  1. I tried to use mine once but couldn't figure out how to get it to pop up...
  2. Five months ago, definitely; right now, don't bother.
  3. ;) Kirislin i work on the picture desk of a news media agency (i have to throw the 'media' in the middle otherwise people think i sell newspapers...). I could say one got lost, though it would be difficult to get away with since everyone saw me drooling over everything... damn i should've played cool. Ruth, the OH forgot to charge his happysnap camera (and insurance still hasn't been replaced mine since the burglary), so we managed to get one or two shots before it died. Men. Will post soon though. Aubrey, if you'll come help me break into the office (and help me carry the loot out), you can have the two zooms and i'll bag the rest, besides my boss is down in Melbourne for the Aus Open, whaddya reckon? And i only just realised today that there's a secret compartment in storage with about twenty D2X and D2H bodies lying around, collecting dust. If they weren't so darn heavy i would've sneaked one into my handbag already!
  4. Holy crap. We just had a delivery of about $60,000 worth of new Nikon gear at work, including a couple of D3Xs(!), and a whole bunch of lenses - 24-70mm/2.8, 70-200mm/2.8 VR, 200mm/2 VR, 300mm/2.8 VR and 600mm/4. I almost died unpacking them!
  5. Thanks for the response guys. I haven't seen ProPlan in any shops around my area but i had a look on google and found a three or four online shops that stock it. So what's a good amount of protein to have in kibble, especially if it's the main part of their diet (75%)?
  6. Great, i might order a small pack and give it a go. Thanks for the feedback!
  7. Thanks for that Settrlvr. Just to clarify, by salmon, do you mean the Selects one, or the sensitive skin & stomach?
  8. After an unsuccessful attempt to put the pups on Ziwipeak (and the price tag) following the Orijen drama, we are back on the hunt for something better. I'm looking at ProPlan Selects at the moment, and was wondering if anyone can have a look at the ingredients and tell me if there's anything i need to watch out for? The ones in particular are: For puppies - Natural Turkey & Barley Formula: Turkey, brewers rice, corn gluten meal [i read somewhere that this isn't so good, is that correct?], chicken meal (natural source of glucosamine), pearled barley, animal fat preserved with mixed-tocopherols (form of Vitamin E), oat meal, dried egg product, pea fiber, dried beet pulp, fish oil, natural flavor, potassium chloride, calcium phosphate, calcium carbonate, salt, dried tomatoes, blueberry pomace, dried sweet potatoes, choline chloride, L-Lysine monohydrochloride, zinc proteinate, manganese proteinate, ferrous sulfate, Vitamin E supplement, niacin, copper proteinate, Vitamin A supplement, calcium pantothenate, thiamine mononitrate, riboflavin supplement, Vitamin B-12 supplement, pyridoxine hydrochloride, garlic oil, folic acid, Vitamin D-3 supplement, calcium iodate, biotin, menadione sodium bisulfite complex (source of Vitamin K activity), sodium selenite. Are there any nasties i need to be aware of?
  9. I'm not sure about the Canon equivalents but the first D1 model came out about ten years ago now!
  10. I too am of the Nikon school. When i first learned to shoot it was still on a film SLR (Nikon), and when i started looking at DSLR i was open to looking at Canons as well, though i had a play around with a friend's Canon (can't remember which one, probably a very early entry model) and found the lack of separate dials for aperture and shutter speed highly frustrating, so i stuck with Nikons (though come to think of it, i may have been influenced before that by my dad, who had a beautiful F3). I've been on the D70s for over three years now so i'm quite ready to upgrade, i'm about -->this<-- close to talking myself into getting the D700 . (Slightly OT but just read about the new D3X - 24.5mp!) That said, when it comes to compact cameras, i always stick with Canon, i guess i've just grown comfortable with their IXUS range and its user interface.
  11. Thanks for that Fady. I was completely oblivious to all this until a couple of days ago, and i was wondering why my delivery of Orijen came with a sample of Ziwipeak the other week... The puppies loved Ziwi though, so it's good to know they're safe to switch to.
  12. Hadn't heard of the screengrab method either, sounds very simple! We have actions preset on photoshop at work so it does the resizing with one click
  13. Which part of Sydney are you in? There's no sun over here in the eastern suburbs But yes, i also agree re: lighting - first light, last light and overcast light are ideal for portraits
  14. I haven't read up a lot on Lightroom yet but i thought it's more a for tweaking images (exposure, w/b, dodge/burn, etc) than for the kind of manipulation you're hoping to do? I agree with Luke re: getting best shot you can to start with. Even with big-money commercial projects, where they have plenty of cashola to spend on post production and manipulation, they still try to get the very best shot they can. I also use Photoshop, mostly because that's what they have/had at the places i work/ed. I've never tried any other imaging programs so i can't really compare i'm afraid. I think it's a fantastic program, so many fantastic tools (i suspect i probably use only about 30% of what it has to offer...). It might be worth actually spending the time and effort to learn to use it properly - there are a lot of online tutorials that are easy to follow, or even do a short course. The thing with how much time it takes, like most things, is the more familiar you are with the tools you have on hand and the better you get at them, the less time it takes.
  15. Brilliant shot Chloe's Dad! **note to self - must visit Loch Ness one day......
  16. My Frenchie boy got a bit dandruffey a few months back and i switched from regular dog shampoo to Aloveen oatmeal shampoo (and i eventually added their conditioner as well), i can't recommend it more
  17. Oh no, poor Gus! Hope he's better now? I've got larger-sized nylabones for my two, there's no way they'll be able to swallow them so i think they're pretty safe.
  18. I've just put in a 6-weekly reminder alarm in my mobile phone so hopefully i won't forget anymore! Thanks again Alison
  19. Give it to them now and don't stress, it's actually probably perfect timing. You really only need to worm for heartworm every 45 days, but they say monthly just to make it easier for people to remember. I only heartworm every 45 days, no point putting more chemicals in their body than needed. Really? I had no idea, that worked out well then , thanks for the tip!
  20. I give my dogs the Advocate monthly treatment, but being the doofus that i am , i forgot about this month's dose and i'm now about 2 weeks late ;). So do i give them one now and the next one in another month's time? Or do i give them this dose then go back to the original schedule, i.e. give them their next one in 2 weeks?
  21. From what Canon model onwards do they have separate dials for the shutter and aperture settings? I remember fiddling with a couple... took me a while to figure out how to set the bleeding thing!
