  1. flickr, picasa and photobucket depending on what I want to do with them
  2. I love the second image on your patio Ruthless
  3. Nah, just think of the clouds as one great big light diffuser
  4. Overcast days are the best. We LOVE them. ( Either an overcast day or that very early morning or late afternoon light for shooting )
  5. I might have missed the model of camera you have. Some have a function called 'AI Servo' - If you use this function, when you half press the shutter button the focus adjusts with moving subjects so you don't have to keep re-focusing as they move around.
  6. thanks Luke, I did understand that part. can you please explain it to my whippets with the 3/4 I just started shooting when I saw her start to move. they are so quick, and you dont know where they'll go, it's like trying to photograph a blow fly! If I didn't have so much other stuff to train - I'd like to teach my dog to run across my field of view... hmmm.... Maybe put my dog in a stay....put a treat about 20m away...move into position, release him to get his treat... dog--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------treat ---------------------------------------camera------------------------------------------------- Wouldn't it be nice if you could train dogs to run in a nice even arc around you?
  7. was that shopbot mob the ones you got the refund from? I'd be wary of them if that's the case. I've had a read up of the lens. it sounds really cheap, plasticky. May I ask how much your 1.4 cost. There seems to be a huge price difference from what I've seen. Is there so much of a difference in quality and ability? Shopbot are the price comparison website... the name of the place with BAD service is quikshop.com.au BUT they are no longer listed at shopbot. Cameras direct is listed at shopbot though. I have learnt my lesson. If I use shopbot now I am going to call someone everytime and also do an online search for reviews about the stores BEFORE I purchase. My partner is looking at an apple macbook through shopbot also... all good if you play it safe. The 1.8 is a bit 'plasticky' but well worth it if you don't have alot to spend. The 1.4 was around $520 through camerasdirect.com.au . As I said, they were brilliant Ordered one day, delivered the next and they have over the counter pick up if you happen to be on the Gold Coast. We have used them twice now and very happy.
  8. http://www.shopbot.com.au/p-32489.html $119 is the cheapest. Although I give a HUGE thumbs up to camerasdirect.com.au I just got my 50mm 1.4 lens from them. Ordered it on Monday and had it on Tuesday morning.
  9. Have you asked if it can be salvaged? My old old old hard drive was salvaged recently and is now in this new computer that I am on right now.
  10. I'll give it a go this time around It will give me motivation to try and make my little street out the front look interesting. People who are into macro can find so many things out the front of their house to photograph too. It's the reason I suggested really broard subjects because within them there are sooo many things people could shoot.
  11. Yep. The boss was breathing down my neck about doing some work but when I've finished I'll post some. Most are our of focus as Ronin was trying his hardest to work out how to get to the ducks without having to swim and this involved him running up and down the creek bank and stopping to point every now and then. He had a great time and the ducks were perfectly safe swimming around in deeper water. here are a couple of them. Sooo many here to go through. I love the coloured reflections in this one This photo shows off his incredible hindquarter muscle tone. He was launching himself through the water. Pretty amazing muscle tone considering he has been crated the last few weeks due to injury so he is now out of condition.
  12. Ruthless. I just went for a session with my boy this morning. With two photographers and one dog in a decent area we still struggled. Okay, we got some great photos but it was hard work. Ronin was a little too interested in the duck and hunting the area trying to find more.
  13. Seeing as how the last one was a bit harder, maybe this one could be a bit more 'accessible'. What does everyone think of 1. Out the front of my house 2. People 3. Communication These topics are really broard so it might help to get a few extra submissions?
  14. Sway - just noticed you are adding breeds... thought you could do with these extras Wysiwyg - Golden Retrievers Sagapore - English Setters, Cocker Spaniels, English Springer Spaniels, Jack Russell Terriers (she hasn't bred a Springer or JRT litter for some time but it would still pop up in pedigrees here and there). Waratah - Jack Russell Terrier, Cocker Spaniel, Whippet
  15. here's a few for you Breilla (me) Sagapore (my mum) Wysiwyg (my sister) Waratah (My brother and grandfather)
  16. We have lightroom 1.4 and it is a must for us. It allows us to quickly work on photos and tweak them all in one go whether they are in RAW or JPG format. From there we can easily decide if we wish to go further with the PS work. Camera RAW converter in PS is great if you only want to do a few photos at a time but LR is great as a workhorse (for those who are editing a LOT of photos). :p
  17. object 2 - disc (any sort of 'disc' object)
  18. Great work with the perfume luke I completely appreciate how tedious that job would have been. Excellent result
  19. They can't and they wouldn't. But apparently it would have meant overriding the computer after the price change. I have worked for a manufacturer and in retail and totally understand why they would want to avoid doing an override. Lens is here and it is great
  20. Both of these images have had the same PS treatment. Canon 30D 28-135mm lens All natural light girl standing - f6.3 1/60th iso 800 girl sitting - 6.3 1/40th iso 800 PS treatment (as well as I can remember) Trees trunks filled in to eliminate background. This was done using the clone tool (varying sizes) set to an edge softness of around 50. I carefully selected areas of existing trunk to fill in the spaces. Removal of sheet from under the sitting girl Removal of the more distracting leaves 'antique' affect as explained in another thread was used. Colour layer boosting the red and yellow in the shadows, hue/saturation layer clicked to 'colourise' with a hue of 25 and a saturation of 25. Hue/Sat layer is then faded to allow some of the underlying colour to start coming through. Using layer masks over the colour AND the hue/saturation layers, I brought back the girl a little more so she had more colour in her than the surroundings. Used 'high pass'/'soft light' to ever so slightly sharpen the girl. Added contrast in curves layer Burnt in the vignette Used ' midnight ' action in nik efex - removed layer to about 50%, and off the girl completely so it is only effecting the background. last but not least - layer of diffuse glow that is massively pumped, then using a layer mask I paint over it to control exactly where I want the glow (which is the tree trunk and the girl's wings but nowhere else). Sounds like alot but only really takes about 10 minutes per image. I usually don't PS to that extreme but I was wanting a certain dreamy look to the images. before pics
  21. As it says, post your after and before images here. Put the AFTER photo first, THEN the BEFORE photo. Give details on what/how you shot it, then give details of the PP work you did (no matter how major or minor). Stuff like this can help other people see sometimes just how little effort can go into making a photo pop or simply show others some incredible PS techniques that they may like to try on their own images. I'll be back to post one a bit later.
