Good Afternoon Everyone, I am after some help for a friend of mine. Long story short, she has just become a single mum of 2 small children with a limited income and also 2 dogs, a Lab and a Staffy. The dogs have been feed Science Diet but this is now just too expensive. She has asked me of ideas of a dry food that is a fair bit cheaper but not just rubbish. I have suggest raw but as she said she really does not have the time or freezer space to do this. If anyone has any suggestions I could pass on that would be a big help. Thanks

Ohhh my!!! What a horrible situation!! Have you popped this up in the Koolie form and on the Koolie page on DOL ??? Tell Kerrie I will post a box of stuff upto her first thing tomorrow. Towels, etc. I have been banned from fostering Koolie's, my little man was a dog I was fostering for Kerrie and he has never left!! I had a problem like this with my dogs and our neighbours. Neighbours dogs would bark all day at the fence, at my dogs, at me, at anything. I was going INSANE as my dogs get in trouble for barking and my neighbour was letting her two dogs bark for hours on end without a word. These are not the type of neighbours you can go and have a chat to about their dogs barking either. So I ask my vet and she recommended Skunk Shot Gel. http://www.reptilez.co.nz/skunk-shot-gel-repellent/ Used a very small amount in spots along the bottom of the fence and on the ground and kept my dogs out of the back yard for a couple of days. The smell is so bad to dogs they stay away. The dogs next door learnt very quickly and now don't come near the fence. Best thing ever! And now no barking dogs!!!

Yep that was them!! Dad ran her for me as I just get so frustrated with her being dog aggressive, besides she listens to Poppy so much better than me!! LOL Nothing at all wrong with a Rotty!!! And I really think that as long as you train your dog to run correctly with the bike and they have a good fitness level they will pass there ET with no issues. Libby was our 7th dog to get her ET in the last 3 years, with thankfully no fails along the way!! Good luck to all those still to go. Hardest part for me was dealing with the bottom end pain while riding!!!

Congrats to you and Orlando, Murve!! I have a funny feeling you and Orlando where running behind my Dad and my little girl. They were R9, I think Libby also passed her ET with flying colours. Sent the paperwork off to the VCA yesterday. When her title comes back she will be Gunyah LibbyLou HT ET!!! Not bad for a dog that is DA!!!

My little girl in entered this coming Saturday in her ET. I wont be running her though, my dad is going to do it for me. Best of luck to all of those people who have entered their ET's.

It is with a very heavy heart that I inform everyone that on Monday 11th October 2010 my mum, Donna, PTS her baby Kathleen. Kathleen was 7 years young. Kathleen was a very loved family member of the Buckley house hold and everyone that knew Kathleen and Mum knew that worked great as a team. Thanks to everyone for their well wishes. I WANT TO MEET OTHER ELKIE OWNERS!!!!! WAAAAAHHHHHH Just wanted to pop in and brag, ohhh I mean tell everyone, that Milla and Viking started herding training last Saturday. OMG they were like pros!!! Even gave the Border Collies a bit of a run for their money!! We are entered for our herding intinct certificates on Sunday so fingers crossed they work as well as they did on Saturday!! Will post pictures when I get home. Also got some video of it, just need to work out youtube!!

I am a member at Werribee and have found them very helpful with my DA Border Collie. They let you use what training equipment you like and don't have a one eyed view on things. Also they accept any breed.

Hey Leopuppy, Silly question but how long do you think it will take me to get there from Werribee??? Our break up at the club is the night before and I wont as much sleep after that as I can get

QUESTIONS 1. What is my relationship with the breed? (ie breeder, first time owner etc) My inlaws have owned Elkies for almost 20 years. With the 2 they have at the moment we are in a part ownership agreement. They house them and daily exercise them, I obedience train them and groom them. 2. Where and why was the breed first developed? I think everyone else has answered this question really well so I wont go into it. 3. How common is it in Australia? Not very. Can not say I have ever ran into another Elkie in the street. When we saw them being show at the Pet and Animal Expo a couple of years ago we almost fell over ourselfs. 4. What is the average lifespan? As everyone has said 12 to 15 years. They inlaws did have a girl, Jenny, that lived till 17 but also lost one of their last ones at 9 years. 5. What is the general temperament/personality? 6. How much daily exercise is needed for the average adult? They enjoy a walk of about 1 hour a day but if you miss a day they are not too stressed. They more enjoy getting out a sniffing the world than the walk itself. 7. Is it a breed that a first time dog owner could easily cope with? They really are a wash and wear dog from what I have seen of them. Ours are great with kids and just take what ever life throws at them. Really reccommend training them in obedience a bit though 8. Can solo dogs of this breed easily occupy themselves for long periods? Yes. As long as they have a bed to sleep in they are happy. 9. How much grooming is required? Not much. It is really only at the end of winter that they require a fair bit of grooming. But there coat clumps and can be pulled out. 10. Is it too boisterous for very small children or for infirm people (unless the dog is well trained)? If you let them walk all over you they will. They are gentle with kids though. 11. Are there any common hereditary problems a puppy buyer should be aware of? Not that we have come across 12. When buying a puppy, what are the things you should ask of the breeder? (eg what health tests have been done (if applicable) and what is an acceptable result to those tests so the buyer has an idea of what the result should be) To look at the paperwork of the sir and dam. See the registration papers of pup and see that the breeder is registered with the ANKC.
