I've never even heard of a Catahoula Leopard Dog. Had to google it to know what you were talking about.

I believe Royal Canin have a product specifically for German Shepherds - one for GSD puppies up to 15 months, then you go on to the adult GSD food.

Does The Council Put Down Dogs Within A Few Days?
GSD FAN replied to Outkast1972's topic in General Dog Discussion
Some people are just thick! I would never leave an animal there to teach it a lesson. It's obviously the fault of the owner for not securing the property so they cant get out! And if its anything like here in adelaide, where the animals council collect end up in the animal welfare league - keeping a dog where the pen could be used to house an animal which does not have an owner really upsets me. They are not boarding kennels. -
I have previously tried sasha's blend but it didnt work for my dog. she kept injuring her back legs when we were playing or sometimes even when just walking. I was put onto the Vets All Natural Joint Formula by a staff member at PetStock - and I must say it's amazing. My 10 year od GSD is now like a puppy. No more limping and when we play I get tired before she does. TRY IT!!!! They also have a website. It has some different ingredients so well worth looking into!

Not sure but try adelaide Plains Vet. They do quite a bit of work on feet and toes as they get alot of greyhounds needing surgery on their feet.

A Big Thumbs Up To Pets Universe, Northgate, Sa

I know one of the vets there. used to work for him - not a very nice man to work with. But the rest of the staff that I have met through another job were always lovely when I entered the clinic -
I just wish I knew more about what this dog failed in the test.

When my 'baby' passes I think I will get one or two, or maybe look into the fostering. Until then I'll just have to dream!

Mt vet nurse friend works at the Walkerville Vet Clinic. Have you tried them???
-
Yeh, I imagine with some loving, some good food and a comfy couch they would 'fatten' up nicely!!

I had never ginve greyhounds a second thought as a pet but after meeting some sweet, gorgeous ones I would love to have one one day. I like the look of those that have a little more meat on them. I have one of them at my work. It barely resembles a greyhound but has the same personality. Actually she's a bit cheeky.

yeh I love greys too. Having gotten to know the breed recently through work they really are a great dog

I contacted the owner to ask if they'd tried rehoming through Gap SA and here's the response I got: Yes I have he didn't pass the intial small animal test and as so is not suitable for their program! I have socialized him with other dogs and he is fine with short haired dogs I've tested up to small stuffy size and he doesn't bother with them! I've tried several rescue places and none will take a greyhound! So if he's not rehomed by Saturday I'll have to put him down as I need the kennel and that is why I'm trying by advertising her and in the advertiser It's quite sad as I think this person has tried to do the right thing, alot of greyhound owners just go straight the the vet for the 'green dream'.

I had an adult cat when I got my German Shepherd. My pup wasn't the problem, the cat was. He didnt want to share the house with a dog. Now they are kept separately - for the dog's safety.

Hi all, Just saw this ad for a giveaway greyhound.

With your grooming experience I would recommend approaching vet clinics and asking if they need a groomer. once you have your foot in the door you could ask for some casual work to get some vet nursing experience. Alternatively ask local clinics if they need a kennel hand, it wont be full time work but is a foot in the door. I am in the animal industry in SA and still havent found an animal related job I enjoy. However, I have signed up with Pet Sitters Australia and we are currently trying to get the word out about our new service in Adelaide (previously only serviced Sydney). Hopefully we will get some bookings with it leading up to Christmas. Check out the website at www.petsitaus.com.au or check out the facebook page. What's great is when you join you also do a pet first aid training course. Email Kerry if you are interested or PM me for more info. Good Luck with your search.

Oh my goodness. It breaks my heart. I work with greyhounds and am so falling in live with the breed. They have some unusual characteristics such as the bouncing thing and turning around in circles when you go to feed them. They are very interesting dogs that are so easy to love!

Piper - the herding would be good to see if you get the chance to do it! I can't wait it'll be my first. -
Great work on the caravan! Looks super dog friendly now!!!

I always used Fido's shampoo on my grooming dogs unless they had a skin complaint. As long as they are washed and dried thoroughly they will smell clean. A spray with a nice doggy cologne is always nice - i recommend ooh la la.

First Post, Appreciate Advice On Becoming A Trainer

I thought the course was a good introduction to dog training but don't feel as though I could start my own dog training business tomorrow though. I think further practical experience with a dog training group would be the best way to go. It is good for those who work in professions such as grooming or vet nursing as you can put some of the practical skills to use, inform clients of the basics of training, and can understand better why dogs do what they do. I was less than impressed when I took my dog to the 2nd training block, as I was humiliated by more than one instructor (wont mention names) when they used me and my timid dog as a 'what not to do' example. I took my dog to the course to better understand her and how to help her but it didnt work that way. I also rarely got to bring her out of the kennels for practical work. -

I did the course, liked some of it but other parts I didnt -
I also recently did the cert 4 course in SA but I only did my first year. I decided that although I really wanted the qualification, that I couldn't do another year of it because it was so full on. I thought it was a great course though with lots of rostered work in the TAFE clinic. ALthough I am still in the industry I am working in a lower level position because there was things I didnt' enjoy doing as a vet nurse, and while it suits me at the moment I am looking for something more fulfilling.
