Mine get fruit mixed up as part of their BARF slops. They love pieces of every sort of fruit. Probably would have to say melon and bannana are their favourites. Grapes are a big no no.

Give her some bones. My lot usually get lamb backbones or ribs.

Desexing And Blood From Vulva

Have a talk to your vet. Maybe she was coming on heat and she has a sort of Endometriosis so even though her ovaries and uterus have been removed she still has some endometrium cells remaining in her remaining cervix. -
Yep used to feed mine either the normal Hills or the Hills Prescription R/D or W/D as it was great for taking weight off.

I am now an avid BARF convert, and wouldn't feed my dogs dry food ever again, but back in the day when I did feed dry food it was Hills Science Diet. I have seen people say that HSD is horrendus dry food. Not really knowing the ins and outs of dry food I am wondering why it is so bad compared to other dried food?

Most supermarkets sell chicken necks in the deli section. They also usually have chicken wings. Lots of butchers also sell chicken necks, frames, livers & ground frames (pet mince) Chicken shops like Lenards also sell the necks, frames and pet mince. You might have to ask them about it as they usually have it out the back and not on display.

I'd alternate the cottage cheese with youghurt. If you could get hold of chicken skin then maybe that could be usefull as well. -
Dexter Has Sore Legs.. Update After Vet Visit
puggy_puggy replied to Cosmolo's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Maybe crate rest him and see if there is an improvement. Is it both his legs that you think are effected? If his hips were popped out the vet would have been able to tell I am sure. Does he pull away in pain if you poke around a particular area? Rymadil is a brand name for carprophen. I know that some people have siad their dogs have had adverse effects from it but when my girl had a week or so of tablets she was fine with it. -
Mmm I can't really see anything from her photo apart from her being really cute. Is she a staffy? How old is she? I have just recently been through knuckling with a rescue pug pup and cutting back her food and changing her diet a bit has helped. She went through a few stages from it looking like she was walking on her tippy toes to her legs sort of bowing. Have a look at this website. http://www.greatdanelady.com/articles/knuckling_over.htm do any of the pictures look like what is happening with your girls leg?

Sounds like he is being submissive, with the talk of your cats, and only having a little to eat and leaving the rest so the others can have it and so he doesn't get bashed up. The barrier sounds like a great idea between him and the others. Sit on the ground with him and encourage him to eat to improve his confidence. Lots of rescues I have are not overly confident, very submissive and timid, to start off with, when it comes to eating, but after some hand feeding and encouragement they come around. I always supervise dinner time and mine know that they are not allowed to check out the other dogs food bowls. I use a water spray bottle to enforce this sometimes if there are new kids on the block.

Anyone, With Experience With A Pup With A Snotty Nose
puggy_puggy replied to Jibba's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I thought that the vaccination schedule was 6, 12 and 16 weeks. Are they now doing all of the KC vaccines up the nose? What happend to the injection? With green snot I think maybe some antibiotics are needed or what about trying some collidal silver. -

What sort of cheese did you give him? I don't think that the normal cheese isn't very good for dogs, I don't feed my dogs any apart from maybe using it to put a tablet in, the more natural less unprocessed stuff like cottage cheese is much better. Just a spoonfull or so of the cottage cheese or youghrt mixed in with his other food would be fine I think. -
Have you tried not feeding him near the other dogs? Maybe feed him seperatley and offer him his food on your hand with your hand getting progressivley lower to the food bowl each time. He really sounds like my girl when she was being a picky eater. Also another thought. Maybe he doesn't like his food bowl. What are you feeding him out of. Maybe it is to deep or he sees his reflection in it.

Glad that Mick is ok now. I'm a bit worried that hte vet gave him meds when she really didn't know what was going on with him. I would put my money on Mick having something out of allignment and the trip to the chiropractor helped him and then the rest also did. One of the rescue pug pups I am fostering had been putting no weight on one of her back legs from Wednesday to Saturday, last week. I held off taking her to the vets as I had felt around and located the pain being in the hip and had crate rested her and like Mick she had been sleeping and moping around for the first two days. I took her to the vets on Saturday and he poked, proded and put the hip through it's motions whilst she screamed. He, being a good vet, didn't prescribe anything and said just wait and see. Wouldn't you know it the little shit was back to her normal self yesterday and back to putting weight onto her leg. I really think that the poking and prodding must have done something.

My female pug was a picky eater when she was little. I got to the point of spoon feeding her. Now she is a little piggy. Have you tried any chicken necks, minced meats, sardines, yoghurt, chicken breasts cooked? Maybe the puppy mince, that is chicken bones that has been minced, would be a good idea for your boy as it has the bone in it for the calcium which he might need after his leg break. When I have a new rescue pug here I often find they are rather tentative to eat to start off with and will often sit with them and actually hand feed, I feed a BARF diet, after a few days they are little piggies like my two. Can you sit with your boy and not let the others eat his food? I know others will say not to hand feed but maybe you should to start off with and if he doesn't eat all of his food take it away and offer it to him later.

What about cottage cheese or yoghurt? Both full fat of course. Maybe a spoon full or two a day. -
I am sure that it is fine. Aren't soya products reccomended in humans as a way to try and prevent cancer?
-
I wouldn't feed the rice. It's not a natural part of a dogs diet. I am presuming that the pet mince is minced chicken frames? If the mince does not have bones in it then I would be feeding chicken necks, I chop mine up into approx thirds. You could also add in once a week some fish, I feed tinned sardines. Also a bone at least twice a week would be a good idea.

Ohhh be carefull with the Vicks if it gets on the stitch area it would sting. Sounds like Jonty's elizabethan collar is to big for him. Dogs should be able to eat and drink with them on. And as for getting into kennels I had a little pug rescue girl I was fostering who slept in a kennel at her original owners house. The day after she arrived she had major eye surgery and had to wear an elizabethan collar. Because I don't have dogs sleeping outside and I wanted her to have something familiar I washed her kennel and had it in my tv room for when I bought her home from the surgery. She sure enough managed to get her drugged out self and her elizabethan collar into the kennel, the opening wasn't that big, and turn herself around and was happy as larry.

Um have never heard of dogs not being able to eat or drink properly with an elizabethan collar on. I have had 3 dogs that have worn one for over two weeks and they did just fine. The wound should be pretty healed by Monday so wouldn't worry to much about him doing much damage. I would be inclined to leave the collar on him. He will find a way to get into his kennel with it on don't worry. Do you have a neighbour or a friend that could check up on him during the day whilst you are at work?

Just wondering adverse effects calcium supplements can have on a pup. My vet has reccomended adding some to a pug pups food. His words were 'adding a calcium supplement wouldn't hurt'
-
I currently have a rescue pug pup, just on two months old, that has knuckled over. I started a thread on it but it was deleted because it turned into a slanging match about my pug is better then yours with some people but anyways. I feed a BARF diet. What I learnt from it was I was feeding to much. So how much are you feeding? I cut back to 10% of the body weight 3 times a day. Also learnt that I had to make sure their was bones in the diet, calcium. Have done this with minced chicken necks and frames. You could probably add some other bones to your dogs diet, I haven't been able to do so as a pug pup isn't very effective in eating beef or lamb bones. http://www.greatdanelady.com/articles/knuckling_over.htm
