Help With Skin Condition In Rescued Bully Pup
puggy_puggy replied to BomaBec's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Any improvement? I asked if he was desexed just because if he needed to be done and his skin improves with what you are doing at home I would have gotten the skin scraping done when he was desexed. But if he can't be desexed for a while and his skin doesn't look any better with what you are doing then get him done. Get him vaccinated when he is desexed. Get him onto a BARF diet. -
Choking/difficulty Swallowing
puggy_puggy replied to cowanbree's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
What are you feeding? If it's dry food it might help to soften it in water before hand. Could they both have tumours in their mouths or throats that are stopping them being able to swallow? I don't know about sticking your hands down their throats. Vets usually say that this isn't a very susseful way of clearing throats. Maybe try the heimlich maneuver instead. -
Help With Skin Condition In Rescued Bully Pup
puggy_puggy replied to BomaBec's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I think that most 'Rescues' try to deal with problems before they resort to vets because of cost factors. Alot of things people take their dogs to the vets for can things that can be easily treated at home and for far less expense then if it went to the vets. So BomaBec I support you in taking him to the vets straight away if he is happy, bright and alert, eating fine, drinking enough water, and he is toileting fine. Forget about the Revolution. It does heartworm as well as fleas, ear mites and scarcoptic mange. Probably best to have him heartworm tested, as he has come out of a pound, before using any heartworm product. Use a flea product. You said you had some frontline spray. This would be fine to use. Directions: For use on dogs and cats, puppies and kittens from 2 days of age. Adjust the pump nozzle to the spray setting. Apply Frontline Spray at 3-6 mL per kg body weight. Use higher rates for long haired or densely coated animals to ensure the coat is thoroughly wet. Spray the entire body of the animal and apply from a distance of approximately 10-20 cm. Apply against the lay of the hair, and make sure that the entire coat of the animal is thoroughly wet with Frontline Spray. Ruffle the coat as the spray is applied, especially in long haired or densely coated animals, so that the product penetrates down to the skin. Allow to dry naturally. Do not towel dry. Is he desexed and microchipped? -
Help With Skin Condition In Rescued Bully Pup

As others have said get a skin scraping done to rule out mites. Get him on a good diet. BARF or RAW. Some allergic conditons can be caused by dry foods. And I bet he has been eating the worst of the worst food for his whole short little life. You said you have wormed him have you also used something like puppy revolution on him? The malaseb wash sounds good. Not sure how often you should bath him. Maybe everyday? You could also get some curash for the raw spots. -
As long as she is healthy and growing then she will be fine. Don't you just love how the smallest usually have the most spunk.

Make sure she has no excess weight on her. The vet should be able to give her an injection to help. One of the heated beds also sounds like a good idea for her.

I use flaxseed oil in the BARF veggie slops I make up. I am really not sure how much I put in, probably half a little bottle, into the bucket of slops.

Coat Colouring Question
puggy_puggy replied to GoldiesRgr8Poodles2's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
OMG that is tooo cute. I have thought about doing my pugs tails for special events but not sure I would be happy with them having to stay that way for a month and a half. How often do you bath during that month and a half? Maybe it wouldn't stay as long if you bathed more often? Just found the Manic Panic on ebay. -
Ohh big revamp.

Head Tilt/vestibular Disease
puggy_puggy replied to I Love Iggies's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Fingers crossed that things will be fine with him. If he doesn't have anything else going on other then the falling over and head tilting then just keep him safe and sound and ride it out, it may be a few weeks though. Good idea with the crate. Has he stopped with the vomiting? -
If you think it's excessive then get your vet to check her out for dry eyes or her eyelashes rolling in causing irritation.

Puppy Cloudy Eye In A Few Hours
puggy_puggy replied to jeffm's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Ohh great news Jeff. Keep doing what you are doing. Some people suggest keeping the dog in a dark place or at least out of direct sunlight till they eye has completely healed. I am pretty sure that some also suggest Vitamin C to help in the healing. I If it looks worse again go back to the vets. Any eye injury you should go straight to the vets. As said before they will usually do antibiotics if it's not very serious. If it's serious they will refer you to an eye specalist. -
Eww sounds feral. The patties are pretty feral but I can't imagine squeezing it out of a packet. Will have to get in contact with one of the ladies I pug sit for as she only feed the patties and chicken necks. I would make your own. I bake my own BARF veggie & fruit slops and have a roatating meat selection I will add to the meals every night. If anyone wants my method feel free to PM me.

Head Tilt/vestibular Disease
puggy_puggy replied to I Love Iggies's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Have looked after a gorgous rescue pug boy with head tilt. He was about 2 years or a bit younger when I looked after him and had been through the infection and sickness stage before he got into rescue. The lasting effects that he had was that every now and again he would sort of have a spasm that would make him walk sort of sideways with his head tilted to one side looking up at you with one eye like dolphins swim around sometimes. It was very cute. Apart from his 'spasm sideways walking head tilting episodes' he was a very healthy and happy boy and the episodes didn't seem to worry him at all it was us humans that would be feeling sorry for him when he did it. So basically if you can get your dog through the infection sickness time, which can be horrific, they will usually come out of it ok. I think that during the sickness time they will use cortisone or some type of steroids and it does take a prolonged period of time for them to slowly get better. With your boy being young he should be able to come through ok and only have the head tilt as lasting side effect. -
Once a day in the evening. If it's bone day they will get that in the morning and then their meal in the evening.

Poor boy. I would also suggest some type of supplement for him. Sounds like he is lacking in something. What is he being fed?

Bedding For Incontinent Dog
puggy_puggy replied to WOOFLUVA's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Urine burns people too. It has a fair bit to do with the development of nappy rash. Ok. I don't have kids so am not up with all of the nappy stuff. -
Bedding For Incontinent Dog
puggy_puggy replied to WOOFLUVA's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
If you made sure the undies were just like a childs nappy then why would there be urnine burn? Is dogs urnine more acidic then humans? Or do humans suffer from urnie burn as well? -
Upset Tummy Reaction To:

I would be looking into why he is eating his own poo. It could be an enzyme deficencey or then again it could be just being a puppy. -
Vommiting Clear Frothy Liquid.

Just like humans have random chucks dogs do as well. Probably something in her system that it couldn't digest so it tried to get rid of it. -
Double post.

If your breeder is a reputable registered breeder they should be able to give you all of this information without any problems. Have a chat to them. Many breeders will actually give you information sheets as well as a starter pack of food.

Desexing, Do Vets Ever Give Pain Killers After?
puggy_puggy replied to SarasMum's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Yes unless your vets is a 24 hour vets then I don't see the point in the dog staying there overnight either. -
Desexing, Do Vets Ever Give Pain Killers After?
puggy_puggy replied to SarasMum's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Um from my experiences when both dogs and bitches get desexed they get a painkilling injection to go along with it and I have always bought them home on the same day as their operation. I have never had any vet send home any sort of pain relief tablets. Because I foster rescue pugs I have had quite a few dogs and bitches, including my own, desexed whilst they have been in my care. Can't say that I have ever had any of the throw up but they have all been groggy, to different extents, but absolutley fine the next day after they had slept it off. I had one bitch that went through some periods of heavy breathing like she was in a bit of pain. I will always have the dogs right next to me where ever I might be, for comfort, then when I go to bed the sleep next to me, as usual. The next day they have alwasy been fine. It's to my understanding that dogs also have less pain sensors then humans and when they are perfoming a spaying on a female dog they are able to cut between the stomach muscles unlike in a human where they cut across the stomach muscles. Maybe the pain factor is different in larger sized dogs then pugs. :D
