 Typical Raggies, I'll see if I can find some better looking ones of Holly, I only just took some the other day. A couple of links from face book Bailey and Holly and 20 years old and 19 years old

Sorry Snook, I just read back your comment on Lollies pics and realised I totally repeated exactly what you said. I hate it when people do that to me, so apologies!!

I might be wrong but on a Nikon I think tungsten might be incandescent??

 She's a doll really, just a mellow old lady, she has always had a kind of evil look about her but she is the total opposite, she will be 21 on the 1st December this year. She doesn't do much these days eats and sleeps and thats about it. It feels like I have had her my entire life.

Gorgeous Justice! More like waiting to see who I am going to get to jump off first to get the treat! They all look a bit stone cold starey in that shot!

colliepaws, your dogs are adorable, I love 2 and 3 the best. Lollipup, did you use the 50mm for these shots, similar to me with shooting the dogs, you either get the nose or the eyes in focus, something to work on, get your camera to focus on the eyes instead of the nose. You house probably isn't really that yellow it just appears that way in camera. Tungsten will definatley change the way they look, or if you are shooting in RAW you can do that in LR. Cute dog by the way! Love Love Love Justices PJ's, They are adorable! I am resisting the urge to ask you for a link to Staffy rescue so I can get some for my guys, Mine have Soooo many clothes they have a better wardrobe than i do! I really want to learn how to do the wall texture thing, You posted a link a while ago about how to do it but I never got around to looking at it. It would be great for the likes of the shots I took today with a bit of stuff in the back ground that I want to get rid of and also it looks totally awesome!! Also love the head tilt!

Whoops, I thought Dash looked like a Birman, they are gorgeous! Yes Bailey is a Birman, the dogs love him and want to play with him but 4 is just to overwhelming for him, he just lays there and they mob him, so he sleeps in a different part of the house and stays away from them. When I only had two they all played together. The dogs don't bother with my older Cat, she put them in their place from day one and they have never bothered with her, she just lays about with them and they are fine with her.

I mainly use LR for editing and basic stuff in PS like removing things. I alwsy used to use unsharpen mask before I had Lightroom but never went back to it after Lightroom. KJA mentioned (can't remember which thread it was now) contract and clarity and I also use sharpness in LR. I edited the curch quite a bit, it had a yellowy hue to it which seemed a bit unnatural. The way it looks in the shot is really the way it seems to look in real life.

Thanks so much for the lovely comments, is your kitty Cosmo a Birman? Or is he a raggy?

We did touch on the basics and it was explained how to use the camera in Manual Mode but there wasn't enough of it, and not enough practical stuff with being able to ask questions etc, although I still learnt a lot more from it than I know before I did the course. I wasn't sure about adding this photo here or in the other thread but It probably applies to both. There is an old catholic Church near us that I have tried to shoot previously without much luck, I stopped there on my way home last night and had another go, This is really exactly what it looks like, exif hand held ISO 1600 f1.8 1/80

Ok will do, I need some new subject material. my next days off I might find something different to shoot!

I was going to post in here earlier but too busy posting elsewhere! I can't wait to watch tonights, I take heaps of shots with my iPhone and it might be interesting to see what they come up with.

Bryan Petterson has a lot of books, they look great!

Thats a good thing yea? or do you mean I'm over thinking the whole thing, I feel like I am.

I did a course a couple of years back and it was kind of helpful although the guy who was the teacher was very basic, which was a little disappointing, I did get a bit out of it but it was only 6 weeks and two hours a week, he talked a lot about older photographers and techniques and touched a bit on photo shop, we did a bit of practical stuff which was helpful but I am similar to what you have mentioned, mail learning by reading and playing. The course I did if I remember rightly was Cert II in visual arts. They have had the Cert IV here at tafe too, Not sure how much it is, I should look into it, I was going to do it after the last one but it didn't suit my work hours so I let it go by the wayside. I think Id rather do a more complex photography course but its hard to work it around work. We work on a rotating roster and while mostly my hours stay the same sometimes they change. Anyway that book sounds good might see if I can get a copy. I just dug out the old folder from the course I did and it was module one "Apply techniques to produce digital images" It was a 40 hour course so clearly more than 2 hours a week for 6 weeks. how soon we forget, it was 4 years ago!

Huga is right Snook you do have a very good way of explaining stuff, did you learn through reading? playing with the camera? a course? other? Your selfless have been great Huga, I absolutely loved Terra Niks selfless too, she was doing one every day, I can't remember what thread then were in or if she is doing them any more, I haven't seen her around for a while, I think she is busy being a doctor now.
-
Snook, thanks thats very clear and I understand that perfectly! Why is it that I don't feel I had this much trouble with my Nikon which I have been using since 2007, admittedly I didn't shoot in manual modes much and probably never used the camera to its full potential. Perhaps the Canon is just a little more complicated and gives so many more options. Can't wait to get my new lens to try out too, Ive tracked it and it is in OZ and in transit, it says the 6th for delivery, I live in hope that it might come tomorrow.
-
That sounds so technical and basically all went over my head. Im getting there. Anyone look at the pics I posted or did they get lost on the first page? Do they look ok?
-
No I haven't done that, I have just been importing to LR. Might pop it on and check it out.
-
Yes that makes perfect sense and once you have auto focused and change it to Manual it won't move. I don't like manual focus because I always second guess myself as to if I have to spot on or not. regardless of what focus type you use, only one 'spot' will be used by the camera to focus, so if shooting multiple dogs you have to think about your setting to get them all in focus. yep ok, I am happy with the ones I took of all 4 today, I think they all look like they are in focus, well to my eye they do.
-
Just looking back at my shots, they look so much better full sized on my mac than they do here. they seem to lose something when you post them.
-
Thats awesome Huga, question why do you change the focus to manual, is that so the focus will stay in the same spot, I guess you could manually focus instead of auto as well. Did you use extend (i think thats what its called) in PS for your wall? Love the negative space in this shot!
-
Thanks so much for all the awesome info, I have a few pics form today, I think the focus is ok, let me know what you guys think. Its doggies again, sorry to be repetitive but its what i shoot the most I just want to get it right! Getting all 4 in focus together has been a challenge, I used the brush in LR on the first two as Bronz was in the sun and he was a bit blown out compared to the others. Will spot focus still work ok if I am shooting all 4 dogs at once? or will it just concentrate the focus on one dog?
-
Its really cut throat isn't it. Fred Miranda? Is that another forum? Ill google! So simply put with the single point focus, say I want to take a shot of the dogs face, toggle the single point to the eyes if that is what I want to focus on?
-
That's not what I mean - are you using spot / single point / point expansion / zone / 19 point AF? I have been experimenting with all of them. I have been having trouble with the 50mm on the dogs, I have discovered if I use zone and toggle it to the top zone the focus will be on the dogs eyes, I had a good go at that today, will post some pics shortly (if they are any good. ) I figured out how to quick toggle between different modes with the button furtherest right under the display window and then the button on the top just left of the shutter, then toggle to the area I need, Geez its complicated you need ten hands and if you need to do it quick its hard. Is there any way you can get all 19 focus points to work all together? I stupidly thought the 19 point AF would all work together if you wanted or needed them too? I just opened that 7D link on POTN and wow, some of them shots just not he first page are amazing! I have only made one thread and only posted in that so far, HERE I find there is so much info and the whole forum is very intimidating to me. So I will read for now and take it from there, I'm such a wussy. I have read a lot of the harsh smart arsed answers and just think some of these people think they are photography Gods, and they probably are but sheesh no need to talk to people like they are second rate citizens! have you been on there a long time? I do love it for all the awesome info and photos people post.
