  1. sounds pretty normal to me, my boy would do 10 minute bursts at that age then sleep for hours before the next burst.
  2. Nala is home looking very sore and sorry, but happy to be home. She had a quiet night in her crate and has had her first short walk this morning. fingers crossed she continues to improve. the vet did say she also has some arthritis in her knee, but sh should make a good recovery and that the cartilidge was fine.
  3. thanks Lucknow, just hoping it all goes smoothly and she recovers quickly, she hates being by herself and will miss being around them, she gets quite depressed.
  4. Nala is booked in for thursday to have a TTA done, vet things she has ruptured her cruciate, but maybe not completely torn yet. fingers crossed for a full and speedy recovery please and lots of healing vibes
  5. He will learn to use both just as happily very quickly. my pup has one downstairs under the house and one in my room and no problems, he loves his crates. But be careful with him on stairs they are not good for growing puppies, so I would be carrying him up and down for a while and when you do teach him to use them make sure he never runs up and down, but is always walking calmly on them.
  6. Sorry cheques have not been cashed as yet. If you would like to PM me your names I will confirm receipt. or you can email me on [email protected] I believe DOL will be down tomorrow for maintenance but will reply to all PM's sunday
  7. Thanks everyone it sounds like most people get really good results
  8. wow what a nightmare, poor Hugo I hope he is feeling better soon he has really been through the ringer. It is good to hear the good and the bad and I will be watching Nala like a hawk as I'm going to hopefully work from home most of the first couple of weeks.
  9. Thanks guys really appreciate knowning that it can work out, your guys all sound like it was worth every penny. Thankfully we have insurance, and even if we didn't I still do it if there is hope she will be back to her happy self. Lab Lady, I also have a puppy (7month old) bullmastiff who is very rough and a st bernard who thinks he is a puppy in short bursts, so keeping the boys seperate from her will be a must. Hopefully we will see the pecialist this week or early next week and know where we go from there. I think they will go with the TPLO surgery but we will see what they say. I don't think the de Angelis method would hold.
  10. Looks like Nala my bullmastiff x DDB will need this surgery and and I'm after other peoples stoies and experience with large dogs and their recovery.
  11. Huski I have a grate you can borrow if Daisy fit ok. It is the one Odin arrived from NZ in. I will bring to training monday night to try if you like.
  12. Wow, really? We have dogs around here that bark half the night! so do we, we have a lab out the back of our house that barks nearly all night on friday nights, I'm sure the family must go out or something.
  13. thanks for all the info guys I will pass it on, the lass who owns the dog, has just moved house this week and will be getting a second opinion from a new vet. unfortunately I do not have any further details as to type of cloating issue or exact diagnosis or how they came to the diagnosis. the superlorin sounds like the best way to go all round with a lot less risk to the bitch.
  14. not sure in NSW but here in Qld they are allowed 6 minutes in an hour during daylight and 3 minutes in a half hour during dark, I would imagine it would be much the same in NSW.
  15. thanks all for the info, so will the superloin stop her having season or just prevent pregnacy?
  16. Is it possible to desex a bitch who suffers from the blood clotting disease Hemophilia? A friends bitch has Hemophilia and the vet wont even discuss trying to desex her. this lady has 2 male dogs also, one is a show dog and under breeders contract not to be desexed and the other has been desexed. the neighbour also has entire dogs and she is worried for the bitch and wants to have her desexed. She is an adult bitch who has had several seasons and breeding from her is not an options or desired. anyone ever had to do this or know of a bitch with this condition who has undergone desexing.
  17. Kate when I lived in HB the obedience club there was great, I even had my pug at trial stage. It has been a long time but they are definately a good place to start. The contact person ATM I believe is not the best idea of the club itself from my currant knowledge of the club so best to rock up and check it out on a training night, they do both show and obedience or at least they did when I went there. they have great facilities and reasonabley price too from memory. good luck I hope chase is more motivated than Odin is as he is way too laid back and unlike Nala is really independant which is making it hard to find what works for him as Nala would walk over hot coals if I asked it of her, whereas he has his own ideas of what he wants to do. Also I highly recommend a trip to Brissy on the 3/9 to see Steve cortney at Metro he is brilliant check out the thread on DOL definatley worth the trip down and you are more then welcome to stay here the night if you need accommodation.
  18. I'm no vet, but when I first got Mega she suffered from dry eye and had drops and creams from the vet. We started her and garlic horse radish and vitamin c tablets and changed over to bathing the eye in cooled black or green tea. Her eyes improved and she had no symptoms from it with this treatment. After a month or so we reduced the bathing down to weekly and she never had a problem. this has just been my experience.
  19. Thanks as much as I had prepared for this day, and knew it would hurt like hell, he was just such a special boy and I just feel so empty.
  20. Today we had to make the hardest and easiest decision. Caesar has gone down hill so fast and unfortunately loving them can't fix some things. But the time had long come to set you free from pain and illness. the good days had gone and you were ready and I had to man up and be kind. While my heart is breaking at my lose, he is finally at peace and free from illness that has plaqued him for too long. He was a beautiful naughty adolescent when he came to me and wormed his way into my family's hearts, he loved his family both skin and fur and was just a brilliant teacher for Nala and he took her under his paw and look out for her even as a small puppy he adored her, she will miss him as much as we do. He loved to snuggle up on the couch or bed with you or lay out in the sun while you worked in the yard. Sleep easy my big boy, run free and happy at the bridge and know that you have a piece of our hearts with you always.
  21. does anyone know when the show training is starting up for 2011. I need heaps of training
  22. this guy is weird, he and his family have been away for 4 weeks, the kids and wife are due back in a week or so I think. they had a lovely guy looking after the house and animals, they also have chooks. He left the minute that this guy arrived home from the airport. It was weird, no cuppa or anything just he are your keys bye. He has been out and about mowing his yard and coming and going and not once has he said hello. It took me today wishing him a merry xmas and happy new year to start conversation which always seems so force. but I try to be polite and keep communication open, after this I wonder why.
