  1. i wasn't sure where to ask so i thought i'd try here first. 1- can we import bite sleeves?? ie customs problems and 2 - can we get quick release pinch/prong collars in Aus?? if so how can we get a hold of them?? thanks DOLers Jessca ETA-Pics of collar
  2. i just checked out that site, they have a sec training course i might do, it looks pretty good compared to the NDTF one i plan to do.
  3. i just received choosing a working puppy, i cant wait to watch it!! :D
  4. if your willing to import, leerburg productions sell alot of (as far as i know) top of the line stuff. http://leerburg.com/equip.htm local Sch clubs may also be a good place to ask around.
  5. very true, we have all the good leads and collars, things like that. considering the other day our bull mastiff broke a leather collar, it shows you that you really need top of the line stuff. but cricket pads seem to work well, untill the dog is fully grown then defiantly get a good sleeve. Kaiser broke his first cricket pad at 8 months, just to stop any assumptions kaiser is not sec trained and is not going to be. the sleeve gets his prey/play drive under control, and he enjoys the game of tug, just re say game.
  6. i really want to try one of the 'dog' (high pitch) whistles. do they work well?? and would anyone recommend them?? thanks
  7. and then there's the option of train and board, although for sec/PP dogs i would highly unrecommended it. that can cost upwards of $1000 a week. but what Monelite said above would seem about right. its an expensive thing. but you can also do it with the basics, for example we used old cricket pads instead of sleeves, works well when local cricket clubs through alot of them out, may not last as long as a sleeve but you'll have pretty much an endless supply of them.
  8. Kaiser was desexed at about 7 months it took a few weeks before he was 'flat' (if you know what i mean) after the swelling goes down it also took abit for the skin to shrink. dont worry i though the same thing- did they do right?
  9. mmmm RC... *drool* oh that was the dog, not me... i do agree though it smells pretty good for dog food.
  10. what has Sch really got to do with protection?? there is a big diff between Sch and protection work. Sch is more like a dance routine than anything else, putting a Sch dog into a protection situation would probably not do to well. i would love to get back into protection work, after me family has been training pp dogs for 25 years, so i know how you feel, and you have to have a lot of knowledge. i advise you to watch as many movies, read as many books and see as many trainers working hands on as you possibly can. good luck oh and if "know one has given any advice worth listening" to why did you bother staring this thread, people did try to give you advice what more do you want. Both are trained to attack. I'd say the similarities are pretty strong. they are not both trained to attack SCH dogs are trained to bite a sleeve. not attack a person till there still on the ground.

  12. im doing the D/L course starting in August we have one training block in september (2 seperate dates) and one in January (also has two seperate date) its dear but it should be worth it. you can also see how they train by going along to ADT(australian dog training) they have a few centres around Melb and are all qualified NDTF instructers.
  13. what sortof raw food are you looking for?? we get all our chicken products from lennards. three frames for $1 and chicken frame mince 1$ for 1kg.
  14. hahaha kaiser is the same, both kaiser and our last dobie love/d apples. Pal used to drowl when we were in the car when he saw them. and kaiser sits in front of you and blocks you off until you give him some, its kinda annoying but its so cute. this is gorgeous!!
  15. Hi Jessca - the "Take the GuessWork Out" Vic Tour 2008 run by Pro-K9 and K9 Force was held over the 16th, 17th and 18th May. Sorry - you've missed that one, but that's not to say there won't be another. Not sure when that would be likely to be though. sigh maybe next time.
  16. does any one know when/if K9 force will be coming to Vic?? or have i missed it?? thanks
  17. I so ditto that. Some kids need to be taught that sought of lesson. Their parents too. i know i should have the first time i did that, on a different occasion, the kids chased us and grabbed his tail, i tell you the kids parents payed attention then when i threatened to grab there arms and pull them. so this time i thought i'd try and stand my ground and tell them to go away. that and i didn't really think, we where sitting down, with kaiser inbetween myself and a friend and it all happened so fast. i know it was careless.
  18. thanks guys for all your help, i'll try and find some trustworthy kids. and start off with them throwing treats to him and slowly get closer. the parents of the girl were no where to be seen rexiam- its good that silky is like that, hopefully, one day, kaiser will be able to be like that. thanks again everyone ;)
  19. I use clicker with my working line australian shepherd. Whoever told you this is telling you porkie pies. I too use a clicker for both of my kelpies and also my corgie x red heeler without a problem at all, in fact their eyes light up each time they see it. thanks guys i might try it on kaiser. might motivate him a bit more. I better not tell my Dobermann that clickers don't work, she might go on strike. :p oh no... i better keep quite dont want your dobie or any other working dogs to go on strike thanks again everyone
  20. last week whilst we where at the footy, a young girl despite me screaming at her to leave kaiser alone, wacked him in the face with a stick because he was trying to hide from her. i am now affraid he will hate little kids for life. as for the rest of the day evertime a kid came near me he growled. please help what can i do to desensitze him??
  21. i dont use a clicker, ive been told they dont work well with working dogs, is this true??
