  1. I thought it was beautiful and very moving, saying goodbye is never easy, regardless of the species or circumstances. Each one of us deals with that loss in a different way, that doesn't make one's persons way better than another. RIP Oden.
  2. Poor little bub, he doesn't look well at all. How old do you think he is, from the pic, I'd say a maximum of 3 or 4 weeks.. I hope he survives the night... lots of positive energy coming his way. Make sure you keep him warm though. Keep us posted...
  3. Last ones, this is Gizmo when he was a kitten, he was CRAZY.. the first one he's trying to karate chop poor old Jake... I'm lovin all the dogs ears and gums flying through the air... classic!
  4. And this is our old boy, Jake (RIP)... my son had fun playing dress ups with him.
  5. This is one of my favourite pics of Georgia when she was a puppy... it always makes me laugh..
  6. Good luck, I hope you can get them out, so they can be rehomed the right way. I've done the same thing with kittens, the person giving them away usually couldn't care less what happens to them, as long as they are not their problem anymore.
  7. Carrie, why don't you just contact her and tell her you want to adopt the dogs.. she obviously doesn't care too much what happens to them.
  8. Its obvious how much you loved you boy and how much he loved you. I hope you are better able to remember the good times now, that photo is stunning.
  9. Your dog looks so stressed out being locked in a cage... NOT! We have two crates inside, and Georgia is quite often found snoozing in one of them. She obviously feels safe in there. I was discussing crate training with a friend who is a vet nurse, she told me her vet she works with is dead againt it and thinks its cruel... well, my little girl has been crate trained since before she arrived, and its come in handy because she's had two operations and the fact that a crate didn't scare her, helped greately while she was staying at the vet reouperating.
  10. Thats the best pic ever. Dusty is my type of dog.. love it. Georgia, my sheltie, has a similar temperment, she's never more than a metre from me. I can walk her without a lead, and she walks as though she's still attached, just a very devoted, lovable girl.
  11. Is there a personality difference between the colours? I have to say those red merles are so pretty.
  12. I've been admiring the aussies for a while too. I've been lucky enough to meet some of Gayle's dogs and Dusty is divine... I've secretly been thinking that an Aussie would be a great addition sometime in the future. We have a 2yo sheltie girl, I'm sure she'd love to have a doggy friend. The thing that I worry about is health issues, and thats not just this breed but all breeds. We've been through luxating patella with Georgia and I really don't want to go through that again. Are the Aussies known to have knee/hip problems? Everything I've read says that the Aussies are a pretty healthy breed though.
  13. That is beautiful, tears falling here too.
  14. Since I've changed her over to the barf her coat is amazing. It actually has a sparkle to it in the sun, just so shiny and healthy looking. Its just more confirmation for me that we're on the right track.
  15. I just wanted to post an update. Miss Georgia has now lost 500 grams. So another 500 grams and she'll be at the weight the vet wants her at.. we're getting there, even though she gives me the STARVING dog act every single day! I did end up changing her over to the barf patties, and she gets the odd half a chicken frame, instead of the barf some days to keep her teeth in good order. I've come to realise that she actually doesn't need very much food, I was giving her WAY too much. Because she has a dodgy knee, she's not as active as a normal 2yo dog, so isn't burning up the same amount of energy. We're still enjoying our walkies and playtime though. So all is good, the vet will be pleased with us, when we go back for another injection in a couple of weeks.
  16. We're happy to inspire your Mum Saxon and Riley, you are a gorgeous pair. Make sure you hassle her into taking you again tomorrow. :D
  17. Yep, bung leg and all she never complains and lives life to the max. We can all learn something from dogs I reckon.
  18. Georgia is soooo happy everytime I walk her. This is the smile she gives me, to say thanks Mum. :D This photo was taken a few days ago when the sun was shining.
  19. Well we are back and survived. It honestly wasn't as bad as I thought. I even un-zipped my jacket because I got hot. But we're so lucky, we were across the road from the house and it started pissing down rain... phew!
  20. My lovely vet really wants my dog to lose some weight. She's not massively overweight but does need to lose a kilo. So I gave her my word, I'd walk her rain, hail or shine EVERYDAY!!. Well today in Melbourne, we've had the rain, we've had the hail, we've had sunshine and its windy as anything, as a bonus! But I'm a woman of my word.. we're rugging up and off we go! Hopefully we don't blow away...
  21. I'm sorry for your loss, she sounded like a real character. RIP Sweet Girl
  22. I had the idea to grab the camera, the dog and the kids and go to the park and see if I could get a decent pic. I wanted to blow it up and have it printed on canvas and stretched on a frame for my hubby for Fathers Day. This is what I came up with, what do you think? I'm by no means a great photographer, but I'm really happy with my efforts. I know hubby will love it, he's away on business at the moment.
  23. Well I'm a bit disappointed, I weighed Georgia this morning and she's put back on the weight she'd lost. All she's getting is 1/2 cup of proplan weight loss, with a bit of grated carrot and a fish oil capsule over the top for her joints. I have to say though, this is MUCH less than the packaging recommends and she's not eating it all at once. She's leaving some and coming back to it. To me it appears she doesn't enjoy it very much at all. I'm going to decrease the amount of dry further over the weekend, and then I think I'll ditch the dry completely. The vet wanted to put her onto a Hills weight loss prescription food exclusively, which I don't agree with at all. I know where I can get Barf patties, so I'm going to see if I can get the kangaroo ones and start her on those next week. They are the lowest fat option. I'm open to any other suggestions.
  24. Thank you all for your understanding and just getting it. Its hard when you lose a family member, regardless of whether they are wearing a fur coat or not.
  25. About 5 years ago we adopted a little cavalier by the name of Jake. I found him advertised free to a good home, he was no longer wanted. When he arrived he was such a sad boy, he was filthy and covered in fleas. This poor little dog had spent his entire life locked in the backyard. He wasn't allowed inside. The night he came home I can vividly remember putting him straight in the laundry trough for a scrub. He groaned in absolute pleasure. From that moment, he became an inside dog and a much loved family member. He was happy here, but he was also scared of my young son who was a very active full on boy, and still is. We had a holiday booked and my parents offered to babysit him. My step Dad is not a well man and as a result doesn't work, in those 3 weeks they found each other, from then on they were inseperable. They spent 24 hours a day together. Jake gave my Dad a reason to get out of bed, a reason to get off the couch, a reason to live. At the time I felt incredibly guilty, I felt like I'd let Jake down again, but Jake was the happiest he'd ever been. Jake has been a part of our family for half his life, today he left us surrounded by love. He was old and sick and just couldn't go on anymore. So my parents gave him the ultimate gift and released him from his pain and suffering. I know we are all heart-broken tonight but Jakey boy is at peace. I'm proud to have played a part in helping you find the happiness you always deserved Jakey Boy. You may have left this earth, but you'll live on in our hearts forever. RIP Jake - 4/5/00 - 30/8/11
