  1. I've always loved the idea of passing down bedding to my new dogs. Poochie's favourite wooden box which we made for her as a puppy still has her teeth marks around the corners from when she was teething. She shared it with Zeus when he was a puppy and since she's been gone, Zeus still loves to squeeze in it even though he's really too big. It now belongs to Kirah but is still shared by her and Zeus -- it's a way for me to keep my darling Poochie near. I still have her collars and her very last toy -- it's almost brand new but I can't part with it yet, nor can I give it to Zeus and Kirah to destroy.
  2. The only problem with BSL is that a "law" is not going to come charging in and stop a dog from attacking. A dog regardless of size, gender, weight, age, breed, colour etc can attack at any time whether or not a BSL has been put in place. It is such a horrible thing to have happened to this woman and her dogs. RIP little woofa; sorry your life ended so tragically.
  3. What breed are they Pav? Looking very guilty for helping dig to China!!
  4. I guess I look at it that two dogs, one person is a common sight but add more dogs and it becomes less common. Of course people will comment -- it's the same as the stares and comments my mum got whenever she took us 5 kids out by herself. Her hands were full but she loved every minute of it!! :D
  5. Oh wow that's so gorgeous!! I wish my cat had a temperament like that not hiss and spit at the dogs
  6. Not that it helps you out, but my little Kirah has taken to sleeping under her hammock bed to keep cool!
  7. That's like watching Bugs Bunny fake his death in his cartoons: "oh, you got me!"
  8. Well said Snook. I've no experience in any of these situations so have no advice to give. My thoughts are with you and poor Lottie.
  9. I went through the same thing when I lost my beloved Poochie -- all of us here have experienced it. I was looking into another Aussie Terrier before Poochie was PTS, but I wasn't expecting the wave of grief to be as bad as it was. Devastated is putting it mildly. A prospective two litters of Aussies came about late May/early June, but as Poochie was PTS on April 24th, I wasn't sure I was ready. I met with the breeder anyway and her two bitches who were due around August, but unfortunately, one girl reabsorbed the puppies and the other only delivered one living pup, who was to go to a show home. I saw it as Poochie looking out for me and fate saying I wasn't ready. Kirah came home a year later and I couldn't be happier. It did take a while to bond, she's just not Poochie, but she has the quirks and breed traits that I love and they're part of what made Poochie who she was. So as much as I love Poochie, and miss her, I love Aussies too much to let my grief get in the way of owning another. I think the best thing to do is ask yourself what it was that you loved so much about your Amstaff girl. Was it her personality and breed traits that you loved (along with everything else about her) because if so, then you love the breed as much as you loved your girl. If you find you love the breed, then another Amstaff will be in your future. I'm sorry to hear about your girl; it's never easy losing a loved one.
  10. I usually joke with my friend over her dog who buries bones -- I call it 'marinating' the bones! My two never bury bones and when visiting my friend's dog, they unbury the bones!!
  11. I'm really praying for darling little Orange's safe return. Only such low-life scum would think about breaking into a vet clinic and stealing a sick puppy. I do fear for her outcome though seeing as she's been desexed and is of no puppy farming prospects now.
  12. That was a pretty presumptuous comment regarding tinned food. I can't say for certain but I'd be willing to bet that close to 90% of users on this forum do NOT feed tinned food so it's quite a silly thing to have assumed. No help on the carpet though -- always only ever had outside dogs!
  13. I've also used hotdogs without the skin. I pull the skin off and cut them into cubes. Haven't tried chicken as a training treat as I feel it would be too flaky
  14. And that's the perfect example of why I will NEVER leave my dogs tied up outside a store -- except for maybe a fish n chip place where I can see them. Zeus would most likely follow anyone holding his lead and Kirah would probably follow Zeus. Kirah is a little clingy to me personally though so might not go with a stranger but at 6.1 kilos she'd be an easier steal than Buckie. I'm even more reluctant to leave Zeus out, especially after I've had offers from complete strangers to buy him.
  15. The problem isn't only saving "a couple of dollars" kiesha09. I own two dogs, both on Advantix, and one uses the small dog tubes and the other the medium dog and it is VERY costly. When using the correct doseges fortnightly for ticks the costs do add up, however, I wouldn't risk my pets' health for the sake of saving any money. I live in a high tick area and would rather know my dogs are getting the full benefits of the treatment. You can't put a cost on a dog's life.
  16. Congrats on your new puppy Laraine -- we definitely need pictures!! I should think that Milly will eventually lighten up and 5 months is still young regarding coats. Kirah, my Aussie Terrier, didn't get a lot of her tan colouring until after 6 months. There is a Silky Terrier thread in the Breed Sub-Forums: Australian Silky Terrier Forum. Head in there and post away; they're a very knowledgeable bunch!!! :D
  17. That's just wrong in so many ways that I can't find the words. I hope that a professional psychiatrist sees this and offers her some help. It does scream as a form of post-natal depression if she's feeling less of a mother because her own children couldn't be breast fed.
  18. Oh whoops. I associated the Xolo with Weasels' post. My bad!

  20. Isn't that a picture of a Peruvian Hairless Dog?
  21. I know but can't post an image due to iPadness
  22. I'm so sorry to hear about your beloved Cal. It sounds like he left very peacefully with everyone he loved most around him. RIP darling boy. May you be at peace now.
  23. Yep that's the best way. When Kirah was a puppy I set up the playpen in the garage as she's an outside dog. When supervised she was outside running around and playing with Zeus. When not supervised and sleeping she was inside the pen. The pen was quiet time not play time.
  24. I too have heard that leaning on people can be a sign of dominance, rather like sitting on a person's feet. Kirah used to try and sit on my feet all the time but this behaviour has now stopped. In regards to leaning, both Zeus and Kirah love to lean up against the sides of my house. They cock their legs to the side and sit on their bums leaning against the bricks (like riding side saddle). Zeus loves the bricks on cooler days as he'll find a spot in the sun so the bricks are warm. I also have a suspicion that it could be a learned behaviour. Poochie was a leaner, which I believe Zeus learned through watching her, who has in turn passed this on to Kirah. I like to believe this as I feel that whenever I see them both leaning that there's a part of my beloved Poochie still around! :)
