  1. I haven't been back to the start of the thread (sorry) and I'm only familiar with NSW procedures, but is the pup microchipped or registered? Do you need to have a change of ownership form ready for the owners to sign, or a stat dec type thing to say that they are relinquishing ownership to you? Better to be prepared now than try to chase them down for it later, if it's needed. Good luck! Lucky puppy having you to look out for him!
  2. It's a great park most of the time, just like anywhere most people and their dogs are wonderful but there's the odd one or two to look out for. If you join the pack between 5-6pm on weekdays you'll be fine for hard play, or a bit earlier or later for gentler socialising. It's big enough that your dog, if it has good recall, won't need to be jumped all over. There's mainly big dogs, but there's a lovely JRT who joins in with Stevie and the Goldies for fun, and a couple of Pugs who are complete clowns.
  3. He's there during the day, and if the white van/truck is there and a bloke with up to a dozen Dals, don't go in. He will probably warn you off anyway. If he is putting them back into the van, be very sure the doors are shut before you go too close. He's been going there for some years now so if you haven't run into him you probably won't. I have found the guy with two dominant GSDs and the video camera filming other people and their kids much more threatening! The 5.30 crowd are not the scariest crew at this park!
  4. FOUND I don't know the whole story but he's been found in a factory not far from where he was last seen. Has been fed and locked up each night 'for safety' by someone who thought they'd call the RSPCA maybe tomorrow... but Bailey's with his owners now, and getting care for his bite wounds. Yay Petsearch for great posters, and thanks DOLers for all the positive thoughts and good wishes!
  5. Good luck folks. He sounds like a strong, resourceful, independent lad, but still he's a dog and should have companionship. Best wishes - if this was happening in Sydney I'd be there with Stevie, she'd play him out! Putting my safety hat on, please check footwear, first aid kit, and phone batteries. And get a photo of the boy for us all if possible?
  6. I don't know the owners, but there is a photo on the Petsearch website and he looks just like a miniature Lassie dog to me! Hopefully this is one breed that can't be mistaken, can it? I guess he could look very different after living rough for a couple of days, poor boy.
  7. Oh that's great Lee, I am glad they called you. Let me know if you need anything done locally, or at Fairford Road. Thanks everyone else for spreading the word, too. I know that local knowledge about the pound system isn't fantastic, so the more eyes and ears looking out for a new adult Sheltie turning up, the better. I remember a story about a puppy being found because someone saw the neighbour playing with it.
  8. Thanks, I was just about to Bump this but you already have! No word of Bailey being found yet. I've suggested his owners talk to PetSearch. I don't know the owners, but I do know the woman who was taking him to the park and she's devastated. If anyone here knows 'the Dalmatian guy' who regularly goes to this park with a large pack of dogs, I'd like to hear his side of the story. I've only heard bad things so far.
  9. A Shetland Sheepdog has run off in a panic from the Karne Street park gate - please PM me if you see him. His collar has come off. He's been missing for eight hours now. Last seen heading through the playing fields towards Bonds Road. Might be Roselands, Riverwood, Punchbowl, Canterbury Road, Narwee, Beverley Hills. Vets and pounds have been notified. Many thanks
  10. Based on my dad's experience of swimming into a dam to rescue his dog that was going to drown from exhaustion chasing a duck, I'd say the JRT.
  11. Warning - don't look at any of the video (or even the list) of 'similar' which I did by accident. It's a very sick world out there
  12. If your dogs are crate trained you can hire from www.vebopet.com.au. If they can't be crated inside then I also wouldn't want to leave them in a place with insecure fencing.
  13. ? There are more people breaking the law than following it, if that were the case. Many people don't have 15 metres length of dwelling space in Sydney? I'm confused. I have two of my own dogs and sometimes two fosters - should they not be allowed to sleep in the house?
  14. Stevie has a hard lump on her hock. X-ray has shown it's not a nasty (we've had some sleepless nights waiting to do the xray) but an osteo-condo-something. Where maybe a bad knock has pushed a bit of cartilage? She's on cartrophen(?) injections for a few weeks and another xray in six months to be safe. Can anyone point me to a good simple website and diagram that might explain this to me? I was so overwhelmed by the good news, none of the details sank in. It was a busy day - looks like my foster boy may have found the perfect home. Just this morning I thought I might be losing my beautiful girl to bone cancer and keeping an old foster who had no enquiries and might be staying forever!
  15. I'm still removing the weeds that Don recommended in his facts sheets 20 years ago - stupid palm trees...
  16. New member of our extended family has white markings and a pink nose. He is going to be part of an active young family and spend a lot of time outdoors, camping and at the beach. Any recommendations for sun protection?
  17. Thinking of you every day Jed. Hope you're allowed some therapeutic dog cuddling. My Jodie thinks her kisses can fix anything, from yeasty Lab ears to silly girly tears. Pink skin needs gentle massage, doesn't it?
  18. I'm trying to find options for a newly dog owning family in Dundas (north Parramatta) area. They've had a one-on-one session to learn some basics with their new Lab, but want to find a good regular socialisation and training group. He's not a pup and very keen to learn (for food of course, being a Lab ) Any recommendations?
  19. I'm worried because I found a dog poo in our yard PACKED with chewed up leather strips and I can't find anything missing! I don't even know which dog it was!
  20. bleh double post I'll use this space by asking Sezy if you're local too? I'd love to meet your dogs (and you of course!). We go to Karne Street and Gannons regularly as well!
  21. I was thinking of you when I posted this Kozpink. Good luck! We're fortunate that there are a couple of Councillors (especially a long-termer, ex Deputy Mayor) who really love their dogs, and the General Manager has an animal loving (cat rescue) family. Also the local Mayor is also a State MP who likes to Open and Announce things!! There's also a bit of competition with the adjoining councils, so we're pretty well catered for in this corner. It's not the perfect dog-friendly area, but moving along...
  22. There's a new fenced (double-gated) leash-free park near Wiggs Road/Moxon Road, Riverwood/Punchbowl/Bankstown - in the Canterbury Council area. There are poo bins but no water yet, and some of the residential fencing backing onto it is a little dodgy for a determined escapee, but it's large and has trees and even an old BBQ area, and just the other side of the fence is a newer BBQ and seating. Quite close to the M5 for people coming from the south who need to stretch their dog's legs, before hitting Sydney's gridlock. Called 'Craig Street Reserve' but entry is off Kylie Parade. THANK YOU CANTERBURY COUNCIL!
  23. That's odd, I'm sure first post here says $15 and when I went to the website last week it was $15 including 10% GST. Now the website's showing $20 including 0% GST? I don't mind what the final cost is because it's a good cause, but it's confusing, especially as I wanted ten of them. There's a big difference between $150 plus postage, and $200 + $20 GST + postage.
