  1. A friend of mine was asked what breed she had by a lady when she told her they were Bernese Mountain Dogs the lady said 'Oh ...I used to breed them' Oh sure she did thats why she didnt know what they were I went to someones house who proudly introduced me to their lovely Alaskan Malamute....... it was 100% Siberian Husky but I didn't burst their bubble
  2. I have one but i use it on ME! My friend got me one from the dogshow store in America I think it was $25 US. It is SO nice and just glides through hair (mine ha aha)
  3. I just bought some liquid canasten (tincture) chemist said will dry quickly and dog cant lick it off (I made sure and tell him is for dogs feet not me )
  4. One of my dogs seems to chew her front feet (mainly) between the pads...I beileve it seems common after rain (I read somewhere that the salt on the wet grass irritates some dogs feet?!) She didnt do it until a few months ago. I went away with her last week and there had been no rain there for ages and no chewing until last few days at home when it rained again. I usually wash in Malaseb a few times a week and will try the tinea cream too is that right in this situation settrlvr? Not trying to hijack thread...I use EP holistic too
  5. My first show 7 yrs ago the breeder didnt tell me how to show my dog...just a vague 'run to where the judge says and get her to stand while the judge goes over her' Also another person in my breeds male pee'd on my leg LUCKY I brought other pants to change in to ....was not impressed! It was a St Bernard breeder and Malamute breeder who gave me the best grooming and handling advice (thanks guys!) Good Luck at your first show!!!!!
  6. Yeeees poor Sugs. Shes been the perfect child until now She sneezed her packing out about half an hour ago by the time I got to the crate it was half out ....says a lot for giant strawberry noses and the force of their sneezes.... so far ok.
  7. No he couldnt find the exact spot. He said if he had to operate to find it they would go thru the roof of her mouth or her muzzle. Its shit, I hope it just stops.
  8. My 3 year old usually healthy girl had a MASSIVE nose bleed at 4 am this morning. My house looked like there had been a murder and she managed to get it in every room even the shower! I had heard her snuffing and licking but thought one of the dogs was licking their feet. After a bit I got up and saw my poor love covered in blood. I tried to stop it with pressure and ice, it would clot then she would snuff out the clot and it would go again, I rang my vet after 30 mins and said I cant stop it. Soooooo at 5.15 this morning he had to give her a General Anaesthetic to look up her nostril (only one bleeding, not a clotting disorder as vWD Clear and clotted fine, Packed Cells ok on Blood test was 44), we initially had it stopped at the vet but as soon as I put her back in the car to go home she snotted it out again so GA it was. The vet saw no foreign body, no wound and had to tightly stuff a big ribbon gauze in her nose which needs to stay for 3 days. It appeared to be bleeding from higher up than he could see. I called her breeder (a vet nurse in Vic) who alled her boss who thinks it might have been a leech (apparently they bleed like stuck pigs when the leech detatches) Do we even have leeches in SA? Yesterday about 3 pm she had a tiny trickle of blood from her nose (same side) but it stopped spontaneously. SHe had just been playing with a piece of dry leafy stick that my feral puppy had pulled off a tree so I assumed was a poke in the nose. She hasnt hit her head or played rough with anyone lately. This is freaking me out any ideas?
  9. Good Luck on Monday! It will be intersting to read of your progress I hope all works out :p
  10. My friends dog (SBT) had demodex and the vet said it cant hurt to wash the pimply bits in Malaseb to stop them getting infected but not really necessary. Not sure what other think about this? She was given Cydetin orally and all cleared up in about 6 weeks. Just routine Advocate now each month. Hope Im one of the 4 out of 5 without mites in my brows :p
  11. Hi Thanks for the website, as you said its rather interesting just goes to prove that we do have some poorly rated dog food over here in Oz. Eagle Pack seems to be the best rated, Ive made a phone call to a supplier and they have advised that the holistic varieties are $111.60 for between 13.6kg or 15kg. Does this seem to be a reasonable price? Cheers Carol Seems a pretty good price I think I last paid about $124 for 13kg. Since I have 4 bigs and one 8 mth old puppy I feed lots of chicken necks and carcasses and veges so they get more raw and less dry so is better for them and less $$$ I guess.
  12. http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/dog_food_reviews/ Have alook at this web site, its independent reviews of dog food....basically most popular dog foods are shite! I feed Eagle Pack Holistic large and Giant puppy to my puppy and Eagle Pack Holistic Anchovie/fish to the bigs that is 4 star most others that I thought were decent are only are 1 star (out of possible 6 stars). Is quite an eye opener. Has been on another thread so you might have seen it before.
  13. All but one of my berners prefer to sleep outside...most nights I have to drag them inside with me My first berner would squeal and carry on in the house but was happy as larry out side. Silly dogs dont know how good they've got it :D
  14. Congratulations on your new baby man! He is gorgeous
  15. I used to go to Daws Rd High too!!!!!!! I was in year 12 in 1993.
  16. I got the new Double K twin motor Xstream last week its FAB! I have big thick coated dogs and it worked really well am very happy with it. Cut my drying time by a fair bit/ dogs were dryer than usual in less time. Got it from Clipperworld Victoria. I ordered Monday and was in my posty box in SA Thursday! Was only 20 bucks more than airmax.
  17. Thats super news Kynan. Scoring time scares the beejeebers out of me. My vet is a star and is always right to within one point or so so as soon as they are done I have a fair idea but still freeeeaaaakkkkyyyy!
  18. Yes Dr Wyburn emailed me late last night to say he didn't receive the xrays until 19th Nov (posted 10th) and he posted back the results on Friday 21st so I should get them today. I wonder why he didn't email me the results? I'm thinking that means bad news is coming No hun, it is not that. With GSDS as part of the agreement with the GSDCA he does not email results back usually. It will be ok Think happy thoughts

  21. I spoke to him yesterday! I think he goes away everyyear in april/may, but is definately there now. I have always had my scores emailed back to me the day he gets them or maybe the day after. Emailing is a great angst reducing service The postage from SA takes ages, I posted mine yesterday so should have results soooooon.
