  1. Hi DOLers, firstly like to wish you all a very merry Christmas and a happy new year. Chevy has been getting these sores since we got her a few years ago. We have been to the local vet many times but they are stumped and do not know what to do. We are yet to take her to our regular vet as it is a 50 min drive, and she can get severely car sick. But i think we are going to have to. i have a day by day picture diary of her sores that i will post up. There are a lot of pics so please bear that in mind, as i also have a slow internet connection. i have days 1 - 7 of her last sore from the 4/7 to 13/7. And today’s pictures of her sore, which must have come up over night as it was not there we she went to bed. thanks in advance for any help or information Day 1 - Day 2 - Day 3 -
  2. Check your postage costs though.... I think I found one site where the product was cheaper than the other but the postage ended up making it more expensive. I use pricelesspets too.... thanks for that i'll check. im ordering three items, and they say that they are all .10kgs each. Postage is $4.95 for items up to 500g, mine is 300g so they should only charge me $4.95, that seems reasonable, i think. thanks again. ETA - - Priceless Pets. If you are ordering orders over 500g thats really good, compared to APD where they charge every order by weight and type. PP just have a standard freight price.
  3. Thanks everyone for your help. i think im going to go with Aussie Pet Direct, there sight is alot easier to navigate, and they have the right size doeses for what i need, although with the cat advocate i could save money by getting the bulk one that Priceless Pets has but i dont need that much I worked out(with drontal) that Aussie Pet Direct was about $7 cheaper than Priceless pets. but my math skills are not great so i think i worked it out right. Priceless pets have drontal for $4.4 per 10kg, where as APD has drontal for $2.3 per 10kg ( i think, stupid brain doesnt work properly ) Thanks everyone for all your help
  4. After the threads in OT i was wondering where does everyone get there 'doggie meds" from?? (as to title, fleas, wormers ect) and what is the price/brand?? its that time to flea and worm ALL the pets, so i need to go out and get 100kg worth of Drontal dog, 10kg worth of kitty wormer, and the equivalent of flea stuff. so i would like to know where is the cheap place that DOLers get theirs from. Thanks in advance , Jess If this has already been done, please direct me too it, i am no good with the search thing
  5. i only use drontal, one i was converted over i never went back. when i got my pup he had a severe case of worms, which we could not get rid of. the vet gave us Drontal and after one treatment/dose the worms went. even though we had tried for 2-3 months to get rid of them on the 'less expensive' brands it didnt work. so i will only ever use Drontal, plus my dogs love the taste
  6. Hi I just noticed today at our harvey norman they had the D40 for under $600 might be an option and it would be brand new!! thanks for that, i'll have a look at it over the w/e  i think im going to wait till after chrisy to buy one, wait till all the boxing day sales
  7. Kirislin- my limit is around $700 maybe a little more, thanks kindly to K rudd for buying me a camera for chrisy Chezzyr- replying to you now. thanks. thanks.
  8. hi dolers, im looking into getting a second hand DSLR, (at a reasonable price), i have been wanting to move up for ages, but i am still a novice at this. i am looking for either a canon 350D or 400D preferably with two lenses (org lense kit) or a Nikon of some sort, around the same sort as the Canon(im not to good with Nikon's models) i think i want a D40/D40x i would prefer an older model, as money atm is quite tight(stupid considering im buying a camera ) any help would be greatly appreciated, i am currently living on ebay looking at cameras. im not going to bother getting a new camera for a while, i thought id learn how to use an older one before i step up to a good new one. thanks in advance for any help. Cheers, Jess
  9. YAY for Chezzyr, well done and thank you for saving other clueless camera people like myself. thanks everyone for your help and input.
  10. most dog sports, if done correctly, are all done in prey drive. its all one big game to them. and if they are a true 'sport' dog (not a sec or pp dog) the moment you take the sleeve away the dogs wouldn't have a clue what you are asking of them(in most cases). olden day sports were a lot harsher, but nowadays people have seen how much better a dog works when its happy, and excited. which is exactly what the sport is about, your dog showing its drive, which is mainly prey/play drive. now please anyone correct me if you think i am wrong, i am in no way an expert on sports, and am only fairly new to it. ETA- this was all related to you saying you'd be interested in seeing a true sch training, thats what its like. AMAZING, i havn't seen a training session in person yet, but i have watched many vids of friends and clubs doing it. its very impresive. Especially a schH 111 dog!!
  11. Is this Dante?? chevy used to be like that. we did the same sort of thing as Judi, had both the doors open, and left a little trail of food(from both doors) leading to a bowl/pile in the middle of the seats, then just let her go, and do it by herself. chevy gets worse if you watch her, or push her. so we just let her go (and made sure we remembered to turn the light off, dont want a dead battery, :D ) and after a while just left the food in the middle, then had one door closed, then eventually closed both doors and so on. Good luck with him. i hope i get to meet him soon.
  12. thanks for that Kirislin and Chezzyr. i know i read the question and was a little stunned by the answer, i have no plans of getting, luckily. it will be interesting to see what they respond Chezzyr. thanks again for all your help.
  13. is this a real model?? i have seen it advertised on ebay, but there is only one of them does that then mean its newer than the 450??? im so confused any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, Cheers, Jess
  14. any one who feels affected by this, and would like to help out please go to the forum linked in my signature, our forum is dedicated to stopping this bs, and preserving the true working dog. please help out in any way you can. even if its just numbers, anything you can do to help is good enough. http://www.specialistcanines.com/ HR-you bet me to it i was about to post that. thank you, Cheers, Jess
  15. as mentioned above, 7 weeks is the best age. and definatly take the pup into a new environment and it should be happy confident and want to play. also watch to see that the pups run up to the fence when you go to see them. heres a link to a working dog website where someone wanted to know the same thing. http://www.specialistcanines.com/selecting...nt-testing.html good luck with your new puppy.
  16. ok thanks so much for that. im going to look around, hopefully i'll find something nice. im looking into a canon 300 or 350, they are more in my price range, then i'll go out and get a good lense (defiantly the 50mm 1.4!!!) happy snapping with your new lense, i look forward to seeing LOTS of piccys.
  17. I only bought the lens today. If you are in the market for a new camera there's the same model as I have, the Canon 400D with the kit lenses for $949. Although the 400d has been superseded by the 450d this is still a good price I think. It was at JB hi fi at Eastland Vic. Only one left. the box was slightly torn but that wont affect the camera. If you want to chase it up JB's ph number is 9870 3488. thanks for that, was that including the 1.4 lense that you got?? or did you have to buy that separate?? thanks again for your help.
  18. beautiful photos Kirislin, im not sure i want to ask, but how much was it?? im in the market for a new camera.
  19. thanks everyone for your input, its good to hear that there arn't many cases in VIC. after my last dobie got it and was brought back twice(yes he died three times in his lifetime, RIP my boy, you'll forever live on in our hearts) im get a bit worried when i hear of it. not for my dogs, but for everyone elses, i dont want people to have to go through what we did. with the socio - economic thing, we had our dogs in Boronia and they were fine, my boy caught it when we moved near the city, Coburg, thats not really a lower classed area is it?? the problem is it can live in the ground for a very long time - for people worried that they may have it - sorry for all the quotes, i have heaps more (about 30-40 word pages) as i did a project on it for Biology. for anyone worried about going near an infected area, i was told (this was in relivence to Canine Cough though) to give my dogs two to three teaspoons of Active Manuka Honey, with the highest + rating you can find, as this boosts the dogs amune system. thanks again everyone.
  20. has no one got any info maybe i should request to get this topic moved to general??
  21. i got a bag of the Great Barko today, im going to try a 50/50 mix with the Eagle Pack Holistics. what i did is i put a small hand full if the GB in a bowl, a small handfull of the EP and a small hand full of another 'supermarket brand" in a third bowl. all three of the dogs chose the GB first EP second and the shity brand last. this may have been cause the GB is new and different to them. but i tell you it looks like crap compared to the EP, but the dogs seem to really like it, it has a smell to it where as the EP doesn't really. i'll see how they go on a 50/50 mix for a couple of weeks, and if it doesn't work out to well, back to 100% EP. cause they are both doing quite well on it. i found the same EP i bought last week, for double what i payed (i payed 36 for 7.5kg i found it today for 80). Pets at Home is sooo dear compared to Petstock. and lysterfield produce can be even cheaper, the GB was 27 for 22kg, thats so cheap.
  22. I have heard a bit of the outbreak of parvo in victoria the last day or two. does anyone know what areas, roughly, have been infected?? it seems to be spreading quite rapidly, from what i've heard. so if anyone knows of any of the areas in vic (or any other state) that have been affected could they please post it up. thanks everyone, any help will be greatly appreciated. and hopefully we can help to stop any more doggies catching it. MissyMoo, i hope hef gets better real soon.
  23. our mastiff gets severe car sickness. we just dont feed her before we go anywhere, have the windows down and, as unsafe as it is but is the only thing we have found to work, allow her to see where she is going. what she does is she sits on the floor behind one of the front seats and pops her head through the middle, she can then see out the front and where she is going. if we are going on a long trip, she will take herself to the back seat and lay down, then when she starts to feel sick again, she sits up and watches where she is going. this worked for us for a three hour trip. which is really good cause when we first got her, she'd struggle to make it to the end of the street.
  24. since putting both the big dogs on EP Holistic there coats have improved, Kaiser's has always been good, but now is even better. Chevy has always had a dull coat but since she has started EP (even though she is still getting a 50/50 mix with her old dry food) her coat is now much softer and shinier. haven't yet noticed a difference in their farts though, but that could also be the chicken frames, cause Chevy really stank last night(the thunder storm made her a little nervous)
