vets on hand and what time would the exhibitors be expected to arrive at the show so they have plenty of time to have their dog/s checked.. When I was a gel (well, babe in arms) all exhibits were vet checked prior to the commencement of the show. There weren't as many entries then either, but it did take some time, so we all arrived early. In season bitches were not allowed to be exhibited, incidentally. The system was abandoned because it too so long to vet check all the entries. Perhaps if the mdba exhibitions don't have many entries, it will be feasible? Particularly if it begins at 7am or something. Still OT, I must walk around with blinders on at dog shows as I don't recall seeing sick and injured dogs begin shown... I know a few people that have absentee their dog/bitch because she or he seems a bit off colour.. Just last weekend a exhibitor absentee her dog because the dog seemed to have a sore back.. Others have left dogs at home because they have been unwell, so how many sick dogs are really been shown??
