Has anyone been in contact with Warragul? I got in contact with Southern about their herding and they no longer to herding. Looks like Warragul may be the go.

Congrat on your pass. I know the feeling. I was at Southern on Sunday 87 points and pass in the morning and NQ in the afternoon, dropped on the sit stay. All we needed was ONE MORE pass and she laid down on the job!!!!!!!!

Hi Everyone, Just asking for everyone's help here please. My dog has been put on a diet that is low in protein. I have been able to find foods low in protein but seem to be higher in fat. Which she does not need at all. I was wondering if everyone could look at their dog food (dry) and tell me what the percenage of fat and protein to save me some leg work!!! Thanks

The sheep are good to work on as you see if a dog can really work or if they just chase the sheep. I can post if one comes up for you if you like. They have pups from 4 months start working the sheep so I am sure you will fine!!!

I have entered AM & PM on Sunday ( 6th July). Good luck to all those who entered on both days!!! -
We do have workshops that run all weekend and are run by a guy that runs a farm with 10,000 odd sheep. Not sure when the next one is though. The sheep used in Elmore are a lot big that the ones that 4 paws use and more stubborn. Making your dog work a lot harder. Bigger areas to work the sheep in too.

That is a bummer about your day at Broadmeadows. I think you either had a good day or a bad day. The weather was just shocking. Lucky for me though my girl did well at we finished first in our CCD ring. Better luck next time though. Their was a lot of dog mucking up that day. -
The herding at Elmore is run by the koolie club or australia. If you jump on their forum you will be able to get the info on the next session (I believe it is Saturday week, starting at 8.30am) http://koolie.net/exons/index.php?

I never knew those two clubs did herding training. Elmore is up near Bendigo and takes about 2 hours from Melbourne. It is $20.00 per person every second weekend. I will have to look into the other two clubs though. ETA: Anyone with a australian working breed dog can attend. ie: Border Collie, kelpie, Koolie, Cattle dog or crosses

I have too done a workshop with 4 paws. It is just a pitty they don't do training too. I do my herding training with the Koolie club in Elmore. My dogs love it too

Training Class For Aggressive Dogs
RachelleBuck replied to sas's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I agree with wolfgirl. I would be willing to give it a go. Libby has improved in leaps and bounds with her DA but still has issues with shepard type dogs. It is worse when on lead. I think in the right conditions this could really pay off. Keep me posted, it is an interesting topic. -
Thanks for your help guys. They have never had worms before that I have seen and I have always followed it to the day when to worm them. I was just worried it may give them an upset tummy thanks
-
This is going to sound like a really silly question but anyway........ Can you over worm your dogs? I give my dogs worming tablets that you are suppose to give them every three months. Well anyway OH wormed the dogs thinking they needed doing last month for some reason, then this morning I wormed them again (when they were due). He never mentioned that he had wormed them and as I buy the large 100 bottles I never noticed the tablets missing. He walked in just as I was giving the last dog her last tablet informing me he had done them last month. Are the going to be OK?? I am really worried out them being "over wormed" if that is possible. Any help would be great!!! Thanks

Well these are not my puppies, but my inlaws. I fell like they are partly mine though as it has been hard work to get TWO Elkhounds. They are so cute at the moment We are getting a female and the male I would say at the moment their fav things to do are sleep and eat. Eight weeks till puppy breath comes home. http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?show...32201&st=75 -
Joining Obedience, Which Dog?
RachelleBuck replied to rexiam's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
My cousin trains one of my dogs for me. She is 5 now and while he only sees her a couple of time a week he loves her like his own and she loves working for him. I think more than anything obedience is great to get a dog out and socialising with other dogs. As long as you not expecting the dog to become a UDX dog over night it might be good to take your Dad's dog out just for some interaction. Kelpies love getting out and about. -
I have a black dog one too and they are great. I had an old style bum bag but eveything falls out of it and it was always folding over on its self. I found that the glad snap lock bags in the sandwich size fits in the black dog bags just great and if I don't use all my treats I just reseal the bag and pop it back in the fridge. A lot cheaper than the black dog liners too.

Heeling Footwork

With walking in a straight line I was told to pick a point in the distance and walk to it. Makes you a lot straighter and the dog and you are not fighting each other to walk in a nice heal. Other than that I was told that smaller steps are best and not to walk too fast. I hope that helps some!!! Good luck I know what you are going though and I do the exercises without the dog too, helps me without mucking the dog up. -
Yep that is correct you can enter both trials. Also a point my mum missed when reading her rule book is to make sure you have 3 passes from at least 2 differant judges. she ended up having to do another trial to get her pass!!! Good Luck with your passes!!!!

Calming A Highly Strung Dog
RachelleBuck replied to RachelleBuck's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Thanks everyone for your help. I have been training Libby in drive when doing obedience. IE: do what you are told and you get the toy to play with, only problem is the toy makes her even more excited. So I have switched to food and get her focus that way. It works a lot better with her. We train very calmly too when needed. Libby can not walk down our stress without barking none stop. It is like she is just so excited to get to the park. When she barks I stop, when she is quite I walk and so on and so on. Taking me 15 minutes to walk a 2 minute walk. But she is getting the picture. I am sure that I am not perfect but I am not that bad either. I will keep working with her. I breed her and I will work though her problems with her. After all she is my little girl -

Kelpie-i I think you may of hit the nail on the head here. When you hold Libby you can feel her heart going at a million miles an hour in her chest, she pants like mad and her eyes look evil. She doesn't drink much but when she does it is only a little lick even after exercise. She gets herself so worked up she will snap at other dogs and even sometimes she will redirect onto me. I have been trying everything to see what works. I have thought about chlomicalm but tried to stay away from it till last. I had a staffy with a brain tumor on chlomicalm and it turned her into a zombie and I don't want that for Libby. As i have another KooliexBC and a Koolie I know what working dogs are like, other than the staffy I mentioned above we have only ever had working dogs. The other two only work when told to, Kelli did the herding workshop at 4 paws a couple of weeks ago and it was mentioned to me about how calm of a worker she is, she is Libby's mother. So I think that is why I am at such a loss as to what to try next with Libby. i will try and get my hands on a copy of that book, and do you know where I could get that test done if possible??? thanks everyone for your help -

Arya, thanks for your advise. I have tried this before but you just make her worse. Everything needs to be calm with Libby but I may give another shot to check. Thanks everyone for you suggestions I will take them to my behaviourist as other opions and see what he says, Thanks rachelle
